As an England fan I have to give some love to Dan Cole - after the 2019 final, I think most of us were expecting a walkover from the boks. Then Dan Cole steps up and holds off the best scrum in the world for 60 minutes.
And Marler!
I think Cole was slighly better inside the scrum and Marler out of it.
But both of them were miles batter than the replacements that came on against SA.
Have to hold my hands up and say I was wrong, I thought he was finished but wow
As a Springbok fan, I have to agree with you. Excellent performance by Coles and Marler!
Yeah. My heart sank when I saw Cole on the team sheet.
How wrong, I was!@@saoirsedeltufo7436
No offence here but, if he was good for 60 of 80 min. He didn’t do his job. So why say he did great for 75% of the game. That is not good. That is poor. If you run 100% at 75%. You will come last.
The ox segment already got me emotional. Dammit squidge!
Absolutely love the Tadjer pick couldn’t help but smile when seeing him play at the World Cup.
Damn, Ben Tameifuna has always been fun to watch but he really blossomed during the world cup.
Malcolm Marx was still brilliant in what he played this year. Get better soon!
Absolutely, was far and away the best hooker in the Rugby Championship and the RWC warm ups. After his injury right after his brilliant performance vs Scotland, I thought the Boks were cooked. Luckily Bongi hit his best patch of form of his career
@@calitz8207 Marx never disappoints, like, ever. And yeah, the Bokke were lucky Mbonambi rose up to the occasion.......and they were lucky Deon Fourie did too ! ^^"
He played for about 5% of the year, he’s completely irrelevant to this conversation
he totally ignored bongi as well
Yup Malcolm Marx is the best 2 in the world hands down and showed it in the Rugby Championship before his injury.
Thanks for mentioning Angus Bell and Eve Karpani small scraps of hope and pride for us dismal wallaby fans
Hit the notification quicker than Mike Tadjer stole a place in our hearts
Eve Karpani sets a very dangerous precedent for front row forwards, running like a back whilst demolishing scrums. As a prop myself, I could never! An absolute athlete and icon for rugby.
How quick and damn powerful is she!?
Finally someone giving Ox his flowers
He gets plenty of flowers
Personaly I think he gets to much
@@zaksteynyt9181 Yes. He's a one trick pony. Squidgy would be a horrible selector in real life.
@@JaemanEdwards you're not a serious rugby watcher then...
@@mikezog1030 I represented my country in age grade rugby. And I make thousands from sports betting. Mainly rugby, road cycling, track and field, and mixed martial arts. I watch plenty of rugby Zog.
Great to see Matthews in there, been a Glasgow Warriors fan for a while and I've been crying out for oor Johnny to get a shot in a Scotland jersey. Never get tired of wingers getting caught off guard by his wheels and missing tackles.
Don't worry about meeting abstract time constraints, the effort and love you put into this is worth any wait. Love the appreciation for skill, passion, and excitement.
"Springbok rugby is in the blood, not the chromosomes." That gave me goosebumps!!!
Well done lad.
Another great video, thanks. I love the honourable mention for Dan Cole, who rolled back the years to defy the critics who said he should be up the World Cup and competed on equal footing against the best male loose head props in the world for 60 minutes of the World Cup semi final.
Marx had a fantastic year before his injury and Bongi proved a perfect substitute before his cynical injury and Fourie proved the craziest perfect substitute for Bongi in a WC final.
So happy Chile got 2 of the lads mentioned, loved watching them both, but Dittus was one that stole my heart for Chile.
My favourite so far, not because of the choices (all great) but because it's a beautifully produced video and tugs a little at my heart - thanks! Also, if you played international rugby and were'nt in the honorable mentions...
No joke! After ‘Salads don’t win scrums’ at 2:44 . I immediately got served a Dominoes advert!
This is Johnny Mathews' world...
Appreciate the effort squidge
Tuipulotu made the Ireland Wales game last year unwatchable as an Ireland fan. And I mean that as a compliment. She was another level!
Springbok is in the blood and not in the chromosomes
Exactly. Women should not play rugby.
As far as teddy bears go, Ox for me is closest to the pink teddy bear in Breaking Bad.... yes symbolic of Walter White's fall from grace but mostly the trail of destruction left behind.
Love the round up of the best of the rest
Excellent. Glad you put Tadjer in
The best channel on UA-cam & im primarily a football fan
Absolutely gutted that Mauvaka wasn’t chosen he is just so much fun to watch both for club and country he can do anything !
Squidge doesn't really know what he's talking about to be honest. I have Mauvaka in my team.
@@JaemanEdwards he has said countless times that this is not exactly the "best" TOTY in terms of quality. Of course Mike Tadjer is not the best hooker in the world, he's here because of the career he has had, the amazing performance in the RWC and that iconic moment. Same for women players, they're obviously not better than the men, but it's relative to the other women players
@@JaemanEdwards Who repeated ad nauseam prior to the World Cup that they had money on Scotland coming out of the group instead of Ireland? You did
Only a cretin would have made such a bet so your opinions are now worth zilch on here now in my eyes.
Hearing this guy say nche made my day
Tagi and Tameifuna were so fucking impressive last year
Bongi mbonambi was hitting 75+ minutes against Ireland, France and England in the World Cup and making the loss of Malcolm Marx almost forgettable and I think his unfortunate injury in the early moments of the final has made it almost completely unmentioned, the man was THE most important springbok in that squad for the majority of the tournament, just think he’s class
Dude, how didn't you mention Deon Fourie??
Dont mind me, I have to draw this lovely front row now
I was devo when Eva Karpani didn’t make the WR Women’s team of the year so thankfully she’s made the real one
so glad karparni got the nod, shes been so impressive this year
Thought Finlay Bealham deserved a shout for filling Furlongs boots and managing to get into the team of the 6N. Great list though squidgy boi, keep it up ❤
Might as well shout out every front rower playing in a top 5 team then.
@@JaemanEdwards Well I mean, he basically did
Great video man. Think you missed a mention for Deon Fourie though for hooker. He's quite a story as well
Great video, loved the hearing the stats on Karpani. I knew she was a beast but damn!! So impressive.
Someone needs to put Ox Nche in the You don’t win friends with salad song from the Simpsons
Ox. Doing it for the nyakanyaka.
2023 wasn't Uni Antonio's final year playing for France. Apparently Fabien Galthie convinced him to come out of international retirement, so he should still be playing for France this year.
Not a big fan of Cody Taylor, but the nz and crusaders lineouts were fire with his throwing, and the nz scrum was excellent for all but a couple of games, including against Ox, Malherbe, Kitsoff etc. Taylor minimum deserves a mention here
Deon Fourie at 2? Yes it's not his natural position but, to be able to step up, in a world cup final, against the all blacks and play for 72 minutes in one of the toughest positions to play with at least 15 tackles is something extraordinary. He deserves a mention
Hi Squidge just asking, will there be a Squidge Awards 2023 again like previous years?
TADJER!!!!
Front Row! For a minute there I thought two videos must have been demonetised or removed for using naughty footage, but no, you're starting from the top. Phew.
Finally a world cup winner 😂
I love tadjer
Also, the video doesn't include last year's choices at the beginning. Minor oversight?
That had me puzzled too.
Thank YOU!
Ox the beast!
Excellent presentation, but what about Agatha Sochat captaining Bordalais to the French Elite women's championship. Whose absence in France's WXV squad was also surely felt.
Johnny Matthews ❤
Honestly, though he can be a twat sometimes, I think Marler at least deserves an honourable mention. Big ups for Botts and #FeelTheBern making the reserves list though.
No
Where can one find your South Africa Vs New zealand world cup video that was taken down :(
I can't believe both Hannah Botterman and Sarah Bern didn't make the team.
I'd have Eva Karpani from Australia ahead of both. She does shit that they could only dream of.
@@JaemanEdwards England are the best team in the world because of the work that Bern and Botts put in its not coincidence that England's best performances happened when both those players were on the pitch and their worst ones were when they were off it see the ireland game after Botts went off injured
@@IroniChristianIf Eva were English she'd be ahead of both props. I guarantee it. With an English pack she would be near unstoppable. And England may be ranked number one but that's only because New Zealand has half their team playing sevens. Just a little banter. England do have the clear advantage in the forwards but New Zealand with their sevens girls back after the Olympics, will have the clear advantage in the backs. Such an awesome rivalry.
@@JaemanEdwardswhat does Karpani do which Bern can't?
Malcolm Marx?? No mention??
Great vid squidge
Atonio said he wont retire after france pulled him back though
a mention for Tom Stewart breaking the URC try scoring record from hooker
Salads don't win scrums ❤ #Springboks forever
When are we gonna focus of school boy rugby like we do on there leagues
How. Not. Deon. How???
Movaka?
What’s the beef with Beaumont? Out of the loop
Copyright strike on all Squidge's world cup videos so Robbie and Will had to use stills only and it took 10 times longer or more and ruined their plans. Still not resolved as far as I know!!
These are probably the most inarguable picks so far
I thought Tuipolotu had it locked down tbh
@@Wallopy_JoeHell no. Standing out against low level teams is not impressive.
Personally I'd have Dan Sheehan at 2, freak of an athlete
@@noah-vd6bn ah yeah he is better but for an achievement Portugals was special
@@noah-vd6bn Peato Mauvaka. Sheehan is so overrated. Didn't do shit against the All Blacks.
Someone needs to tell Squidge it's Jan 6th 2024
No mention of Marx or Mbonambi? Suspect
Galló?
I love that women play rugby and the last women's World Cup was great to follow, but I admit that I usually don't enjoy watching it because it lacks the level of speed and physicality of the men's game. But, holy shit, Eva Karpani, is so fucking impressive! No argument with her inclusion here.
DAN COLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! greatest lose head in the world and the best tigers player
If it's not the Springbok front row...twice, then your calculations are wrong.
1. Tamaiti Williams NZ
2. Peatoa Mauvaka FRA
3. Eva Karpani AUS (W)
That's my picks and I'm sticking with it.
nobody expected anything better from you mate 😅 so it's all good!
@@aldobonaso3481 What's your picks Cowboy ?
@@JaemanEdwardstamaiti williams has barely even played i dont think hes beating ox based on form
@@subbie5498 I do. He's a super sub like Ox with a far better skillset. Amazing defender and runner and solid in the scrum. Ox is a one trick pony. Tamaiti is 23 and he's coming. I assure you. He played great in beating Ireland with the NZ Maori in 2022 as a 22 year old.
You're right about game time but did Ox get that much game time ? And like I said. It's only my list. But I beleive in it.
@@JaemanEdwards respectfully i disagree ox can run the ball at club level you clearly never seen him play for the cheetahs and the sharks scoring 40 metre tries and he actually passes pretty accurately and smooth props main job is scrummaging and is levels above in that department i do agree with peato mauvaka being the best hooker but not williams i think de groot in a couple years will be top level his a bit better just search him up you'll see
First
I hope they properly inforce the scrum put in for next year... I'm tired of seeing uncontestable scrums which only function to allow teams who have managed to find a set of human draft animals to play as props, to force penalteis.
Scrums are meant to be set plays for minor infractions, to give the other team a bit of an advantage and to create space for more dynamic play... Not to just to reliably be able to convert that into a penalty.
The same intro two vids in a row
Not mentioning Lomax shows that you know absolute fuck all about scrums.
Only English people do 15-9 1-8. Get with the times and do 15-1.
He's Welsh
Shows how overpowered the scrum is if Ox Nche is only known for his scrummaging and nothing else. No second row gets the same rep for their lineouts cos you don't win penalties from dominating the lineout.
Like how is there only 1 bok here? he always just pics players who look good because they are surrounded by bad players. Have these guys face the boks and they all look shit
Please don't mix Rugby and Women's Rugby.
They are both rugby.
I see you have taken the kings shilling again, Turned off as I did last year, men and women cannot be named in the same team
They obviously can. Thankfully you don't make the rules.
Your pick at 2 is pathetic…really…and picking another choker from Ireland at 3 …😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Aussie is at 3?
You seem to be a regular troll on these videos, but I’ll bite just once. He didn’t pick an Irish player at 3. Also; cool joke bro we’ve literally never heard it before. You do realise, it doesn’t bother us one bit. Do me a favour, go look up the history of Irish rugby (spoiler alert, we won Eight ‘5 nations’ games in the entirety of the 90s. Eight wins. In ten years. Including a wooden spoon in 1992 and 1998) We were struggling to win anything when other nations were winning world cups. We aren’t choking, we’re having a great time trying to catch up with those nations who have been setting the standard for years. World number one, series win in NZ, grand slam, 17 game winning streak. France and Nz the only teams to beat us in over 2 years. Yeah, this years WC ending was disappointing, but I think we’re doing alright and at least we don’t expend our energy calling other nations “chokers” without the slightest clue about their history with the sport. Go outside. Touch the grass. Get some fresh air. And look up our actual rugby history. It’s a great journey, I promise you ❤
@@imrugbymad …and that is better??
Yes but also make's your sentence incorrect@@jamesbond8191
Why mix men and woman. They don’t play the same game.
They do though, it’s called rugby.
They do. Jesus acknowledge talent when you see it regardless of gender. How much must your manhood be endangered just by a mixed list of fantastic rugby players?
Why are you getting triggered? It's the least manly thing possible to be offended about this
🥱🥱🥱🥱🤫
I’m confused then. What is this different game you speak of?
i feel about woman rugby like kissing my sister...zero no
Stop being so PC mate. No one cares about womens rugby nor do they care about no name rugby players from Portugal. Just pick the best front row which is composed of mostly Saffa, French and Ireland players and boom there’s your video.
Thought I was watching a serious programme then you went all womens rugby ..Dont mind that you do but in my opinion it sucks ....
🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🤫
Don't know what you're on about... rugby is rugby, and the idea that you look down on athletes on the international stage is kinda mad
