The Woodland Realm was a kingdom of Silvan Elves located deep in Mirkwood, the great forest of Rhovanion, beginning in the Second Age. Following the War of the Last Alliance, Thranduil of the Sindar ruled over the Silvan Elves. Those of the Woodland Realm were known to be less wise and more dangerous than other Elves, but by the late Third Age were the only remaining Elven realm with a king.

Great episode. I especially love the settlement rule you’re playing by. I still think you should destroy all evil/orc themed buildings and replace them with your own elvish themed buildings after taking a settlement. This “cleanse of Mirkwood” rule would force you to concentrate on recruiting/funneling your troops from your core settlements and really raise the stakes in this campaign. I’ve been a long time viewer of your DAC campaigns and, although making it even more difficult, if anyone could do it then it would definitely be you. Regardless, great episode and looking forward to the next one.

While I fully agree in your house rules like not taking settlements in non-woodland areas, not selling map info, etc., I disagree with not selling settlements you won't be keeping. You're risking your forces and pulling them out of position to secure an economic/recruitment engine for your allies. Yes: you'll benefit by securing a friendly border, but it is neither abusing the game's mechanics nor unreasonable to ask for some fair compensation. Just my two cents and I'm excited to see where this playthrough goes 🤟

You can have the settlement rule until the union. After that maybe you can remove the rule. Lore wise you can say the woodland realm didn't have necessary resources and can only operate around the forest but after the union gladriels wisdom allowed you to venture far outside your capacity. Something like that maybe

Hey Ligizd :-) please hire more spies, and leave the in the settlements your culture will be growing very quickly without building the Art Gallery.

I would say you should be able to sell regions, but maybe not for very much, something like 10x the troops lost taking the region, for example if you lost 50 troops you could sell the settlement for a maximum of 500 gold

Yeah, Dol Guldur will attack Thranduil's Halls, the borders do touch each others with corners and they will prioritise it if it's left undefended, lost it once in my campaign when I had only a general there.

Another Great vid when you make union with Lothlorien are you allowed the border regions of them aswell ? Because that is a lot of territory.

    • @wildrift1vs975
      @wildrift1vs975 6 місяців тому

You get all their territory as well as some of their strong units but once you do the Union it’s easy game after that as you can easily get to moria if the goblins control it and get the cash flowing.

I really like the idea of keeping yourself in or next to the woods only. I do think it would be fair for you to sell the settlements to other good factions. Not like try and get max cash out of each one, but I'd say the dwarves should and would be willing to give you a grand or two if you liberate one of their old holds for them.

Hello, my friend. This episode shows that you chose to kill Gundabad before running on Dol Guldur. I can say that in general I agree, because the Snorcs are very good fighters and with Dwarven armours - as they scavenge them - they can become a real pain in the ass... Of course, Orthordir and Legolas need more units, so if you can acces them, even better. In this situation, what I would do is to get back the spear unit from Eryn Dholen to Thranduil's Hall and replace them with an archer unit, as the Militia Garrison building provides two melee units, which are more useful than spears against Dol Guldur at this point. This spear unit can be retrained and the other units from Thranduil's Halls can either go to Legolas or stay in the fort as reserve for the northern front. I also believe that Eryn Dholen and Taur Philin should concentrate on military buildings, as those are your frontiers and you need to recruit and retrain a lot in this stage, so the starting military buildings are a must for them, as well as the militia garrisons. Thranduil can stay loyal to his words in defending the south, but he has sent his son to deal with Gundabad, before they turn on to Dol Guldur, after clearing a front. Your economy will progress slowly, but surely, as you have done the proper investments.
And now, let's give another episode to our story:
Thranduil stayed in the fort on the Old Forest Road, watching the passings of the few merchants that dared to enter in that region. He was quite sure that his fortress in Eryn Dholen could provide a very good defense of his realm northern, as the Dalesmen and the Dwarfs entered in the clash with Gundabad.
"It seems that Gundabad has recovered from its defeat in the Battle of the Five Armies", a councellor said. "They seem to gather forces around us. Wrakyaburg has already fallen, we learn, and a force attacks our fort in the northwest".
"I am aware of this", Thranduil said. "But I'm not afraid, as the Snorcs seem to probe our defenses".
"The situation will grow more grim as the time passes".
"I also have the same opinion", Thranduil said. "We'd better start to build up our military infrastructure".
"I'll give our special orders to the Administrator, if the King agrees", the councellor said.
Thranduil simply nodded affirmatively, as the rest of the council got down to the specific details.
Legolas and Orthordir, on the other side, were very successful, as the battle in Withibord was very smooth, because in both situations the archers did most of the job. In the end, the very few that reached the front lines fell to the spears of the Elvenking Guard, the bodyguard of Orthordir himself. As a veteran of the horrors of the Last Alliance, even the Trolls of the garrison in Withibord, who had smacked an earlier army of Gundabad, could not stand.
"It was a good battle", Orthordir said to Legolas that night. "Your father trained you very well".
    Legolas didn't answer.
"Now, we have a bigger duty", Orthordir said. "We are close to the lands that your mother fought".
"Really?", Legolas said. "Father rarely speaks about this event. You know the story?".
"I know some of the details", Orthordir said. "But I feel that in Wrakyaburg you'll meet someone who knows more".
"Why don't you tell me?", Legolas asked. "Is it one of the orders of my father?".
"No", Orthordir said. "But of him".
"Does my father know?", Legolas asked again.
"Not all the details", Orthordir said. "Neither do I know all of them, that's why neither I nor the King can tell you anything. But he knows. And he made me vow not to tell you anything more, except for he will himself. And he also prefers to introduce in person".
"I see", Legolas said with a sign of disbelief. "I believe you this time. Let's hope that this person will be fair to his word".
"When you'll meet him", Orthordir said, "you will understand more".

I believe i heard that the Hin-E-Daur have piercing shots (the silver arrow streaks) so the reason they have a gazillion kills every battle is because they kill multiple targets per shot.

Burh Alge borders Thranduil Halls, Guldur likes to attack Thranduils halls from there. But you need garrison there anyway, because free upkeep of seven or 8 units and pre union attack.

    • @jhlasek
      @jhlasek 6 місяців тому

And I try to stay from Wrakyaburg and Withibord in early campaign, because there is no free upkeep and no walls. And because you have to keep units there, it is net loss in income. I wish you best luck with dwarrves, they are usualy unable to push to Dains halls without help.

You should maybe raise taxes in Thranduils halls for more money, as the settlement is already city, it will boost you economy a bit, specially in early game.

Perhaps Thranduil could make an expedition to Dain's Halls and Legolas towards Onazanar to weaken the snow orcs greatly. I think you could let them develop Wrakyaburg. Maybe let them take out some vale settlements so that you can claim those as your own!

Ok so playing the Elves with an Elven attitude, especially with Thanduril I think would be funny and interesting however as an Elf if you have to seed a settlement to another faction , it cant be seeded to Dwarves. Simples

while I do enjoy your relaxing series, it really is a shame that the ai just does not defend their settlements at all (except standing afk in the down square). Takes away A LOT of immersion, sense of dread being completely absent. Combine with the fort/upkeep/income situation really dampens the greatness of this mod.
