The rally is mostly about riding, which is the best kind of social distancing you can do. To the first time attendees who are concerned that the experience will not be up to par, I say you can't do everything there is to see and do in one week, so come and do what you can. You won't be disappointed. This will be my 21st Sturgis Rally and I always leave wishing there was more time. Downtown Sturgis is a great experience but it is a tiny piece of what the Rally is. Use your common sense, ride safely, park your bike if you're going to drink, and you will not only be amazed at what is going on, you will be back again and again. Come join the fun!
@David G. you that guy sitting at home watching the news with your mask on in the house scared to death. Lol, yeah I don't like being around paranoid people either, it's better you stay inside until next year when they say it's ok for you to go outside.
Spent this past weekend in Sturgis. It is interesting that every place we went in town was not practicing social distancing or did not seem to have much regard for Covid. Yet they are so worried about the rally. Oh well... The best part of the Rally are not those things the city cancelled. There is so much to stay busy with its still going to be a blast. You probably should stay home. Give us old geezers' a little room during the Rally
That’s a tough one. I really feel for the small business owners, merchants, restaurants, vendors and the like for whom Sturgis is a major part of their income and is what keeps many of those businesses afloat during the off-season. I think the City Council is making the best decision it can under the circumstances. For while most of us who attend the rally are quite literally passing through, this is their community, and their businesses, and their family and friends who would hurt by cancelling the rally. That said, I’m not going this year out of an abundance of caution. My wife and riding buddy is severely immune-compromised and we just don’t feel safe going. While I’m confident we can care for ourselves, you are ultimately dependent upon others behaving responsibly and following the recommended precautions and safeguards. Especially now that the virus, like so much else in America, has sadly become more of a political issue than public health issue. We are really sad to not be going. It was going to be our 25th wedding anniversary trip. For those of you who are going, as always, have a safe ride, a great time, and take care of your health and we’ll-being. We’ll see you all in 2021.
The people that aren't going because they say it won't be the real Sturgis experience, were looking for a excuse not to go anyway. It's going to be a good time like always.
We are going, but wish they where doing the opening ceremonies. My two daughters are going and this will probably be there first rally. We went on a ride today that was for the children at the hospital here in SoCal. They loved it with all the bikes and how traffic was stopped so that we could all go through at the same time revving our engines and waving at the kids standing in the windows. I told them that this was only a drop in the bucket compared to Sturgis.
Not going this year too close of contact. I'm planning a trip to Blue Ridge Parkway the week of Sturgis. Traveling solo and camping. I'm going solo and going to reflect on life. I hope the people that go, please stay safe, wear a mask, wash hands, and use sanitizer. I hope to see you at the 81st Rally.
That truly sounds like a great thing to be doing! I ride solo a lot and truly enjoy the no people experience when riding...especially thru open places like Utah, New Mexico and Arizona deserts! Hard to explain til you experience it! It can give you goose bumps with the experience! I guess sorta spiritual! Safe trip and have a blast!
I was in a group of 18 people from Portland Oregon that we were going to ride to Sturgis but after hearing all the restrictions we all decided NOT to go this year.
I’m going. Made reservations before Covid madness, and plan to keep that reservation. Only planned on hitting a couple of shops for souvenirs and riding most of the time down there anyway.
I went to Sturgis in 81 when Sturgis was half the size that it was in the 2nd time I went in 2006. I enjoyed it 10x more in 1981. I haven't been back since and probably won't be back. This could probably be a better time if only half of the people show up. Bike rallies have turned into vendor conventions.
I've gone the week before and left the second day of the rally, got to see all the hooplaa and even got to pinch a little ass (well received I might add). Was a blast but town activities were just too crowded. Felt like cattle in the yard. Even had to side step a few people piles. 😬
Been going for a very long time. A " scaled down sturgis " will still be an amazing time as always. There have been years that is has just been to crowded so this may actually be just fine. The rides won't be as crowded and the lines wont be as long. I guarantee i will not be complaining.
We’re going regardless of in-town events. Our campsite was paid a year in advance ($1250) and they aren’t offering any refunds. Even if we just go camping and riding, we’re going to have a great time!!
I have been for the past 10 years. I’m canceling this year. I’m not paying full prices for hotels and other things for a modified rally. As they heard since the courts ruled no one owns the rally, it was going to happen with Or without the city. The city did the wise decision and decided to join the rally, that way, maybe they can control what happens.
Thank you for putting out this video sir. I think I will pass on the Rally this year with all the bullshit restrictions. I go to the Rally each year to get away from the nonsense of living in California. It will only make it like California. If I hear “social distance” I go elsewhere. I am sick of the nonsense!
I had booked and paid for my pitch and wristbands for this year, my 1st Sturgis. I was gonna ride from Tampa FL and then after Sturgis ride out west and back to Tampa, about a 10,000 mile round trip, however, Im a Brit and still stuck in the UK so this won't be possible this year so we will have to postpone till next year. Ride and keep safe guys..
I've always enjoyed the privacy of riding and now is certainly no exception. I have ridden the Black Hills several times and there are some great rides there but I NEVER go during the rally time. That being said I hope all goes well for all that do choose to attend. America = choice! Ride easy buddy.
Great stuff, i have never been to Sturgis, or the Black Hills area in general. But maybe the scaled-down event would be a great opportunity for first timers to be there without being overwhelmed. Again not knowing the original experience, this is only a guess.
It will still be overwhelming...it is a beautiful place and there WILL be 1000s and 1000s of motorcycles for sure! The things they are scaling back are only a crumb of the loaf of things to do! You will have FUN! Seriously great riding and events there!
Hi Ryan. we were going to be in Sturgis this year from the UK, but with travel restrictions at the moment and with the restrictions in place i would rather wait till normality comes back, so we can enjoy the whole experience as it should be. so i will enjoy watching it on you tube instead. btw love your vids
I requested my reservations at the Buffalo Chip be pushed to 2021. I had planned to be there for the whole rally. When I go, I don't want a scaled back version.
My crew was going to ride either way, we would have just skipped Sturgis if they canceled it. Were not staying in Sturgis anyway only planning to be there one day.
Last minute decision but going with a group of friends mostly to enjoy the ride there and visit Rushmore. Will use common sense not to concerned in the big picture as we will spend more time on the bikes than hanging with the crowds. Thanks for the update on the rally
Yup. Attending! We come in the first week only so never stay for the bigger event. We camp outside city limits and just enjoy the countryside and sounds of so many bikes. We do enjoy a few trips to downtown to support business and vendors. Will be praying for another safe and sane event and especially for immunity to the virus!
I’ll echo Mike Maxwell’s comment/question: I’ve not been to the rally yet. Would any veterans of the rally like to offer an opinion on what a modified rally might be like for a first-timer?
no telling what the difference will be in town, the riding outside of Sturgis will be good. I have been there 5 times and each year is a bit different. Scenery is still awesome around the region and as long as the weather holds up you will love it! Cheers!
I lived in Deadwood, All the town's are unique. Take a tour on the helicopter or in the caves. Definitely go to the Badlands ( fuel Up leaving Rapid going east) the star's at night are incredibly good. Riding is what makes "Sturgis" the Black Hills Are the rally ( in my opinion) this year make it about "the ride" not so much the rally.👍🇺🇸🤔
Going. It is worth it whether the city of Sturgis was involved with the rally or not. Not concerned about the guidelines don't spend much time in Sturgis anyway, always out seeing the sights and riding the hills. About the ride
I will say that with the hotels making it mandatory to book Saturday to the following Sunday, a room cost is 3 times the price, you have to pay in full at the time of the booking, and there are NO REFUNDS for any reason. Sturgis was going to be full of people no matter what. Might as well set up for it and make it what they want it to be. I’ll be there.
Was coming from UK, entry restrictions in place, no way of knowing if they will be lifted in time , decided to cancel, hope you have a great Rally and sorry I can't be there too
Really wanted to ride to Sturgis this year. This would've been my first Sturgis experience but if it's scaled down/reduced then I'm not sure if I'd get the full experience. Especially considering that you know they're going to charge the full experience price. Guess we'll see what happens!
Riding from San Diego, CA with wife, two of our sons and their girlfriends and another couple. Eleven days, 3700 miles round trip. Can’t wait to see ya on the road in the Black Hills. Ride safe and keep the round side down.
Never been to Sturgis. Probably a Good Thing that its not held in NJ. Our Fuhrer(Governor) would never allow it. Unless it was a BLM March. Then it would be Fully Open.
Disinfecting the sidewalks? Sounds ridiculous. I just rode through Sturgis on a solo trip around the U.S. Sturgis Rally will be a good time! If you go, enjoy!
I've never been there before. So the things that you can't do, does that mean it will suck? Will I be missing all the good stuff, or do those things scaled back not important? Please help!! Im traveling from Canada and will have to quarantine for 14 days once I return, so it's gotta be worth it to go. ( Yes I know border is closed for now!)
I've been and each time I have barely spent any time within the city limits of Sturgis. There is amazing riding all around and so many place to go and things to do! Go see Deadwood... Custer... Mt. Rushmore! Sturgis Rally isn't really about the City of Sturgis at all! Pass through... see the bikes and get out on the road. Enjoy!
No surprise that they are proceeding this way...makes sense. They must have added the modified plan later because that one wasn't presented last week according to meeting minutes. The modifications are probably smart, but really will have little effect for most attendees. #sturgis2020 😎👍🇺🇲
I have been to 26 rally's. You are still going to be shoulder to shoulder at the concerts. Walking main street will still be busy with a lot of people. With what they are cancelling I fill that won't make much of a difference. We have not made up our mind yet if we are going.
I am travelling from abroad. This will be a shadow of what it usually is, so decided to roll my booking over to next year. Buffalo Chip has been very helpful in doing this.
Are they going to reduce vendor fees? A scaled down event cuts into the customer base and sales will suffer. I dnk ehat vendor fees are for Sturgis, but I saw where vendor fees at ABW were up to $10K.
I have an 03 road king with standard factory windshield and it works well - no buffeting - I assume even the newer road kings are similar...but I did just get a removable Reckless fairing for mine and really like it with 5" clear windshield..its uses the same on and off system as the stock windshield except for supplied bushings...if fairings arent an issue for you....its a good choice....if standard is more your thing then check ebay for some...used might be a decent deal.
I live 20 miles from there. I don’t really go because to many people on the roads that don’t know how to ride in the hills anyways. I enjoy riding when there are so many people around anyways
I’m a local the rally is not city event and they don’t own it. People are coming no matter what. They can’t cancel the rally as there are many venues outside the city. All they would be doing is canceling there participation and support.
Ryan I don't think a bunch of bikers together are going to comply with these restriction. The way the city wants to hold the rally requires cooperation from the biker community. I say good luck with that.
I am taking 12 of my good friends and were staying out in leads. This is a vacation for us reagrdless we will be going, if there is less people we can ride more.
I am fascinated by the effects of propaganda on the general public, personally I think the effects of covid have been inflated for political and economic reasons.
I planned on being there 1 week before Sturgis. I'm on a cross country trip and I was going to spend the week riding the Black Hills, so the decision on the rally wasn't a factor for me. Bikers would've came regardless, the town really didn't have a say in the matter. I do think the event will bring smaller numbers.
Unfortunately my group can’t go do to lost vacations & $$$$$ , how ever if anyone is looking for lodging I have 2 camp sites & 2 arm bands for sale on the cheep. Ride save we’ll see y’all next year.
The rally is mostly about riding, which is the best kind of social distancing you can do. I live in SD so im all for it and I hope to make it for a day! Ride on brothers!!
Definitely going. First year and wouldn’t miss it. Riding up from the Southern California desert.
@David G. hopefully you're not going
@David G. you that guy sitting at home watching the news with your mask on in the house scared to death. Lol, yeah I don't like being around paranoid people either, it's better you stay inside until next year when they say it's ok for you to go outside.
Riding from Tehachapi on the 9th via NW.

@Kirby Little I don't need a million people to be there to have a good time.
Glad they went forward with it . Liberty over tyranny; fighting against a virus hyped with false stats.
I'm going anyway to rack up as much mileage as possible soaking up the beautiful scenery on my RGS with buddies.
We are going, but wish they where doing the opening ceremonies. My two daughters are going and this will probably be there first rally. Enjoy!
I’m going. Made reservations before Covid madness, and plan to keep that reservation. Only planned on hitting a couple of shops for souvenirs and riding most of the time down there anyway.
Was planning on attending the 80th. Glad we decided to hold off until next year. Over the whole COVID BS. 👍 great video. Thanks!
TY 👍
Good idea. Although the traffic will be better this SCAMdemic will see to that.
Never been to Sturgis . Not a fan of crowds. This year I may go.😀
Just go a few weeks either side of the rally. You can still see the town and ride the black hills without all the Sturgis crowds.
@@Oshawapilot why not go to get together and socialize.
Simple, hold the event out of the city limits.
We were going no matter if Sturgis gave its blessings or not.
Social distancing is very easy riding the Black Hills.
Thank you Ryan, great information. Blessed be. Peace.
I went to Sturgis in 81 when Sturgis was half the size that it was in the 2nd time I went in 2006. I enjoyed it 10x more in 1981. I haven't been back since and probably won't be back. Why would they cancel a B1 flyover? Is the jet going to be to close? stupid..
They couldn't keep the mask on it.
NOT GOING...THEY HAVE RUINED IT!!!

Ride the Badlands!
I’m planning going. Being respectful and practice social distancing as to be expected. Looking forward to great rides. 🤘⚡️🤘

I agree. I'd like to see ZZ top live.

Just wanted to say I back the badge hope you’re staying safe brotha!

Going! Can’t get out of the rental house, if I wanted to.
Hell yeah we're going!
Finally it is time the rally is held out side of Sturgis this year and all year from now on. Some where it is welcome.
I am absolutely going!! The group arrives Monday and departs Friday. Saddle up.

I've gone for the last 30 years. We bought are campground tickets when we left last year. I'm guessing the attendance we be down but we will be there.
I think I will hold off one more year to be able to experience the real Sturgis.

Tentative due to if my bike will be fixed by then. Still waiting on HD factory to ship parts.
thats good the rally is happening this year. I'm glad they decided to let it happen even with some restrictions.

Canceled my 1st ever trip out this year. Will go to the 81st.
As long as I can ride all the great rides out there and get fuel for me and my bike it'll be worth it!
Riding from San Diego, CA with wife, two of our sons and their girlfriends and another couple.

Really wanted to ride to Sturgis before I turned 30, guess I gotta go when I am 30 now. Don't wanna risk mine and my wife health.

I think the effects of covid have been inflated for political and economic reasons.
I agree with 💯
Still worth going for the riding alone.
Nice well done friend
I planned on being there 1 week before Sturgis. I'm on a cross country trip and I was going to spend the week riding the Black Hills, so the decision on the rally wasn't a factor for me. Bikers would've came regardless, the town really didn't have a say in the matter. I do think the event will bring smaller numbers.
Even if 20,000 people ditched the event you wouldn't notice it.
Going for sure. Covid is deliberately hyped.
Correct👍🇺🇸 the left saw to ruining many events this season.🤔
Hyped, right, even got Traitor Trump scaired and he just cancelled his RNC Convention in Jacksonville Florida. It's still a Pandamnit !!
