- When my students enter the class they scan a QR code with their smartphone that I have up on the screen. This takes them to a form that they complete and submit and this gives me a spreadsheet with the names of all the students who attended.
Cheating is easy! My university students quickly figured out that they could copy the QR Code and login from somewhere else during class time and be counted present. Seven students (out of 35) did this on one day. So I have switched to creating a new code every day and only displaying it on our lecture hall screen at the beginning of class.
They can send the google form link to their absent friend very easily :/
I think problem is someone can take a photo of QR code and send to absent student to scan from home.

@@edtechmedic483 One of the students will send the QR code to a group chat of students and anyone absent can log-in from home. Any way to foolproof this? :)
Is there any other alternative way to prevent students to take attendance from home..
Or can u show us to trace from exact location from where they take attendance
What's to stop them from just bookmarking the page and checking in or out whenever they want?
In the form settings, you can limit the number of answers per account to 1.
@@igorromko5795 but if you are tracking them for a long period say a month, you'd then have to create the form every day which is not feasible
@@sli3261 You can use the same form, you just have to click "erase all responses" when you're using it the next time. All answers in the form will be erased, but you'll still find them in the linked spreadsheet. After that, if you select the same spreadsheet as response destination, a second tab will be automatically created and new answers (with the same accounts) recorded.

Could you show the 'change form destination' for clarity around generating a new list for each class?
I am teaching one group of over 200 students for six weeks, so will need the QR code to generate six different responses for each week.
I plan to play around with this process next week.
Could a student not sign in a friend who was not at class?
You'd think that Canvas would have a similar set up coded into attendance. Ah, but I ask too much.
Problem is after not present in school also can take present from home after getting QR code copy...is there any protection methods about this??
If you wish to avoid (or at least limit potential misconduct), you can go to setting, and limit it to one answer only. If you do that, you'll need to create a new form each day.

What can we do if a student pass to other a photo of the code? This could be a problem.
I was wondering if you know how to do something very similar to this. Can different teachers have unique qr codes so that when a student scans the code, they still enter in their name (additionally their personalized student numbers), but the scanning automatically registers what class that student is now in? So that students who like to travel from class to class, they have a time stamp as to when they leave and enter different classrooms.
That is completely doable. It has been 4 years so you probably already figured that out. I can share a how-to video if still needed.
This is very close to what I'm looking for. My difference would be that I want to generate a unique QR code for each student (actually, choir member) and have them scan their QR into my smartphone to register attendance. Could you give me the steps to make that work in Google forms?

One student can scan the QR code and share the link with other students.
Link is open. If they copy the link they can fill it from home

hi this is what exactly what i want to do in my class...can you also show how it will appear in excel sheet for the whole semester, let say, for 4 months instead of having it in daily basis? would that be also possible? thanks for your reply...
Need your help! Want to make a QR code for each family which has an Id # not names for confidentiality. But need to ask how many adults/kids. Also if coming for drop in program or other multiple programs. Can this be done. Scan QR to share # and then check the programs they are attending

Hello pal! Is there a way generating new sheet depending on the day? Like Monday, March 1 (today) then by tomorrow, if the student will enter their data, the response form will automatically make a new sheet depending on the day/date of attendance. Is that possible?
I'm somehow not generating a new spreadsheet for each day of attendance. The setup has changed, so mine does not look like yours in the video to change the "Response destinations". Can you help?

In the spreadsheet, click file then click spreadsheet settings then click on general, you'll set your local time from there.

Is there a way to have different class periods all populate on their own tabs, but still use the same link? I didn't quite understand how the different tabs / change destination worked. I have 125 students that would theoretically be logging in every day, but they all need to be able to use the same link/qr code since it's one website for all 7 of my classes.

In the Google Form, You Click on the response and create a spreadsheet with one click. I have a how-to video posted on my channel if needed.

the problem is, after student scan the QR, automaticaly opens the browser and the link to that form have been exposed. student can viraly spread that URL link to other student, so this methode is obsolute...
You have a couple of options: 1 change the QR code for each class. 2 keep the code and check the class list periodically as a QA measure to see if anyone is cheating the system.

This is very helpful! I plan to try it this semester. One question: I am confused about how to get each day's responses to populate into a new spreadsheet. I am assuming that each day, when you put the QR code up on the screen, you need to go into the form and tell it to record responses on a new page, correct? There's no way to set the form so that it knows, automatically, to place a new day's responses on a different sheet, is there?
hi Eric, I use the same spreadsheet and corresponding QR code for every class. As such, there will be a date and time for every student from day one. Day two will appear on the same sheet below the the first list and date stamped the second day. The alternative is to create a separate Google form and spreadsheet for each day along with a new QR code for every day/class. It’s by no means a perfect automated attendance, but it’s worked very well for me.

How do you automate it so that only students with Google IDs can automatically get logged in once they open the link?
Hi Manny, I’m not sure I understand your question, but the link to the form is only available to the students with whom you share the link via a QR code that you create. You can create a QR code and link that’s unique to each class. I typically create one link per course for the semester and manually check the attendance list periodically to make sure no one is scamming the system.

When did you generate the Google Sheet? Is there a step missing in the video?
It looks like the Google Sheet is just created when the first response comes in. There is a button on the upper right corner of the responses page that also lets you create it, if it doesn't automatically show up in your Google Drive.

Will this form work/highly available when there are 200 ppl loging in the simultaneously?
We utilize Google Forms to collect "Feedback" from a large no. of customers/users. So, I think even more than 200 ppl, the form (via the link) can be opened simultaneously at the same time.
This was exactly what I was looking for, for daily attendance it has a lot of workarounds. Thanks.

Wayne Edwards, I’m not sure I understand your question, but to answer your other question, yes the student scan a QR code that I put on a big screen at the start of each class. Google forms creates a spreadsheet for you so you can see a list of every student who logged in that day. Their entry is date and time stamped so you can also tell who was there and at what time they logged in.
