I'm not pregnant.. I don't have a baby.. I don't plan to have a baby in the near future.. But what I take away from this video is that I should definitely make a batch (triple batch) of muffins for the freezer for 2am cravings. Thank. You. Rachel.
Re: black out curtains- it's a fine idea, however if they get used to only sleeping in one certain environment (such as a pitch black room with white noise) it can be very difficult to get them to sleep if your environment changes, like staying at your inlaws or going on vacation. Our kid sleeps wherever.
Melatonin is light sensitive, so it'll help your child's sleep schedule and growth to be in pitch black. The reason they "get used to it" is because it's the optimal sleep environment to be able to get adequate sleep in order to grow
I think it might depend on where you live also. For example, I live in Sweden, very similar in climate to Canada. Here in the summer the sun is only down between 2-4 hours a night, so obviously it's gonna be bright when you sleep, so you do want blackout curtains even if you're an adult. During winter it's the exact opposite so you can skip the curtains completely, but then it is important to be outdoors as much as possible when there's any light. The body is very much affected by these yearly changes, so you do have to make adaptations, especially when talking about little ones whose bodies are much more vulnerable to their surroundings. About sound however, my parents are musicians and owned a bar at one point during my childhood, I've been known to fall asleep during jam sessions, parties, even on live subwoofers. So yeah, you will adapt and you don't want your kid to be overly sensitive - but now I get super sleepy when things are loud, and have a really hard time sleeping when it's quiet around me, so there's always a middle ground.
I'm due in 4 months with my first. This video literally couldn't have come at a better time. I'm sitting here with you in one tab and my amazon registry in another tab and just adding things I didn't know existed like a crazy person. Mom. A crazy mom.
I personally always recommend a pump before birth. We had major latch issues and if I hadn't had a pump we definitely would've ended up formula feeding instead of exclusive breastmilk for 16 months. Ideally you won't need it immediately but it can make a huge difference to be prepared with one
Tucker,Fearn and Bentley’s Angel Forever you’re obviously not a mother or have any experience with children lol You’re delusional, no 4 month old should be eating 3 solid meals a day with no breast milk
Have you looked into cloth diapers and cloth wipes?! They're so much more eco friendly, as well as being better for baby's skin! Not to mention hundreds of dollars being saved. 😇
Misty Phillips I'm trying to conceive and started stocking up on cloth nappies (I'm British) but they don't look small enough for newborns, well the ones I've bought so far anyway
My step mom tried them but my sister was 5 pounds 11 ounces so they didn’t fit right in the beginning you already have sooooooo much laundry it is so much laundry
This video has the most perfect timing! I'm 22 weeks with our first child and we are so overwhelmed by all of the baby stuff we'll need to buy. This is so helpful in narrowing our list down :) Thank you!!
💙 First time mom due with a little boy, February 19th! This was really helpful because when it came to registering I was so overwhelmed I wanted to cry. There are so many baby items and its nice to have a small list of what will help, so thank you for sharing!!!!
the absolute best swaddle blankets and blankets that are now a kind of a obsession are Tula blankets and modern burlap muslin blankets. modern burlap makes cribs sheets too and my daughter sleeps way better through the night now.
So happy for these mommy videos! I recommend using a baby nail file instead of clippers. most people end up snipping their baby and they cry because it hurts them so much then you feel like the worst parent in the world! also, I recommend like 5+ changing pad liners and absorb but do not allow moisture through to the next layer. those have been key for us!
I didn't really use my boppy for nursing my first 3 kiddos and just used it for tummy time, I actually even felt uncomfortable using it.. arms worked just fine. Fast forward to 4th baby, an emergency c-section, and I have been super grateful for that boppy! it has helped so much, mainly to keep pressure/kicks etc. away from the incision site. - Even if a mom isn't planning on nursing at all I recommend having one for tummy time or as a little supportive seat for baby.
On the bouncy seat vs swing topic... Graco makes a two in one, and it saved my sanity. My son loved the swing at first, and then started loving the bouncy seat, so I could just removed the bouncer and he was totally happy.
I'm so glad you're doing these videos again. My husband is sooooooo ready for kids and I'm a little freaked out and feel totally unprepared! Really like these videos!
So glad you're uploading to this channel again! I probably watched every video during my pregnancy and now I'm watching this with my 3 week old baby girl asleep on my chest. My current must have is the Baby Bouncer by Graco. She prefers it over her bassinet for bedtime because it cradles her and it folds up so it's easy to take to grandma's and grandpa's.
Thank you for these videos!! I am pregnant with my first baby and I love watching your videos! Your advice really helps me make a decision about what products to purchase.
I remembered when I had my daughter. she was always a night owl until she was about 3 months old. this one time, when she was a newborn, she slept through the night. I kept going up to her every hour to make sure she was breathing lol. Rach, your videos help so many first time mom's. my friend is having a baby girl in March and when I see you post a baby related video. I always share it on her Facebook. you're awesome ❤
I didn't have the hydrasense nasal aspirator with my 2.5 year old and bought it for my 5.5 month old. I don't know why on earth it took me so darn long to invest in it, but it is one of my favorite tools right now! nothing clears the nose like this thing does!
Hey Rachel , this was such an informative video. My daughter is due in February and I'm going to make sure she has these few things covered. Its been a long time since I had a baby and so much has changed. I'm sure you even felt that from one baby to the next. Love watching your videos, for a busy young mom you're always so happy and upbeat.
Even tho I'm not even near being a mother, I really enjoyed these videos!! I absolutely love your attitude towards motherhood!! You make it sound enjoyable even tho it seems to be hard, and you speak about each subject with such a positive note. I love your videos Rachel :)
I love your pregnancy and motherhood videos even though I'm nowhere near ready to have kids. they're just super informative and I think I enjoy them so much because I cant wait to have children of my own. I've been wanting kids since I was ten, much to my mother's horror. at lease when the time finally comes, I'll be more than prepared!
so glad you are uploading these!! I'm due in February with iur first baby! I'm the first child and friend in our circle to have a baby, and I have no idea what to expect or what all I'll need!!! So thank you!!! ❤
I'm welcoming my first little miracle next week! This video was super helpful although I already have everything he needs and then some. I may have went a little overboard! Can't wait to see the rest of the videos coming up!
Not true anymore on the baby monitor. I don't know what kind of night vision voodoo ours does, but that puppy can see in the dark. I agree completely on the Boppy. It definitely helped with positioning, etc. It's also useful to prop baby in, put behind her when she's learning to sit, etc. That and the Pack and Play were probably our most used things after she was born.
Thank you for this video! Im pregnant with my first baby girl, 5 months prego, and this video was extremely helpful! Defenitly followed you, and looking forward for more videos to come!💜
Carole Moores I nanny for a now almost 11 month old. She loves this book And her skip hop play mat that we used when she was younger (lifesaver) and her baby bjorn bouncer :) her parents and I loved having a nice cozy place to set her
thank you for making this video. I met you year ago at the Eaton centre and you met my little girl. well I found out I am 17 weeks pregnant. anything helpsthis baby situation is the same as my daughter situation.
I'm not a mom and don't expect to be anytime soon (I'm still just engaged!) but I absolute LIVE for you mom and baby videos! I find them so insightful for the future and make me so excited to have a family with my amazing fiancé! I live for you videos in general! By far my favourite UA-cam ever!!! Love you, Rachel!!
With the breast pump, check with your local mummy groups because I know the Australian Breastfeeding Assosication at least some councillors have breast pumps they hire out so you can figure out if it's right for you
I would advise differently on the boppy and pump thing !!i would say the boppy is a waste of money because you really will use it for max 2 months (i got the hang of breastfeeding so quickly that the boppy actually bothered me)though the breast pump will save you from when your breasts will be highly engorged from milk(that can actually cause mastitis too) and also it will help you make a milk "bank" of that excess milk for when you will need it(illness, going out without baby etc )!!my baby girl is 5 months I exclusively breastfeed and i still have milk in the refrigerator that i had pumped when she was newborn!(lasts for up to 6 months in a deep freezer)!!!💕
Also i would like to add that i actually think a stroller with a carry cot is essential if your baby is a spring or summer baby !!i went for walks with mine (she was born june 2nd technically summer) since she was 1 week old!!That is so good for both you AND the baby and of course not tiring because a newborn in a carseat is not something that you want to use all the time though the carry cot is actually a little bed so its best for baby's body neck spine etc!!
I have a suggestion for mumma! big water bottles! ones u can drink while lying down are perfect! I got so thirsty during my first two months of nursing I'd get woken up by the thirst (not cool cos newborns don't give u much sleep anyway), and I was so tired I really didn't wanna get out of bed or even to sit up to drink water. I bought a water bottle for kids with straws, so I could actually rehydrate myself without having to get up at all.
I had my baby last December on Christmas morning and I can definitely say this video was spot on! From my experience, I would add a humidifier for baby's room, bottles/milk storage bags compatible with your pump (if you get one) and Shout stain remover for those diaper blowouts! 😂😂
I Just love the way you describe everything and you have an amazing personality, it made me less nervous for when baby comes home with me, i really appreciate the advice, Thanks so much!
Can you please do a video on how you dealt with morning sickness the first 3 months! I am really battling with morning sickness. I have been battling to find information on the first 3 months because no one actually talks about them cause you not supposed to tell anyone that you are pregnant yet
Subscribeddddd! I looked through so many videos & this is THEE only one that was actually simple, to the point, & non-overwhelming. Your personality it also a blessing lol I'm due all the way in Jan 2019 but was also cluttering my mind like "I'm gonna need a high chair, which bath tub should I get, breast pumps are so expensive!" So thank you so much for this 💛
We totally overspent by at least $500 on nursery. We bought a whole set which seemed like we were saving but if you shop at unexpected places, like Burlington Coat Factory, we could have saved buying crib separately.
Rachel, I'd love to see you do a video on how you became so involved with your faith! While not being particularly religious myself, I'm currently studying religions practiced by historic cultures. I'd love to know how you teach your children about God , Catholicism, and how the bible teaches us to be better people! Thanks and love you!
Hi there, did you end up making a post-labor video/ any videos about coming home with baby and what to have set up for when you come home? Love your videos, thanks for all the knowledge!
I’m due first week of Sept and have watched a million of these videos and how come NOBODY mentions freezer meals!!! AND MUFFINS?! Game changer 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Amazing idea!
Excellent! I'm throwing my sister a baby shower this weekend and was looking for a little extra last minute gift, I think I might get the swaddle blankets they match her nursery theme perfectly :) Thanks for sharing these!!
I'm not pregnant.. I don't have a baby.. I don't plan to have a baby in the near future.. But what I take away from this video is that I should definitely make a batch (triple batch) of muffins for the freezer for 2am cravings. Thank. You. Rachel.

Emily Erickson same girl!
Emily Erickson lol im 13 still watching
I'm still in high school but it's just so interesting lok
Emily Erickson same I’m 14 and not pregnant
just found out I'm pregnant this morning!! I'm so happy but also crazy nervous!
Can u post a video with ur baby?

I dont have kids and dont want kids but i find u talking about anything to be entertaining. Like u could talk about paint and i would watch lol

Kristine Jorgensen I bite them like I used to do my own nails. doesn't even wake them up.
I'm 12 and I still found this video entertaining...
Emma Janse I'm 7 and I'm entertained
Hayden Forever what?! how do you know how to operate UA-cam? i could barely figure out how to comment
Emma Janse I'm 9 CRAZY right
I'm due in 7 weeks, God willing. As a first time mom to be this is very helpful. Thank you. Can't wait to see more.
Don't forget those nursing pads for mama! I totally forgot until I woke up and my shirt was soaked :)
Kelli Czarny This is probably a really dumb question, but how do you use nursing pads? Do you just put them in your bra?
Emily Willingham yes, just put them in your bra and change it frequently. Exactly the same as a regular pad, just for your breasts :p
good hack that my aunt used when she was pregnant is that she would put panty liner pads and stick them inside her bra
@@minad3804 wow I'm late watching this video but your comment is really helpful!!!! I'm due next month!!!! Thank you!!!

Hey Rachel , this was such an informative video. My daughter is due in February and I'm going to make sure she has these few things covered. Thank you for coming back to this channel!! We are expecting a little man 💙💙 so your timing is perfect! Xoxo
100% agree on the boppy nursing pillow! I have a 2 month old and it helps so much.
That and the Pack and Play were probably our most used things after she was born.
just found out on Monday that I'm having a little boy!💙 re-watching all these videos
Thank you for this video! Im pregnant with my first baby girl, 5 months prego, and this video was extremely helpful! Defenitly followed you, and looking forward for more videos to come!💜
I'm due in December with my first baby & this video was very helpful! Thank you!
Carole Moores I nanny for a now almost 11 month old. Things that saved us from when she was 2 months to when she was 11 months are:
Diaper rash cream (she had EXTREMELY sensitive skin so we used that a lot) use honest diapers with caution because they gave her really bad rashes
Member's mark baby wipes (we LOOOOVE THese) I use them all the time with her. An all purpose wipe
her fisher price high chair that clips to a chair (super portable and easy to use) and cheap
her sit me up floor seat by fisher price (it allowed her hips to be in a more natural position and was cheaper than a bumbo)
Her Keekaroo changing pad (I wouldn't get a changing table because I don't use one with her very much anymore and stopped using one so much when she started moving at like 6 months)
first 100 words book. She loves this book
And her skip hop play mat that we used when she was younger (lifesaver) and her baby bjorn bouncer :) her parents and I loved having a nice cozy place to set her
I'm 28 weeks at the moment and just found your channel and love it!!!!! love this video!!!!!
I'm pregnant and so grateful for this video!!
Slow down please. You speak supper fast and it is kinda hard to follow you.

Thank you! I am due with my first in February 2017 so this was so nice to hear and to know I am on the right track preparing!
I will have to show this to my friend who is going to have her first kid. Super informative even for a bff looking to get a good baby shower gift.
Giving birth in January - this was helpful. I'm stockpiling goods and needs now while I am still mobile :)
thank you SO much. it's my first baby. My & husband's family are not near to us. in which I am super nervous & clueless of what we will need
So glad you are back! I am due in January with #1 and so excited for all your new videos.

I literally just said out loud "wow I'm so glad she makes videos "
I don't even have children but I just love your videos!
This helped, I'm due August 2017 with a boy
These are for my niece and nephew! 💗💙
These are for you 💤💤❤️❤️ Love you, Rachel!

Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day!
Your personality it also a blessing lol I'm due all the way in Jan 2019 but was also cluttering my mind like "I'm gonna need a high chair, which bath tub should I get, breast pumps are so expensive!" So thank you so much for this 💛
I don't have a baby....only watching for Rachel~
We totally overspent by at least $500 on nursery. We bought a whole set which seemed like we were saving but if you shop at unexpected places, like Burlington Coat Factory, we could have saved buying crib separately.
Rachel, I'd love to see you do a video on how you became so involved with your faith! While not being particularly religious myself, I'm currently studying religions practiced by historic cultures. I'd love to know how you teach your children about God , Catholicism, and how the bible teaches us to be better people! Thanks and love you!
I would love a video on your favorite beauty/skin care products during pregnancy !!!!!!! Love you so much !!!!!!
Having my baby the end of January and definitely can't wait for part two of this lol
Omg finally a mom UA-camr who isn't a snooze 🙌🏻
Hi there, did you end up making a post-labor video/ any videos about coming home with baby and what to have set up for when you come home? Love your videos, thanks for all the knowledge!
I’m due first week of Sept and have watched a million of these videos and how come NOBODY mentions freezer meals!!! AND MUFFINS?! Game changer 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Amazing idea!
I'm due with my first in April and this was SO helpful- thank you!!
Don't know if you make your own baby food, but we're just now starting! You could give tips on making baby food, or make some and test it?
Excellent! I'm throwing my sister a baby shower this weekend and was looking for a little extra last minute gift, I think I might get the swaddle blankets they match her nursery theme perfectly :) Thanks for sharing these!!
I'm gonna be a first time mom also and due early November can't wait so over excited
