    Someone should alert the dim, rude, invasive and too ignorant
    1. These men are soldiers, serving their country. They deserve respect and deference.
    2. ITS NOT A PETTING ZOO!!!
    I cringe when these noble creatures are obviously distressed by the touches and crowding.

    If I were there I would simply ask the guard, "Sir, may I touch the horse?" and only if I get a verbal yes or a nod would I do so. I'd then respond with "thank you sir." I know that's easy for me to say as a native English speaker, and those who do not speak English fluently or at all may not be able to do that.
    Having said that, if every single person were to ask permission from the guard, I'm sure it would become annoying and tiring for them...

    Just to ask but what actual "guarding" function does this whole exercise perform ? Is it really just there to amuse tourists ? Are our soldiers trained at some cost merely to provide a backdrop for tourists to take their pathetic pointless photographs in front of? I would scrap the whole exercise and put up a notice advising that guards would no longer be there because of tourists irresponsibility and lack of self control.

No need to touch the horse and get in it's face. It is working, and not a pet. One never knows what phsyco could approach and injure the horse. Just my 10 cents worth...

    I have often been to Horse Guards but the worst behaviour I see is the commenters on these pages... Who are you to be the gatekeepers and say that no one should touch the horses? Are they your horses? Do you know better than the Troopers, the COH or others charged with the welfare of the horses?
    The Trooper will determine [and does] the amount of contact they will allow, actually the horse does too! [note the nippy ones]

    • @Jamie_Wulfyr
      @Jamie_Wulfyr 2 місяці тому +4

      This touching the horse business has only been happening since the advent of social media. There was a time people wouldn't dream of doing that. There are certain bean counters in London who are more interested in tourist revenue than the Guards' or horses' wellbeing. The Troopers' guard duty is made more stressful because of this and so are their mounts. We're just expressing our opinion as British citizens that it would be less stressful for the military on the spot and less confusing for the tourists if a clear boundary was set. If everyone knew that they could get their photos but to keep their hands to themselves it would be a whole lot easier on everyone.

      @@Jamie_Wulfyr Rubbish!!
      People have been touching the horses since day one, it's just you never saw it unless you were there. There are far more good intentions and actions than bad at Horse Guards your brain likes to remember seeing people being shouted at or pushed rather than any good interactions. Plenty of Guards have a smile or nod for a tourist or wait a little longer for a photo even moving closer. But this keyboard 'gatekeeping' and demanding all touching must stop is ridiculous from people who have only consumed YT videos showing ten minutes of touching out of the whole 6 hours horses are on duty at Horse Guards in a day.

    • @Jamie_Wulfyr
      @Jamie_Wulfyr Місяць тому +1

      @@traceplus2 Yes,plenty of Troopers have a smile and a nod for respectful,let me repeat that, respectful tourists. The only thing you're right about is that kids used to take the mickey out of them since teens became a thing post WW2. They do indeed move so that a special needs child or toddler can have a special moment. Those aren't the people we're talking about. We're talking about the entitled ones, the ones who think it's a show especially for their personal amusement. The rein grabbers, the guard touchers, the boot pokers and the endless larger groups of people who seem to come to mock. You seem to be thinking I'm advocating shutting everything away. No. Let them come. Let them look. Let them get their photographs. But for God's sake can't you use your eyes and see how crowding the horse with multiple hands is stressful for the horse which in turn makes the Trooper's hour more tense. Every positive you've mentioned is absolutely and completely possible to continue without everyone grabbing and poking at everything.
