Woods work is sooooo dangerous. I lent my Air Force friend my tractor years ago and he was pushing a 30' green pine with the bucket. It wouldn't break and ended up springing over the bucket, across the hood, bent the steering wheel and then trapped him against the seat and the weight on his leg wouldn't let him take his foot off the HST pedal. He has some scars from it, but he could have died...... These videos and stories remind us to be careful.
I do forestry mulching for a living. The most important thing is to have a Lexan door they can be expensive but they are well worth the money. They can still break and they will but not near as often as a glass door. And another thing keep your machine as clean around the engine as possible otherwise the machine will catch fire and you are more than likely lose the machine. The biggest thing is take your time and be as safe as possible. And one more thing keep a fire extinguisher on the machine just in case.
Glad nothing serious happened in your accident, that looks like some good deer hunting land , just need to till an area out in front of the shack and plant a assortment of clover in the spring. My season is basically over up here in Michigan, I was blessed with a 10 pt first week of November for archery and a 5pt during firearm season on the 3rd week of November. Thanks for the video and take care.
Hank.glad you're okay. Check around from anywhere from your dealership to aftermarket , They make a shatter proof door & certain kind of glass for CTL/ Skid steers that are used for Brush Mulching . Mack
You can tell this really affected you. As somebody that has survived near death experiences a few times myself (sea doo explosions, near drowning in flood waters and a few bad car wrecks)I understand how you feel. As a firefighter/EMT I’ve seen many that weren’t near as lucky unfortunately. Thank God you’re here to tell the story Hank! God is great!
That was close Hank !!! No matter how careful you are, you still have to be aware that anything can happen real fast. Thank God you are OK, (apart from your underpants!!!). Take care, love your channel, along with Wiley. Best wishes from good old Great Britain (UK). Keep on Mulching.
Glad you’re okay brother! Scary stuff. I’ve seen this exact thing happen on 4 different skid steers while mulching. Saw a log that size bruise a fellas chest! Almost ran him through! Be careful and to God be the glory that it wasn’t worse!
Hank, glad you are ok. It looks like it could have been much worse. On other channels (Wranglerstar, Upstate brush control, Dirt monkey etc) they ALWAYS stress the importance of safety AND making sure your machine is "set-up" for forestry mulching applications (i.e. having a safety cage around the operators cab) Cody from Wrangler star had the same thing happen to him and he was operating a Track hoe. You NEED to have a safety cage surrounding you so things like what happened to you are minimized to prevent bodily injury. With that said, I love the channel, the content and in the future maybe you could start your vids with a safety briefing and site inspection so folks know what to look for before starting a project with heavy machinery.
Have you thought about putting an expanded metal guard/shield across the front of the timber bars? I'd recommend at least 12 gauge steel or thicker. It might cut down on the vision between the bars a bit, but would enhance your safety greatly.
It happens very fast and your just wanting to get it done. Old farmer cycled his cows so he would have more calves to sell at one time. He went to turn the bulls out and the young bull said "Lets run down there and breed us a cow!". The old bull said " Let's walk down there and breed all those cows!" Tomorrow is better with you in it and the work will be there. Just pace yourself and concentrate. Know when to quit for the day. A lexan door is a must or chain that lift. Glad you got one.
Thanks for the trail and field tour Hank that was cool. deer season I used to try to be quiet all the time until a friend told me he watched some deer following me around on the tractor one day I wasn't even aware of them they're curious animals. any time you run Machinery or especially break ground they will come and check it out. 🇺🇲
We are all human and we all make mistakes, and we learn from that, so all I can say now get better soon and we are thinking of you, take care, all the best from Scotland
Hank you and Gina and the kids have a Happy Thanksgiving take the day off and enjoy the family glad to hear you are alright take care be safe and tell Gina to make sure the life insurance is paid up to date lolbe safe 😉 enjoy
Glad your ok from that log incident, and heck yes on the deer meat 👍🏻. Just harvested a nice 8 point here for the PA gun season opening Day on Saturday
Most of the mulcher units I have seen they have a special door on the skidstir they have extremely heavy bulletproof glass and they have a wire cage over the door opening
Couldn’t find the other video of the skidder motor. But a little trick for priming filters and pumps. Go get a cheap pump up sprayer from Home Depot. Put a fuel line off the pump sprayer hand valve on to your diesel fuel lines. Crack your injectors. Pump the sprayer and watch the magic happen. Just a suggestion.
Glad your safe Hank. But it does raise the question of wether your add-on mulch accessory is more suited to ground work and wether a logging chipper/shredder attachment with a hitch trailer to blow it into would be a better investment just to be on the safe side when you do more of the same further up the line.
Wow, was that an eye opener! I guess that you'll check out the big piles before pushing into them. Gad to see you didn't get hurt. Since today is Thanksgiving I wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.
Howboutcha Hank. Glad you are ok good sir. The Lord was definitely with you. Would it be feasible to weld 1 inch flat steel across that opening on the mulcher head? It would help deflect debris away from the cab. Would be worth looking into. Stay safe out in the woods, and God bless.
A window 🪟 can be replaced but,you CAN'T be replaced..I'm very sure your wife was not too calm about the incident..We all learn new things as we do this and do that, and so stay safe out there..Thank God that you are ok...
Praise the Lord that you're ok, my friend. Wow!! I can only begin to imagine what that was like. I've rolled down a hill on a tractor with no clutch and no brakes before, but I imagine this was way more frightening. Too bad they can't put the lattice work safety cage on that door like they do on the sides, but it would obstruct visibility obviously. Hopefully the skid steer will be back in action soon. Take care and stay safe, Hank! 😎
Howboutcha ! Wylie will look in that bobcat and say " this things making glass!!!" Glad you're ok , that's why everyone was telling you not to run that unless you have s bullet proof / forestry window on that machine , it's the only option if you plan on running a mulching head
I'm glad that you are okay. That being said , you do know that you're supposed to have a shatter proof door on that machine before installing a mulcher head on it right? If you didn't you now know. Mulcher heads are not toys they will kill you Please stop and make sure that bobcat is properly configured for that mulcher attachment before you get seriously hurt. I don't always get a chance to watch all your videos because what you're attempting to do is what I do professionally every day , and yes accidental injury does happen but what I'm watching about this incident just has so many things wrong with it. Word to the wise NEVER push that mulcher head into a pile . Now enough about that , good video with a serious lesson.
I’m sure glad your ok hank. That is so scary. I really enjoy your content reminds me of what I used to do. I miss the time of just you and a piece of equipment. I live in the city and I miss the country. Anyway sorry for blabbing glad your alright minus a sore chin.
@@Hfoutdoorsyt Good Deal. On our wooded area, we have 37 acres of which I recently did a UA-cam Video cutting a trail with our brush cutter. Maybe you needed Wally scouting for you.
Coming from a guy that does forestry mulching for a living. Highly suggest a door designed for mulching. Expensive but the glass replacements will exceed the cost over time.
OLD GUYS RULE i was a safety rep for 25 years ive done hundreds of investigation so i understand how things happen and have done many safety recommendations but im not sure how you could see that one coming, i guess you are right start at the top of the pile and see whats in there. God is watching over us , good video God bless
What bout some expanded metal to fill in the holes on the frame for the push bar so material won’t come through without some effort? I used this for the bumper on my tractor. I know they have cages for the windows but that probably get aggravating looking through them all the time.
Yeah it’s alot easier to bush hog in the fall and winter. Most vegetation has died and it cuts better than it would if it was green. Glad you ok Hank and no serious injuries.
Hank The good Lord was with you today, I think I seen on the Goonzsquad UA-cam channel when they bought their Kubota skid steer and the same kind of attachment the dealership would not sell them that mulcher without the bullet proof door glass. This is why I would guess. But I'm glad you are safe after all is said and done.
Dang Hank! Man I'm glad you're okay. I'll tell you those ditches you were pointing out are man killers also. When they're covered over with grass and bushes you can't see them and if you're not careful you can drive your tractor into one of them. When the tractor drops down in the rut real fast, they can flip that tractor right over on top of you. A captain in the army I knew did just that. He didn't have roll over protection on his tractor. He didn't make it home that day. You've got to stay alert working with machinery like that.
You're one lucky dog. God certainly had an angel looking out for you. That peice of equipment can be very unforgiving. I'd weld on a Dimond see through plate across the bars to hopefully minimize the cab damage for next time. I'd also stud it through the bars with a heavy duty bolt and nut with a cotter pin.

You had a "brush" with serious injuries. Maybe make a cage / grate for cross the door that can be removed to add protection. Stay safe
