    Thank you so much Ashley to share the hole process with the "hospital pot". Now I know much better how to treat them.

      Lena An, yep! I surely will! It’s not really my FAVORITE rooting solution, but the easiest to find for me, but I want to make a video talking about rooting solutions, and it’s on my list to hopefully do next week! 💓

    What kind of water do lithops require? Hard of soft? Thanks

    Should I be checking for roots on my newer ones? I didn't know that. Thanks!

      Terry Klemesrud, here is a video I did talking about when/why you may need to treat lithops differently when they’ve been imported, if you didn’t see that. ua-cam.com/video/JCmUPrpuS8Y/v-deo.html
      So because these guys didn’t have good roots and are supposed to be dry this time of year, I check the roots every few weeks because as soon as the root system is developed enough I will stop watering and let them absorb their old leaves before continuing water. Also I just did another one today where I mention more about why you would want to check your lithops roots, but it’s still uploading so keep an eye out for that.
      As long as there isn’t a problem there is no reason to disturb their roots. But in certain situations it’s very worth checking.

      Nguyen, I don’t have a schedule, I go based on the signs the plant is showing, etc. I repot whenever the clump outgrows their pot, or when their roots need to be checked etc. And as far as watering, it really depends on the medium they are in, and the time of year, how well established they are etc. There is no good way to make a schedule for these plants, as it’s vital to observe these guys and water according to their signs because these guys have no mechanism to stop the absorption of water like most plants do. So if they are in damp soil the will swell and literally burst and die! 😱. So some of my new ones that are in gritty mix like these get a drink (not a full soak, just a bit) every few weeks, others that are better established get a drink every month or two. Really depends on the weather etc. These guys can be quite finicky, and just don’t adapt very well to most schedules! Sorry I can’t give you more exact time lines! 😉

    Liquidamber girl recommend to plant lithops in pumice only, how do you think about it.

    • @phileofarm1
      @phileofarm1  6 років тому +1

      Yes, quite a few of mine are in pure pumice as well. It depends on how old they are, how they've been treated etc. But you will see in my other lithops videos some of the different mediums I use, and I usually explain why I'm choosing that particular medium or mix for the lithops in question. But I use a LOT of pumice, and if they aren't in pure pumice they are always in a mix with a lot of pumice. These guys I'm getting started in the gritty mix, but once their roots are growing well they will be transferred to a mix of almost all pumice with just a tiny amount of peat for acidity. ;-)
