I had the k60 on my gs, I have the motoz gps currently. Motoz is far superior. Way better in the rain.. I’m absolutely sold and happy to order another gps tire... I also mounted them myself in the grass and I can attest that they are a bear 🐻 to mount, but very much worth the effort 👍

Great video, thank you for the in-depth review. Having had the K60 scout and thought that they were great, I have just now switched to the GPS to see what they are like; on a Triumph Explorer 1200. Judging by this review I should be quite happy with the result.

I fitted theTractionator GPS, to my 2013 KLR650, which in Australia are a fantastic deal as they are Thailand made, what a traction and wear revelation over the Dunlop Trailmax, which only lasted 5000kms, I find them surefooted as I commute everyday, in all weathers, I'm at 13000kms now, and still have bags of tread on them, highly recommended.
The Motoz GPS is on of my favorite tires. I works really really well! 50/50 and it is so quiet and smooth on the road. Love it! Thanks for watching! - Kyle

I really appreciate your time and kind courage to do this video and reviews of both these amazing adventure tires, but two questions please which on corners better on wet pavement between Heidenau k60 scout & the Motoz Tractionator GPS And will the Motoz Tractionator GPS in 140/80B-18 (70T) TUBELESS fit a yamaha 1vj tenere 1987 ?
moura meloney The Motoz GPS tire is a much better wet weather tire than the K60. A 130/80-18 would fit your rim size better.. but the 140 should squeeze onto your rim.
I just fitted a set of GPS tyres to my Honda Transalp 650 and I’m really happy with the feel both on and off road.

I do a lot of adventure riding in South African and Namibia and there is always a mix of lots of tar to get to interesting places and wonderful gravel roads and fairly extreme tracks.
I have been using a Motoz Tractionator GPS on my KTM950S for the last 10 000 km.
It’s been durable and the traction on tar has been superb. I have pushed it hard and it has never let me down. On gravel and bad tracks it has been very good. As the tread wore down wheelspin can be easily induced, but in a very controlled way (which can be a lot of fun)
On one trip when the tyre was a bit hard and I was going down a steep decent it locked up easily. I was lazy had not reduced the pressure, something I do regularly now, and this tendency to lockup has reduced hugely.
It has probably got about a 1000km left on it and I am tempted to reverse its direction as we are going to go on a trip where we will be doing some fairly extreme off road tracks. My only reticence is the tar riding characteristics that we might encounter as the trip will entail about 500km of tar - and mountain passes at that. I like pushing it a bit/lot and have become very confident in the GPS’s characteristics with the conventional orientation.
What where your experiences as to the handling differences on tar?
I have pared it with a Metzeler Karoo 3 on the front and for the last 5000km with a Conti TKC 80 on front as we were doing some very loose dirt riding with sections of heavy sand.
The combination worked beautifully for both, the Karoo 3 being far better on tar and the TKC much better on dirt, especially noticeable on front breaking and stability in sand.

Have just changed from the Motoz Tractionatiors to the GPS tire, and paired it with a Mitos E07 front on my Africa Twin, so far its working well, but I do miss the blunt force grunt of the chunky Tractionatiors in the really loose stuff. But on the road the current combination is really good..
Richard Ewer I found the same with the E07, not quiet enough knob for my taste. The MotoZ RallZ or the Adv tires are my favorites personally. Thanks for watching.!

Mostly Offroad is the only way to go. I didn’t really notice a difference on the highway one way or the other… But mostly Offroad definitely hooks up better in the dirt!
Kyle, so if I was going on a long, several week trip with long transport in the beginning, would you recommend turning the direction both front and rear on the Motaz tire before starfting on the off road part? That would be pretty ideal, if it works! Otherwise, your tire videos are brilliant. Keep them coming! I learn a lot!

What about front tires impressions?
The front tire on the K60 scout is LOUD and it is slippery in the rain. The GPS tire is not as loud... and I found it to be adequate in wet weather. Thanks for watching! - Kyle

Have run both, and the Tractionator is way better in the wet on pavement. Off road, they're very similar in terms of grip. And the handling is better as well.

Tim Ash great suggestion. Just yesterday i recorded the specs of every ADV tire, front & rear. I recorded size, weight, tread depth, durometer reading, tread & sidewall construction, load & speed rating, max load, max PSI, directional info if applicable, radial or bias and tire manufacturing location. Stay tuned! 28 sets thus far.
I've had a set of Tractionator GPS on my KTM 1290 SAT with over 14,000 miles and still not to the tread wear bar. The tires were mounted in the 50% street direction and ridden 75% street in the US and about 25% on and off road in Baja California.
I am making plans to ride from Ramona California to La Paz in March of 2021. I will purchase another set and mount them in the 50% off road direction to compare overall millage in both directions.

I have for many years ridden with K60 scout on my Adv bikes, but have never gotten anywhere close to the mileage that other people get. The best I ever got was 15k km on a BMW Dakar 650 (I was just getting into the sport) and 8k km on my BMW F800gs. I have recently had a set of Analas Capra X fitted that I only got just over 3.5k km out of them. They handled really nice both on tar and dirt, but wore out like a pencil eraser. I'm waiting for new the stock of Motoz Rallz to come into South Africa, as I want to try them out now. I've never considered myself to be a hard rider. My typical Adv ride is 70-80% dirt, a bit rocky on the the mountain passes and a typical open gravel road speed of 120km/h and +- 400km per day with luggage. I try not to air down too much, unless I have grip issues, to prevent tyre or rim damage. How do others get the mileage they claim, or is it a bit of a fishing story?
Yes, your Dakar and my KTM 950 have skinnier rims and the tire does not have the center strip... I too wore out the K60 on my KTM 950 in like 1500 miles. It's only the center strip version that gets the crazy mileage!
Have the K60s on my Vstrom...12k on rear....21k on front....haul a lot of gear to Ak...Canada...all over USA....Love them,no failures or flats...just ordered for my GSA

I have a GS 1250 adventure and I live in the UK. I have used 2 sets in the last two years of the MotoZ tractionator. I cannot doubt longevity but I have pictures to show that after 5000 miles (rear one) with having still lots of threat the two rear ones had huge cuts( not off rd used) along the base of the threat. Right position of the tyre for road used only, right pressure and the rest of it. I like the look of it, durability, how is handles but two sets on the row it’s not normal
This is unfortunate to hear. I have seen this from time to time. Typically it’s a load / psi situation or a rim width discrepancy. Motoz has assured me that the “cuts” are superficial and in no way affect the integrity of the tire.
Mine were not that superficial. When I complain first time the gave me a rear set for free but they told me they will not do out again. Now with 5000 ml.and these serious cuts as much as I like the tyre …its not for me. Safe rides

Thanks for the unbiased opinion between the two but there is no mention of the front tyres I’m looking at fitting the gps to my tiger 800 but what are the grip and longevity levels of the front gps hoops
Garry Rhodes well, I wish the front had larger / deeper tread. In my opinion the front is a little less than 50/50... but that’s me. I actually prefer to pair the GPS with a more knobby front and it then is a true 50/50 set-up. I have taken the front GPS tire off my bike at 12k miles and it was only 1/2 worn...

I understand that milage is a HUGE selling point for ADV tires, but 12 miles on a tire is crazy! I'm happy if my tires last half of that. For my a tire needs to preform on wet tarmac... on dry everything sticks! Thank you for this, will stick to the Mitas and Motoz Adventure or Rallz

I've had the mottaz tracks and 8 or GPS tires were 11000 miles now very happy with the performance on the street and the longevity I will take longevity over traction Because I don't try to motocross it I only do dirt fire roads and trails on my 2016 Africa twin

I ran the K-60 on a Vstrom 1000 and got my typical 3000 miles on a rear. I’ve run a bunch of tires and always get 3000 to a rear.
My guess is the K60 you ran did not have the solid center strip. The K60 for my KTM 950 does not not have the sold center strip and I burn it up in like 2k miles. There are K60's and there are K60 Scouts. They are not created equal. Thanks for watching! - Kyle
It actually did have the center strip, I don’t think they make one in the correct size for a Vstrom without it.
Awesome, have you tried the Mitas E07s yet? Added a Honda Transalp to my bike collection, long story, but looking to either fit them or a set of Karoo street as 70/30 tires for commuting and gravel/ off pavement exploration. Idea with the Transalp is to see just how much fun I can have on a budget (a personal experiment/lesson in wisdom I suppose) so wanted to fit Michelin Sirac tyres but they don’t make them in 110/80 r19 sizes for up front. Next thought of only fitting one at the rear but no idea what a good option would be to pair it with for the front.
It has been a long time since I have run the E07... now there is an E07+. Nice work on the Transalp - awesome machine! I have been known to mix fronts and rears... but I do like to run matched tires if possible. That is... unless I dislike one or the other... only then do I look elsewhere. If on a budget, look at the Shinko 705 tires. I feel they worked better than the Karoo Street... Take a look. Thanks for watching!
Kyle Bradshaw Thanks! Was considering them too but was a little unsure after watching your review. If I may make a recommendation, you should have a summary chart somewhere with all the tires you’ve tested and how each scored in the varying terrain/conditions. Should make it easier to pick the best rated tires per attribute required. Your tests are thorough and I value your opinions, though I can imagine the amount of effort (and sometimes bruises) that goes into those reviews.

Has anyone tried cutting parts of the center strip where it is thinnest? I've seen some pictures in reviews and it looks like it would add some bite off road without sacrificing too much on road as its only a little half inch or less. Maybe something to think about when the tire starts to get worn down as I've heard near the end of the life the tread is slicker.
Yes, my K60 from 8k to 12K got more and more slippery. I guess it was due to the fact that there was more and more flat rubber and fewer leading edges? I have seen people cut 1/2 grooves into the cetner strip basically making it a "K60 Rocks" (see the Continental TKC70 Rocks which is a TKC70 with grooves cut into it ;) It works! Might loose 1k to 2k off the 12k mile tire but at that point... who cares? For better traction... heck yeah!
I'm running the Heidenau on my BMW 1150 GS for more than 20.000 km now, and there is still some rubber left.
They work well!
On my 1290SA, I got 10,000 out of my K60 rear and it was worn down to 1mm of the wear indicators. I was pretty happy with that. I just got 9500km out of the Tractionator Adventure rear, which I was really happy with given its far superior performance offroad and in the wet.
K-60 = 23,450 Km on a heavily loaded Africa twin, Edmonton to Tuktauktuk to Panama...
In a few months when there's been time to put miles on them, it'd be interesting to compare to Dunlop Trailmax Mission.

Hi Kyle, you mention those (lol, annoyingly) stiff sidewalls: I just managed to break a Motoz tire (pushed too hard trying to get it over the rim, bent the wire and put a tear in the sidewall in the process) - any tips on how to get them on at home (on 1250GSA rims) (and yes, I used plenty of lubricant, no luck....)

I put 1” blocks on the opposite side of the wheel I am working on to keep the bead in the drop center of the rim.

Did you have a Motoz GPS on the front and if so how did it preform?
The GPS front performs quite well for what looks like a "street tire." If I were to run the GPS in the rear I personally would run it in the "mostly dirt" direction and would then run the matched front tire. If I wanted it to be just a tad more aggressive, i'd run a Dunlop TrailMax Mission tire in the front to give it a tad more off-road traction. Thanks for watching! - Kyle

MotoVlogging with VMan the Tractionator Adventure is my favorite tire in the Motoz line-up. It has taken me everywhere. It’s almost as aggressive as the RallZ, but is quieter and lasts a little longer. The GPS is a great 50/50 tire that did surprise me... but it’s not an Adv or RallZ. @@motovloggingwithvman2188 I ride a small bike (drz400s) I did experience some cracking on my motor mountain hybrid. I mostly ride street and at a bit over 8k miles I noticed some cracks. BUT I believe it to be my fault as several times I was riding on the street with only about 12 psi front and 14 rear (supposed to be 18 and 22) also a bit over 8k miles on those is plenty good. I just put on the motor adventure tire and so far like them.
I'm also considering the adventure. Does it have any major disadvantages on road vs the GPS?
@@__Yannick__ Not really, Only the front wears off in 5-6k miles. Also above 85mph gets a bit wobbly

If you think K60 scout sidewalls are stiff you should really try Mitas E-07 Dakar.. great tire much better than scout

Unfortunately E07 has been discontinued in favor of E07+ so in most common sizes (150/70-17, 130/80, etc) E07 no longer available. E07+ is basically a cheaper better K60 as it doesn't have issues with cold wet performance. Comparing to original works better on gravel marbles and rain groove, worse in mud and doesn't last as long as original.. still should be good for 10k
I'm matching the Motoz GPS with an E-07 front on my Versys x 300. Should get some record breaking mileage on that little sewing machine. Probably facing full off road direction as it's mostly gravel roads and trails that I'm going to ride...but I have to get there.
I’d bet close to 30k miles with that set-up! I’d recommend the Mostly Off Road direction as well... enjoy!

The sidewall of the tire says if mounting on a tube type rim, simply install a tube. Any tubeless tire can be mounted on a tube type wheel with a tube installed. The opposite is not so... Good luck anyway!

Shame, I had selected the Motoz GPS based on reviews for my KTM 1290 Adventure R, however after two attempts using different tyres the tyre shop could not get the Motor GPS tyres to bead or seal to the rear rim, as a result I went with the Heidenau Scout. I guess this is something to factor in especially if you are buying and wanting to fit yourself.
Oh man! That’s horrible! The key to mounting is a blow gun straight into the valve stem w/ core removed. I do my own tire installations, and this method works great. Sorry you had issues. Interestingly the Scout has sidewalks just as stiff… go figure.
I have been thinking about trying the K60 on my Africa Twin, a friend of mine raves about them. I see the Motoz GPS is a strong contender though. I have head about the K60 being a bit sketchy when cold or on wet road though. I heard the K60 has a softer compound that what it did a few years ago so I'm not sure. As far as getting stiff sidewall tires to seat on the rim is not a issue for me though, I owned a transport truck for 20 years and did some of my own tire work with it so I have a blast tank to seat unruly tires, it works great. For a bike tire stick the air hose onto the tire to supply air and hit it with the blast tank with about 80 psi in it and it'll seat. I could get 11R/24.5 semi tires that were squashed flat to set when I hit them with the blast tank with 125psi in it.

Both! I ran them in the 50/50 direction on my BMW R1200GS and on my Africa Twin. When I ran them on my 1190 Adv R I ran them facing "Mostly Off Road" and honestly... I did not notice that much of a difference. That being said, if mounting them up again I would go "mostly off road" just in case I got into some nasty stuff... as on the road they felt so similar.

I think the Dunlop Trail Max Mission tire beats both of them. I got 12,000 miles off the rear and it still had another 2000-3000 miles worth of thread. I got 18,000 off the front and it still had lots of thread left. I don't like the solid center strip because it slips a little on loose gravel.

I really wanted to like the motoz tractionator GPS. However, it simply cannot handle a heavy adventure bike with gear in hot temperatures as my brand new tractionators began cracking at the base of the lugs.

@@manybikes 36 front, 42 rear had less than a 1000 miles on them before I noticed. I told a Motoz rep about my issue at a BMW rally. He acknowledged that this was an issue on hot pavement.
Also, this was my first time buying a bias ply tire. I wasn't too crazy about the reduced top speed and weight carrying capacity to begin with. Nevertheless, I installed Anakee adventure 80/20 tires and haven't had a problem since- both on and offroad.

When running in the mostly off road, will the GPS get the same mileage or would it be reduced?
Thanks for watching Jake. I have found them to get identical mileage and have not found much of a difference on the street. Now... Off-Road there is a noticeable difference! I always recommend "Mostly Off Road" for this tire and I typically recommend a "dirtier" front tire too... like the Adventure or the Dual Venture.
How about the longevity of the GPS when flipped to the “mostly off road” direction? Same or less as the 50/50?
Identical longevity! The only change is how it "feels" on road and how it grips off-road. As for mileage, same same!

I would like to run the Gps on my 2014 tiger 800 with spokes wheels. Seems like the gps is a tubeless tire can i run it on my tiger that requires tubes ??
YES! Any tubeless tire can be used on a tube type rim as long as you add a tube ;) the sidewall actually says that!

What I don't get, if you run the Motoz GPS tire in the "mostly offroad" are you going to have less longevity out of the tire than if you ran it in the 50-50 oriientation?
uawldct NOPE! Same mileage either direction. Run most off road the tire will have more leading edges with which to bite dirt and it will be a “little tougher” ... in theory but not really in real life... and in the 50/50 the edges follow the lean in of the tire making it ride a little smoother. Just saw your video, hmm how do I put this? Ok, I've been riding RTW two up on 2016 Africa Twin. Been through 60 odd country's overs 3 1/2 years and 136,000 klms. First up i've not used the Motoz, however I have used the K60 Scouts. Besides getting huge K's, they have in my opinion no other good attributes. Lets see, they are far and away the noisiest tyres I've ever used. The rear will always wear square. As you noted, because of the continuous centre rubber stip, they are sketchy in the wet and off road. They will nearly always crack, sometimes alarmingly so. I've learnt that they do not tolerate heat, this will exacerbate the cracking. Bear in mind, airing down, will always raise the temp of the tyre. Now the front. It simply does not inspire. Additionally once it is 1/2 worn or there abouts, it exihibits an opposite torque steer charactoristic, that can be felt at the handlebars half way through a corner. Speaking to riders that use these tyres nearly always amazes me that most do not recognise any of these traits. It really demonstrates how disconected most are from both their motorbikes and their tyres. After trialing many combo's of tyres my now go to set is a Mitas E-07 (Dakar if you can get it) on the rear and a Conti TKC80 up front. It's surprisingly capable on the blacktop and gives confidence off road. Shinko 805 on the rear is a good standby. K60's (scouts) when they came out lifted the bar. But there are now far, far better alternatives. Metzler Karoos are also good, but won't give the same distance. They scream for the first few thousand K's, but then settle down to a dull hum. Oh, I'll get nearly as much out of the Mitas as the horrid Hiddenau's, but without any of the drama's. As a bit of an anecdote. Just prior to leaving Australia in Aug 16 on our RTW trip, i bumped into a couple of Germans who'd just arrived in Australia after 3 years overlanding from Germany. of course our conversation got around to tyres and their response to Hiddenaus were and I quote. "Oh we are aware of all the problems with Hiddenau's, that is why we use Mitas E-07's". I should have taken note right there and then and never fitted the the bloody things. Hope this helps.
That’s awesome real world feedback. Yeah, I rode them once (at the same time 2 different bikes) and never again… except for this tore test I did 7 years after my first (long term) experience. The compound has gotten better, but I’m still not a fan.

I was running 30 psi in all of the tires tested throughout the entire test over every terrain.

ZERO. The tire compound does not change, just the angel of the tread blocks. 50/50 rolls smoother into corners and the Mostly Off Road can be like a knobby when cornering on the street. Wear... exactly the same.

Great question. I think the Mission is very comparable to these tires. I should do a 3 way comparison... Great suggestion. Aired down (A LOT) the GPS and even the K60 do better off road than the Mission due to their rugged side lugs as compared to the street style set-up on the missions. Full pressure, the Mission Wins as it does not have the center strip.
@@manybikes Do not want to have to air down tires, have to get back home or back on the road and do not want to have to carry a compressor. What to be able to cross places like Newfoundland and Labrador where it is far between towns and gas stations, so need tires that do not have to be air down, and will last for a good trip.
I had until this week been singing the praises of the MotoZ tractionator GPS . But just at a little over 5k miles my rear tire is splitting, delaminating ? I am running it in the 50/50 rotation and I do more road than trail right now. Probably 70/30
16 GS ADV and a heavy throttle hand but still very disappointed because I’ve ran them all and hands down this is the best all around grip and tread life tire I’ve had on in 48k miles! Did I just get one bad tire and shouldn’t let this bother me? Because looking at these splits gives you a very uneasy feeling in the pit of your stomach!

The GPS tire should be good for 8k to 10k miles without a problem. I got that out of it on my R1200GSA. One of the best tires I ran on that bike. What shop did you purchase the tire from? Motoz is a great tire in all areas . And I agree k60 is not good in rain or sand. I have rode my super tenere in sand dunes fully loaded with the motos gps and they were at street pressure . I get 10,000 out the k60 and 7,500 gps and with the gps I have been known to ride at 125 mph for 100 miles

What are the weight differences?
The GPS front is 10 lbs 1 oz and the rear is 19 lbs 8 oz where as the K60 Scout is 9 lbs 11 oz and the rear is 18 lbs 9 oz. Pretty close...
I'm not sure I would get the GPS - my tractionator rallz lasted me 10k miles on my klr650 on the rear.

For Sure! I initially thought the two tires would "handle similarly" as the tread pattern was so similar. I was very wrong. The GPS tire was noticeably sticker on the street and dug better off road. Now... I was running it in the "Mostly Off Road" direction and that may have been the advantage. However... I recently tested the GPS on an Africa Twin in the 50/50 direction and it still exceeded the performance I had experienced on the K60 on all three of the bikes I had run it... Kyle Bradshaw I’ve had the GPS before in my 1190 in the standard orientation. I love the brand and the tire but I feel the directional changes kind of gimmicky and perhaps in a blind test although that would end in disaster LOL you’d be hard to tell.
Yeah... I am unsure how much of a difference the direction makes a difference. I have run them both directions "mostly off road" on the BMW and 50/50 on the Africa Twin. It worked well both ways... In a "blind test" where the rider could not see the tire... but could still look straight forward... I am curious as to just "how much more" off road capable the mostly off road direction would "feel" to the rider or if he or she would even be able to discern a difference. The real test is too run each tyre in a flat scenario . I have had the motoz run flat due to punctures resulting in the side lugs tearing away to the canvas . Not good. This happened 3 times.....Bad luck I guess . The Motoz side lugs are of a seperate block . This is not connected to the centre. The Heidenau side lugs are connected . This is much stronger and resists tearing away . My last Heidenau ran out to 28000 k. No flats . Good luck. They are both around $ 330 so the choice is based on the flat tyre scenario only . Kev. I have experience on the E07+ Tires. I think the GPS tire is a better all around tire... and the E07+ better than the K60 Scout. All great long distance 50/50 tires.

I have a lot to say about them but they do get overshadowed by the rear tires. I'll do better in the future.
changed my K60 scouts on KTM 990 Adventure, after 19 months and 21 K kilometers. just was afraid to get punctured easily, and believe me i am riding quite naughty. 28 years of riding experience non-stop. Kinda funny when people change after 5 k miles. If you can not handle small slips, change your bike to a smaller one.

You cant compare these type of tyres mounted on different bikes in different dimensions. In my opinion this is a useless comparison.

After 30 years on ADV bikes Heidenau are the worst tyre on the market soild rubber centre skate all over the dirt wet on the tarmac hydro plain over the road very dangerous absolutely rubbish
