There is a CP train that runs from somewhere in Canada to the Port of Albany in Albany, NY that seems to (at times)run with the TankTrain cars, but they're in all white.
Thanks, Eric for another great review! Love the SP paint scheme and the Tank Train scheme is awesome! Your layout has made tremendous progress as well.
Great review Eric! Love the sounds on the engine, always did love the ol "Bloody Nose" paint scheme on SP engines . Tanktrain cars are always cool, I have eight myself.
The original owners of the SD40T-2 were the SP, SSW, and DRGW. DRGW got SP & SSWs share(DRGW bought SP but retained the SP name) and UP got the whole share with the acquisition of the SP/SSW system. Also, on the nose of the unit, They are missing the large red light that SP had. This would be considered an Ex DRGW SD40T-2, thing is, the horn is in the wrong spot for that. If your into details, either your gonna have to reconfigure the light, or just move the horn. Dont ask how I know all this
Great video and review! Lionel was right on the money with the horn audio. It sounds exactly like a Nathan Airchime P3 which is very prototypical as the Southern Pacific was a major user of that particular horn on almost all of their locomotives 📣. The lighting is also very prototypical to the Southern Pacific. Hope to see many more reviews in the near future!
My favorite so far are the Lionel Milwaukee Road S3 4-8-4 Northern #261 and the Lionel Southern Pacific AC-12 Cab Forward. Now I can add the Lionel Southern Pacific TankTrain "Oil Can" Set as the best looking trains on UA-cam. It would probably look totally cool if all 16 "Oil Cans" where running together around the tracks. This takes me back 55 years ago when I got my first train set. Keep up the good work Eric. Can't wait to see what you have instore for us (meaning UA-cam) next time.
James Pittman Thanks. I currently have 14 of the tanktrain cars and they do look cool when run together. I didn't run them for this video because I just wanted to focus on the set, but I've got videos you can watch where I do run all of them.
AWESOME review as always Eric!!!!!!!!!! Yeah the Tank Train cars are SWEET and thankfully Lionel did not use that awful horn they used in the SD40-2! Love the set! Anyways, thanks for the video bud and have a great day!
@@elijahduncan3026, in 1989, there were 2 SD40T-2s for the Southern Pacific, #8278 and #8317. Sadly, #8278 was damaged beyond repair along with 3 other engines from the San Bernardino Train Wreck and scrapped. #8317 and SD45R #7443, on the other hand, had survived the wreck.
Hey Eric, would it be possible to see all of the Tank Train cars on one consist? I think that would be an awesome thing to see, especially in O-Scale. Keep up the good work! -Anthony D.
not to be rude but UP never bought any Tunnel motors that I'm aware of only DRGW and SP bought them but UP acquired them after the UP and SP merger in 96 :)
Hey Eric me and my dad were wondering how to you afford some of these trains. I know it's not my business so if you don't answer fine by me but how do you do it.
Eric I notice when I drive out to California that a lot of the rolling stock on most trains has gang graffiti all over them. Have you ever thought about doing graffiti on your cars ??
Stokjockey Yes. I've thought about it. There have been a few O-Scale cars made with graffiti on them....I know Weaver made a few, but pretty much if you want it you have to do it yourself either with decals or with paint.
Your stats are fucked, you said the SD40T-2 can only pull 2 pounds, and each car weighed 1 pound yet we see the SD40T-2 can clearly pull more than 2 tank cars
Your drive-by shots look AMAZING! And so does the layout. Wow. So cool to see the progress over the last 3 years.

If i ever get a chance i would love to see this layout, really liking the train reviews
Thanks, Eric for another great review! Love the SP paint scheme and the Tank Train scheme is awesome! Your layout has made tremendous progress as well.
Very nice set, I remember it from your open house a while back. Those cars are really nice.
Great review Eric! Love the sounds on the engine, always did love the ol "Bloody Nose" paint scheme on SP engines . Tanktrain cars are always cool, I have eight myself.
UP still carries on the SP Tradition of the Oil Cans, Although the Route has changed..

I know I mean the headlight

Such a beautiful engine set that I wish I had set to put it on

Nice set ,those tank train cars look gteat and the SP paint scheme is awsome .
The rio grande also had Tunnel motors. You should review one,get some cars, and double head the SP Tunnel motor with the Rio grande one in front
Very nice set Eric. Great review. Love Tank Trains.
ES44ACE and the GP38-2 are still with the union Pacific railroad and SD9 is with the Portland and Western railroad
Looks and sounds in incredible
just had one of these roll through here in Simi Valley, California. Looks like that old SP tank train was acquired by Union Pacific.
Sad that they couldn’t get the tunnel motor right… great review and great set though!
I like the trains running faster like in the video. Great video, thanks.
AWESOME review as always Eric!!!!!!!!!! Yeah the Tank Train cars are SWEET and thankfully Lionel did not use that awful horn they used in the SD40-2! Love the set! Anyways, thanks for the video bud and have a great day!
Bill Yates Thanks, Bud.
+ericstrains you always make my day, and as always "ALL ABOARD"

another great video , keep them coming !!!
The horn sounds kind of sick.... Everything else looks really great and sounds really great
Great review Eric!
UP still runs the SP TankTrain in California.

Anthony Dryden Watch episode 47 of Eric's Trains. I run the all of them in that video.
Great review!
not to be rude but UP never bought any Tunnel motors that I'm aware of only DRGW and SP bought them but UP acquired them after the UP and SP merger in 96 :)
6:36 that isnt a head light its a gyralight, in real life they should be flashing constantly but i don't know if lionel added that feature.
"Or GAT'X as I always call 'em"
Hey, I call GATX that way too! ;)
Same, I've always pronounced it "Gate-Ex"
Did u buy the tank train 3 pack add on as well? I sure that would look very impressive behind that locomotive. Great video!
Those tank cars make me wish N scale had them!
love the set Eric. just one question..
what is the purpose of the pickup brawlers thingy.
+Lan Hikari I'm not sure what you mean.
+Eric Siegel i mean the gold things under the wheels of the engine
very cool!
LOVE IT
I assume you are going to be reviewing the big blue set? ;)
Another Great review! Do these tank cars carry liquids or gas? Keep up the good work!
Ricardo Palomo Liquid.
Hey Eric, the SD40T-2 has an oscillating lights on the top, can you turn that on? Nice video, keep up the good work
I know this is Lionel but i wanted to say its a shame that Weaver is closing especially cuz its an american company
Question: when you say the engine has 2 lbs. of pulling power and each car weighs 1 lb., how come it can't only pull 2 cars?
The cars are on wheels, the locomotive can pull 2 pounds of raw freight on the track
Great review Eric! I have a question, what does the cite glass do?
maxrailroad Sight glasses are used to check fluid levels, such as fuel and water. They can also be used to check fluid quality.
is this set available for sale?
Best Diesel sounds in the business ..............
Eric,, can you turn on the gyralight?
Hey Eric me and my dad were wondering how to you afford some of these trains. I know it's not my business so if you don't answer fine by me but how do you do it.
What’s price of this set
can you do a video on the mth south pacific gp-30 please
We don't see those anymore they were scraped except for the 3
you have to tank trains or one

Thats funny, I call GATX like 'Gatex' too
Nitsujy12345 so do I 😄 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
up runs the tank train still I think
remember to say dash2 for the tunnel motor
Does anybody know who makes the ho scale version of those tank tank train cars? I saw one in ho scale at my hobby shop
Athearn Genesis.
this has the same rail sounds as the Lionel dt&i
Great
Does anyone know the Lionel model# or set # for this?
No I dont
Putting it in full RPM makes it look like a Tunnel Motor under HEP. Weird
What the min. Curve on the tank cars
Probably o36 or o42/o48
Could I use it on O-36?
does it work without DCS? or do i need DCS?
Yes, and I believe you can do conventional as well to control
SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER
the horn does not sound very prototypical for SP
It's not, while SP used Nathan P3 air horns, the Lionel recording is a K5H or the like
give me those tracks. i need them.
Southern Pacific engines
