  • We review the Sony A80K 4K OLED TV, including some comparisons vs the LG C2.
Our test sample was the 65-inch Sony XR-65A84K which is a retailer-specific version. The Sony A84K is essentially the same as the BRAVIA A80K, only with a premium remote control and some other cosmetic differences.
The "Includes Paid Promotion" message in this video refers to the sponsorship by UK electrical retailer Crampton & Moore. If you're thinking about buying a new TV, even if it's not the Sony A80K, please support this channel by considering buying from them. I never realized how important decontouring was to me until I saw how well Sony TVs handle it. They really are the best in the industry at preventing posterization in gradients.

    • @KryssN1
      @KryssN1 Рік тому +5

Philips 706 was awful with posterization in dark scenes and is only little better 807.
Sony, LG, Panasonic and Samsung are way ahead.
Not going to get lured by Amblight ever again.
After trying out S95B QD OLED at my cousins place, owning C2 42 myself and seeing G3, anything else besides G3 and S95B is not bright enough for me.
When compared C2 to G3, the C2 looks washed out, lacking light vibrancy in some scenes when it supposed to be blidnign is just colorful.
Going to get at least S95C or G3 as my main set, 65 or 75 inches this year.

I ignored the noise and got the A80k. I was blown away by how good the TV sounded in the shop. Night and day compared to LG imho. I don't want to spend beaucoup bucks on an extra sound system when my expensive TV already comes bundled with it. I also use the TV primarily in a dark room so whatever brightness nitpicking a lot of people are doing doesn't really matter to me. Sometimes it's necessary to cut out the noise of opinions and focus on your needs. I'm one happy camper.

Just bought Sony A80K 77” and literally amazed by how beautiful the image looks.
I own a Samsung 8K and an LG Oled CX/BX.
Just started gaming with the PS5 on this and everything looks beautiful, Sony also gives you an insane amount of options to tailor the picture how you choose.
From Very colorful and bright to neutral or anywhere in between.
Extremely responsive and the input lag is not noticeable at all, so I would definitely recommend this tv for gamers.
As of this post July 2023, the A80K 77” model has been marked down to $2500-2999 in the states depending on which store you can find it (Costco excellent deal)
I paid $2500 plus tax and was set on buying the Samsung S90C ($3000) but I’m so happy with this Sony there’s no need to upgrade for years.
Tv shows, streaming content and gaming all look spectacular. After you adjust settings and turn all eco mode off the tv gets plenty bright.
Sony really does an amazing job with their processor , also the Costco model I bought comes with a backlit remote that looks superior in quality.

I almost think Sony is using additional processing with the gamma because bumping it up doesn't wash out the image at all like one would expect. Idk tbh the brightness didn't bother me or anyone else I know. It's one of thode sony tvs that was brighter then its measurements may lead you to believe. It's one of those that is bright where it needs to be as he showed next to the c2 it actually looked a bit better. As he showed the a80k would sometimes clip due to its tone mapping meaning it was a bit brighter but would lose detail. All the people in the comments seem to have taken what Vincent said wrong. As he showed next to the c2 it was as bright but just would clip sometimes. As I said it really does get bright where it needs to in highlights. You could clearly see it was brighter then the c2 in many ways. Sony has always chosen brightness Over detail in some bright areas for impact as explained many times by Vincent. But they do have a nice relaxed approach in alot of situations. Doesn't need to be super bright all the time. Let me just say this I liked the a80k as much as my a90j lol. Also think about this the a80k was 78% bt2020 the a90j is only 72%. And yes imo the color was noticeable. The a80k also had good depth. So just saying if you want a good sony TV for a better price go for the a80k you won't regret it! I've got to say the one thing that's improved in 2022 wrgb oled tvs is color volume. yes. gameplay will be smoother whenever the frame rate isn't locked to the cap, which is quite often. also it eliminates screen tearing.
the only downside is that in very dark scenes there might be some vvr flicker. that doesn't always shows its ugly face but when it does it's a bit annoying.

Interesting unintentional motion comparison at 3:30 of the guy bringing the phone down from his face. At full speed the LG exhibits what looks like ghosting on the phone antenna causing a "double-vision effect" where the Sony's motion blur looks much more cinematographically normal. Going frame-by-frame, it's clear that the motion is much nicer on the Sony in this shot.

I think that every review misses to mention the biggest advantage of Sony TVs, you will get for 8 years always the newest software version, the same like the new TVs, on LG you are stuck with the firmware version forever and get just bug fixes. And obviously the apps like Netflix don't make the newest version on old firmwares. (I just changed from 5y old lg oled to new one and all apps looked different), now I consider to bring back my new TV and change it for a Sony as I don't plan to change TV until new ps6 comes out in 6-8 years.

    Thanks for this great review!
I was wondering why the A80K does not even come close to the peak brightness levels of the C2 when the same Evo Ex Panel is used.
I bought the A80K six weeks ago and was really disappointed about the brightness levels.
So I had it calibrated last week to get better performance.
The technician said, that based on the low peak brightness and the after glowing that the panel shows (also shown in this review), it must be the older WBC Panel and definately not the newer EX Panel.
So is there any official information or proof which panel is used in the A80K?
