EVERY SINGLE thing that you did on the "wrong" side... I do every day!! and my eye shape is similar to yours and I do believe according to your videos we are about the same age and you have taught me so much on this video!! thank you!! I will try these techniques tomorrow!
Not dragging down the transition is something I never learned how to do until this video. Thank you!!! I do have difficulty blending out the V, no idea why!!!
Lisa, this was a GREAT video! You're very gifted in teaching techniques! I'm going to follow this tutorial tomorrow when I apply my eye makeup. I learned so much!
Very good tutorial and great explanations. I'm 62 with puffy hooded eyes and in the process of relearning eye makeup. Mature eyes are such a different beast! lol
Awesome hooded eye tutorial! Thank you ... from someone who has watched SO MANY hooded eye tutorials! This is the one I will have playing next to me as I practice and perfect these tips and techniques!
Thanks for this tutorial, Lisa. It really helps to see the Do and the Don't side by side. I particularly liked the upper liner trick of not going all the way to the corner of the eyelid which I think will be helpful for my slightly down turned eyes.
Great video, Lisa! I have hooded eyes and love to watch do and don't videos periodically just to refresh/reinforce what I know. This was a really good one!
The "right " side not only makes your eye look bigger, but it also looks younger. I don't know if my eyes are considered hooded, but they are deep set so I have many of the same problems as with hooded eyes. I love foiled shadows but I am going to try applying them more softly on my lids after seeing this. It also demonstrates the importance of blending.
I have a moderately hooded eye and this is the first hooded eye video that has really helped me to figure out how to do my makeup without it looking too heavy. Thank you!!
Awesome video Lisa! Loved all the content-but I never realized how the different brushes could effect the look of the shadows...crazy! Thanks for the tips!!
I tried the Do look today, and it turned out so pretty. Thank you! Not dragging the eyeshadow out as much as I usually do, and blending up at the begining of the eye worked very well. Its nice and contained.
This tutorial is the best one I've watched for applying shadow to hooded eyes...you use basic shadows and techniques that don't require a lot of time and special "talent." It's so easy to understand and I think the "do" eye looks beautiful, natural and appropriate for every day. Thank you so much!
I wish I could do my wing liner like you! It was the softest, most perfect wing I’ve ever seen! Having slightly hooded eyes myself, I’ve never been able to master a winged liner & it’s so frustrating! But I never knew to not line entire top of my lid so that def helped a lot! Great tutorial thank you! 😊
I'm a newer subscriber and so glad I found this video. You give the best instructions for a wing liner, and in general. I could never get it right so I gave up and that's after watching so many other videos. I tired it after watching this a few days ago and got it. It looked great. That little tip of not lining your eye all the way to the end was the tip that I was missing. Thank you so much Lisa.
Thank you so much for your generosity to share what u know! I will try the way u apply concealer to lift the eye :) I really love the way you teach, very clear and easy to understand! It makes me confident to try out the teachquies.
This was GREAT! I loved the way you did the eye liner on the bottom of the eye and the great tip about the “baby” wing. I have large eyes and am at an age where I want to play them up even though they aren’t perfect. As one ages I still love my makeup and want to apply it in a compliment way. Thanks for the great demo! When some people do videos they aren’t aware of certain problems. Thanks 👏😍
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I found you a couple of weeks because because of a recommendation by Jessica Braun. I have rediscovered making up my face after watching UA-cam. But until your video, I was SO stumped about doing a winged liner on my very hooded, much older eye. I can't wait to do my makeup tomorrow and give your "baby wing" a try! I look forward to what you will be sharing with us next. Thank you again Lisa!
My apologies Lisa! I found your through Emily Noel. I watch so many videos, I lose track of where I found everyone. Thanks so much for your reply though. I appreciate and really look forward to your future posts. Keep up the amazing work. I love how thoughtful your content is. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you Sherry! You are so sweet! I have a few videos using that palette... they are a little older but if you go to my videos page and use the search feature just type in "tartelette in bloom " and it pulls up 3 videos... or you can use the main UA-cam search bar just make sure to type in Lisa J Makeup too so it pulls up my videos
I would love to see an everyday eye makeup tutorial for those of us who wear glasses with progressive lenses. I really appreciate the simplistic look achieved using the soft palette.
I’m a new subscriber Lisa!! Thank you for your tips, and techniques on hooded eye makeup!! I will definitely be trying setting my eyeliner with eyeshadow!!
Christmas came early in the form of this video!!! Been waiting for this....so informative ... Thank you for making this video...Hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving......xoxo
Loved this video, I learned so much that I can't just list one thing. Thank you Lisa, for making these video's so informative. Love you and your sweet personality!
Haha - I am laughing at myself because I’m pretty sure my eyes look like the “do not do” eye! Thank you!!!! I just subscribed to you tonight. Looking forward to watching your videos.
This is the best video for how to wear eyeshadow for hooded eye. Loved it. I have watched so many videos but you explained it so well. Thank you. Thank you for clarifying about that outer V and how to create it. Now for the first time I am confident of creating a smokey eye . Thank you so much! Loved this video. Keep creating!
Finally I've found someone I can watch who has hooded eyes like me, but also has one that is more hooded! Mine is also my right eye and it drives me CRAZY! My husband says it's not really that noticeable, but I feel like it is because I notice it! Thanks for some of these helpful tips and tricks! 🙂
I have been doing make up for a while now and I absolutely love it but I’ve always struggled with having hooded eyes and as I’m getting older obviously they are becoming more dominant and I just wanted to take a moment and thank you because even though I love putting make up on I have been struggling with this problem especially here lately and now I know exactly what I have been doing wrong so I appreciate you more than you realize because I have been getting so many compliments lately I even thought it was funny because I’ve had people ask me what have I done differently and if I actually had an IV left that how much of a chance it has been for me by watching your videos so thanks again with lots of love and God bless you
I have been drawing my eyebrows down a little when I am applying my brow tint. I will stop doing that and see if that helps my hooded eyes. Also, I am still trying to master the baby wing. I seem to always follow my natural line and then it looks so crazy! Great video!
I promise to try a kitten I with eyeliner. I have very hooded eyes that are downturned with very little real estate to work with. A little eyeliner helps but I need to improve my technique to flick it up. Thanks for all the great tips.
Hi Lisa. Your "don't" eye looks like how we used to do our makeup in the '80's. I loved it! If it was blended better, it would have been gorgeous!! LOL Now I'm 60, and have to do my eyes like your "do" side. I enjoy them both, and am trying to learn from you younger women, how to do my looks now. Thank you for this fun video!
This was a great video! I’ve got horrible hooded saggy skin eyes. Of course I’m 65 and things have really gone south. I did learn so much from your video. Excited to try them out. I do wish I could find a video for mature women with the saggy hooded eyes and full of wrinkles. I’m still going to incorporate tips from this video but with such excess skin I’m not sure how much it will help.
Lisa J I will. Tomorrow (Thursday) I will be doing full makeup. Today I’ve got grand babies.... not a day for anything except eyebrows, mascara, blush and lip gloss 😀😀
Hi Lisa, sorry for commenting on so many videos - I’m binge watching your channel right now, so much good stuff. Love the teaching expertise you bring to YT. I’d love to hear your thoughts on lash extensions. The do’s and don’ts of getting them, what they cost and how often to maintain, the style to ask for for hooded, down turned eyes, etc. Thanks!
Thanks so much Lisa , I have hooded eyes, and I have learned a loooot with this tutorial and I followed the do’s and my eyes as miracle looked way better without a cosmetic surgery on them ! I love it ❣️
Hi gorgeous!! Ahhh I owe you a reply to your email! I am so sorry! Last week I was kind of checked out from the Holidays! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! xoxo
Thank you! However, I do feel like you can use a darker shade in the lid if you then blend it with something lighter up to the crease and even a bit further/above the crease. It looks super nice if you don’t put nothing on your lower lid. 😉 Love your tips! Definitely going to follow these the next time I do my makeup!
This is the best hooded eye tutorial on UA-cam. Something about the way you explained/demonstrated just clicked with me. I tried it out tonight! I’m a new sub referred here by Emily Noel. Also intrigued about your extensions!
Well done! Hooded, 65 year old eyes. You "verified" just about everything I do. Sure have to slap my hand when I reach for the super shiny stuff because I do love it. However, it can really go wrong on the crepe skin of my eyelids. A little at the inner corner or a dab in the center works well now and then. I don't put any highlight under my brow because there is already too much "real estate from there to my lid. lol Just a soft, fairly light matte from the created crease halo (I like that term) to the brow. Also nice to see you using Makeup Geek shadows. They are my favorite, bar none, for shadows and more. Not shillin' for them. Just love their stuff.
Loved this video! I was having problem with eye shadow falling under eye in concealer. Thanks soo much i will add concealer after shadow and brush off any residual before concealer
Thank you for all the tips and tricks in this video. This had the best explanation and view of the proper way to use a darker shadow and create the “V” shape. It also offered a great view of the eyeliner wing, although I still need more practice on that.
Wow, thank you so much! Great information. I definitely will be applying these techniques, especially to not bring the eye shadow down when I go outside the eye. I would do this and it made me look tired. I have the house to myself today so I'm just going to be practicing my eye shadow now. Ha
Hello Lisa, thanks for this video. I do have hooded eyes, so many of these tips will apply to my me. One thing I have learned and started doing is tight lining my upper eye. I used to take a dark eyeliner and basically go across the top and lower lid. Per one of your suggestions, I bought the Laura Mercier brightening powder and started using that over my concealer. I have not been using a light pencil on my water line, so I am going to try that trick to brighten up my eyes, I like the effect it had on yours. I wish I could personally have you do my make up, but second best, I will watch your tutorials. 😉
Hi Cathy! TIghtlining is a great trick for hooded eyes... I can't believe I forgot to mention it in this video ... good tip! Thank you for always watching and commenting ... I appreciate your support more than you know :)
You are such a great teacher, You explain it so so well! I have oily eye lids, slight hooded eye and a mature eyelids. My eyes looked like the do not side and knew it did not look good. I have a full drawer of eye shadows that don't work on my skin as they are to foil, or shinny not good on me. I am going to duplicate what you have done thank you.
I watched this while putting on my makeup and was reminded to let the eyeshadow go more straight out. It made my eyes look better. I Will remember that.. Thank you :-)
My right eye is more hooded too!! I hate it!!! Ok I'm gonna use more mascara. Omg ok I might get extensions!!! That's amazing! I love that palette! You did a great job Lisa!!! It's a constant struggle!!! Loved this!!! Hope you had a great thanksgiving!!! Love you gorgeous!!! Xoxoxo!!!
Thank you for this video. I saw a couple mistakes I made although I didn't look like the "don't side" either. I watch your videos all time and really enjoy.
Lisa, I am going to try this eye tutorial tomorrow. I love the colors you use. Also, I absolutely love your nail polish color!! Do you mind sharing the brand and color? Thanks!! Keep up the great tutorials.
Thanks, I only tight-line my upper lash line with med brown shadow. I have avoid all eye liner since it makes my eyes look so “mean.” Like seriously angry, thunder clouds of Zeus, wait for the lightning bolt mean. But seeing how you started thin mid-lid and did a uplifting baby wing, I think I am going to try it.
Great video! I will try setting my lower lash eyeliner tomorrow. I usually skip it. Also I will try using concealer after shadow b/c even though I try not go go past the angle by the bow it often looks like I did. Thank you! God bless🌸🌸🌸
I know this was done over a year ago but I came across it and I have hooded eye lids and was having a very hard time doing my eye make up so now I will try was you showed and see how it goes. Thank you so much for this video!!!
Awesome tutorial! I learned so much that I want to try! Just beautiful. Now, can you make the video available with the “bad eye mistakes” edited out?🙄 your video will be running tomorrow morning when I’m putting my make up on😘. So much great content explained so well!
Loved this video i cud watch this hooded eye tips thousand times im trying to get it right!! Also i cannot get a winged liner so i was happy to see uts in depth!!! Thanx sooo much! Njoy it alot!!!
Great video! I have hooded eyes too...I've never tried flesh toned eye liner and I think I will try that as I would like my eyes to look more open, rounder! Thanks so much Lisa!
I'm not gonna lie, the "Do" side looks flattering but the "Don't" side, if it was blended more, I mean ofcourse it wasn't done for the purpose of the video, it looks more wide open and much bigger than the "Do" side. It really depends on the eyes hape itself and the makeup artist's technique, because I have done the tight lining on someone that is somewhat hooded like hers; it did made the eyelook heavier and dramatic but it didn't made the eyes look any smaller. The only time I stay away from tight lining the waterline is with anyone with monolids or Asian eyes.
I don't think it looks terrible on her (apart from the unblended crease color and the overdone brow bone highlight), but it's really unforgiving if you have mature or droopy eyes because following your natural eye shape with heavy black liner really emphasizes it. (If I could evangelize one thing for older women, it would be just stop doing thick, black liquid liner on your upper lash line. It really emphasizes everything bad and looks harsh.) I have small mature hooded eyes (all the problems!) and I feel like closing them in like that does me no favors. I tightline on the upper waterline and do a very softened baby wing (I avoid liquid liner because it will bleed into my crepey skin) with a kohl pencil, even less of a wing than she does because my skin really piles up in the wing zone and I don't want to line over it. I only tightline the outer third of my lower lash line. I've always loved a blown out, smokey lower lash line and I will occasionally do that but it just looks weird/bad to take it all the way to the tear duct.
No way. Too much makeup first of all, and while it may still look like her eye is "open" it really just makes her look older. The 'Do' side is much more youthful and natural looking.
EVERY SINGLE thing that you did on the "wrong" side... I do every day!! and my eye shape is similar to yours and I do believe according to your videos we are about the same age and you have taught me so much on this video!! thank you!! I will try these techniques tomorrow!
Aww, yay! I hope they help Adrian!
I have hooded eyes and have trouble applying my eye makeup. You have explained and demonstrated this VERY well, Thanks!
Thank you! :)
Not dragging down the transition is something I never learned how to do until this video. Thank you!!! I do have difficulty blending out the V, no idea why!!!

Thanks for this tutorial, Lisa. It really helps to see the Do and the Don't side by side. I particularly liked the upper liner trick of not going all the way to the corner of the eyelid which I think will be helpful for my slightly down turned eyes.
Thanks Karen! Let me know if you try it and if it helps!
I have watched a few of your videos in the last couple of days and have found them great, especially the hooded eye videos.
Great video, Lisa! I have hooded eyes and love to watch do and don't videos periodically just to refresh/reinforce what I know. This was a really good one!
Thanks Valerie! :)
Oh yes! When in doubt...blend it out! ;) LOl... some advice my makeup artist mentor once told me.
I have a moderately hooded eye and this is the first hooded eye video that has really helped me to figure out how to do my makeup without it looking too heavy. Thank you!!
You are the best make up vlog out there. You are a good teacher and teaching things others do not. So grateful for you, thank you!
Aww, thank you so much Benny! That means a lot!
Awesome video Lisa! Loved all the content-but I never realized how the different brushes could effect the look of the shadows...crazy! Thanks for the tips!!

Wow! This changed everything for me. Used your techniques yesterday and it made a huge improvement! Thank you!!
Yay!!! So happy to hear! Thank you for sharing!

Aww yay!! I love reading comments like this! Thank you for sharing!
This tutorial is the best one I've watched for applying shadow to hooded eyes...you use basic shadows and techniques that don't require a lot of time and special "talent." It's so easy to understand and I think the "do" eye looks beautiful, natural and appropriate for every day. Thank you so much!
Yay! Thank you so much Darla!
I wish I could do my wing liner like you! It was the softest, most perfect wing I’ve ever seen!
Lisa J Thank you. I didn't think to search first. I found all of them. Now off to ulta for that inner rim eyeliner.

Yay! Thanks Brenda!
Great tutorial! Subbed! I learned less is more and a crease doesn't need to be crazy to have a positive impact!👍😊
Thank you Chandra! xoxo
This video was so helpful! I learned so much about how to do the crease shadow. Thank you 💕
So glad to hear it! Thanks Pamela!
This was great I have a bad hooded right eye and I'm definitely going to use these tricks especially the concealer I always apply it before my shadow😳

Thank you so much for stopping by!
I too have hooded eye Will practice this again. I will certainly need different shades for my darker tone. GORGEOUS!💕
Thank you!
Hi Lisa! Great video I learned so much!!!
Wow, thank you so much! Great information. I definitely will be applying these techniques, especially to not bring the eye shadow down when I go outside the eye. I would do this and it made me look tired. I have the house to myself today so I'm just going to be practicing my eye shadow now. Ha
Thanks Michelle! I hope these tips helped!
Thank you. I learned so much. I stayed away from shimmer shadow and I never knew how to do my crease.
I am so glad it was helpful! Thanks Susan!
Thank you thank you! I have been searching for a video going in detail about how to apply eyeshadow and exactly where to apply!!! Bless you;)))))
Awww, thanks Brandi! So glad it was helpful!
Lisa J You are welcome, I’m a big fan of your channel!
This video has helped me so MUCH. Thank you.
Thank you!! I am so happy to hear this was helpful. :)
I watched this while putting on my makeup and was reminded to let the eyeshadow go more straight out. It made my eyes look better. I Will remember that.. Thank you :-)
Aww, yay! I am so glad this was helpful

I love your videos. I learn a lot with you. Thank you 😊
Aww, thank you Leine! This made my day!
LOl! OMG I love this comment... so funny! Thunder Clouds from Zeus! :)
I wish you could do my makeup! Love this. Thanks again for excellent tips.
Awww thanks! xoxo
Thank you! Great demo. I learned a few new things to improve my application.
Thanks Michelle!
Hi Lisa, this was very helpful and full of great tips and tricks. Thank you, Cathy
Thank you Cathy!
Great video! I will try setting my lower lash eyeliner tomorrow. I usually skip it. Also I will try using concealer after shadow b/c even though I try not go go past the angle by the bow it often looks like I did.
Thank you!
God bless🌸🌸🌸
Thanks Deena! Let me know if any of these tips help. I hope they do!
I'm really glad I stop and watch your video. It taught me a lot. What colors are best for blue eyes to make a smokey eye? Thank you .
I know this was done over a year ago but I came across it and I have hooded eye lids and was having a very hard time doing my eye make up so now I will try was you showed and see how it goes. Thank you so much for this video!!!
Thanks Wendy! Let me know how it goes!
Awesome tutorial! I learned so much that I want to try! Just beautiful. Now, can you make the video available with the “bad eye mistakes” edited out?🙄 your video will be running tomorrow morning when I’m putting my make up on😘. So much great content explained so well!

So glad you loved it! Thank you so much!
Great video! I have hooded eyes too...I've never tried flesh toned eye liner and I think I will try that as I would like my eyes to look more open, rounder! Thanks so much Lisa!
Hi Linda! Let me know if you do and what you think :) The trick is to find one not too white or stark... find something with some peach in it.
I think the dont side looks good too and more open. If she would’ve just took the edge down a bit it would have been perfect
No way. Too much makeup first of all, and while it may still look like her eye is "open" it really just makes her look older. The 'Do' side is much more youthful and natural looking.
just subbed. loved this explanation. you took your time and explained in detail. helps when the instructor actually has hooded eyes lol. thank you
Thank you! I 'm so glad this was helpful.
Lisa J welcome!
