I don't think it's a lost art by any means, indeed there are a glut of great single-player games. For plenty of people who haven't been playing since launch, the PvE offers a perfectly reasonable challenge, and the PvE servers are a good way to get familiar with and master the game mechanics through the PvE and then, if they want, dip their toes in PvP. Hell, I have a friend whose first experience (pre-safer seas) was soured by some toxic sweats within his first hour of play, who I am bringing back to the game through crew play on safer seas to go do some of the things that made me love the game. And I think that if Rare could make an incentive program for a mentor/mentee matchmaking system like that for safer seas somehow (maybe take people vetted from the insider community?) it would make for a great extended tutorial and way to make players invested enough to want to PvP. It took me hundreds of hours to get to the point that trying PvP was a thing I even wanted to do, and I'm still not the best at it, but I can hold my own in a lot of situations. I realize that "we" didn't have this, but it was a fundamentally different game then. There is a much larger skill gap now than could have ever existed. The top tier of PvP sweats have 6 years of a head start over the newest batch of Swabbies in developing all of the skills needed to thrive in the sea of thieves. A sandbox where they can do things like circle an island to practice cannon shots is a useful tool to them. Sea of Thieves has the big problem that it can't be what it wants to be all at once. It wants to be open and inclusive, but also wants to let people do what they want. But if you let *anyone* do *anything* they want with no consequences, the result is a toxic culture that creates a destructive feedback loop where the toxic players only get more toxic and more dominant in the game, and the people who are repulsed by that toxicity leave (and I'm not calling all PvP toxic, but it does tend to attract the more toxic people in most communities, because for those people it isn't fun to trash talk a computer, it is only fun if another human being has their day ruined VIA their actions.) The only thing that keeps me coming back to High Seas is that I can't use my Captained Ship on Safer Seas. As someone once commented before... I'd trade you all for NPCs.
My complaints are it sucks we can't use Captained/Guild Ships (literally no-one cares about other players' ship milestones or guild distinctions) and the nerf to Gold and Rep is too extreme as Gold and Rep are worthless anyway and while I appreciate the nerf is to encourage High Sea play it also make Safer Seas pointless for the players who intended to make the primary way to play or just have time away from the community's toxicity. Imagine being a disabled player who bought SoT because they added Safer Seas so they can play without getting mercilessly ganked by PvP players only to be told "lol, you only get 30% gold and rep is capped. Suffer like the rest."
I get your point about disabled people, but your point about gold being meaningless is just wrong (when the person with the cosmetics that cost a shitload actually played the game instead of going to world events as reapers and proceeding to run across the map 5 times), the gold reward is cut because it would make things like the D.A. set meaningless.
@@twistfire77 Mate, the DA set IS meaningless anyway. It tells other players 2 things: - They have waaaaay too much free time. - They're an edgy sweatlord. I agree that it needs to be cut, just not as much as it is. @@twistfire77 No. I told you it was meaningless and explained why it is. Unless you find meaning in advertising your over abundance of free time and sweaty edgyness in which case, dude, have more self respect.
This video aged like already expired milk. Because now that it’s live, there’s a *SO* much limitations than there is freedom. Only good things is Tall Tales and no players looking to sink your ship, basic voyages, little commendations to be earned while 80 or 90% has to be earned in High Seas, level cap to the 3 basic companies is capped at 40 and to be Pirate Legend, you gotta be 50 even though the main goal of the game during launch was to become Pirate Legend to do those Pirate Legend voyages. Sea Forts and the new Skeleton ships. And when you don’t wanna do any of that and just chill. You can either sail around and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the game and fish. No Reaper Faction. No Fort Of The Damned, no Siren Songs even though those two events are mainly PvE events. Siren Song only becomes PvP if other players are also doing the event. Skeleton Forts also becomes PvP if you’re at one and another player is going towards it and they see your shipped already docked at the small fort. The rewards is cut to 30% but I don’t care about that. I don’t care about Reaper faction and I don’t care about the new Burning Blade ship.
You when the servers get shut down because all the PVPers left the game. "MY POWER FANTASY!! I WAS SUPPOSED TO EXPLOIT THE GAME WHERE DID YOU ALL GO??"
@SanctumOfDreams You know other people can tell when you're being emotional rather than logical, because what you just said makes absolutely no sense for PVE players. Tbf it’s actually been a lot better with losers like you gone. Everyone wants to fight now and the game functions more as it was originally designed to. It’s a win for both camps. Interactions on the seas are not only more competitive on average but also less toxic. Loot stacking is more common due to most of the pve players left being at least intermmediate in skill which leads to better steals. It’s healthy for both sides of the gameplay loop to let swabbies like yourself learn and thrive in their own closed environment. All you were gonna do anyways is waste an hour of both our time just to sink and donate your loot anyways. Especially with the Red Sea changes that make catching you basically inevitable with some determination. Trust me we’d all prefer you don’t return to the highs seas lmao.

@@scubasteve2189 Your hypothetical argument is a vast, vast misrepresentation of how the PvP system in Sea Of Thieves works. Safer Seas was introduced to the game to serve as an extended tutorial for players to get to understand the game's mechanics and get an idea of how to handle naval and hand-to-hand combat. High Seas is, always was and always will be the main game mode as the game is intended to be played. You're supposed to lose sometimes, there is no fun in always coming out on top with ease. If you want to continue playing Safer Seas indefinitely, I don't have a problem with that personally. If you're going to be all smug about it and label all High Seas players as toxic griefers looking to get their power fantasy off, yeah I'm going to have something to say about that. If you're going to play High Seas knowingly getting in the lobby with other players who can come and sink you at any given time and then proceed to whine about it, yeah I'm going to have something to say about that. Choosing to keep eating at the kiddie table by staying in safer seas is limiting yourself to only the basics of the game simply because you're afraid of losing. Being apprehensive about playing with genuinely toxic players is understandable but that's a different topic and there are ways to protect yourself from that. SOT PvP is some of the most exciting and engaging gameplay I have had the pleasure of partaking in and every fight is a new unique experience, you are doing yourself a disservice by denying yourself that. Yes it will take time before you have enough experience to start consistently doing well in combat and yes you're going to run into toxic players, but the pros far outweigh the cons. I reject your hypothetical argument entirely because it does not align with the topic at hand in the slightest and strikes me as purposefully misrepresenting the facts to get your point across.
Ive always said that sea of theives should have been a completely solo game right from the start and i was sad to see it was ALL! Online some people just want to go solo without the toxic sespool of getting killed 5000 times because apparently THATS FUUUUN!!!!!
The only reason to mutilate the safe seas experience so much is because you know if its 1:1 and the only difference is other players doing PvP, a vast majority of people are gonna be going safer seas. I don't see the point in capping so much, rewards are literally all cosmetics.
Speaking as someone who is bad at pvp.... Just get over it. Sometimes you sink and lose a couple boxes. The fact that anyone can roll up on you at any moment it what makes sea of thieves fun.
People play Sea of Thieves differently and some of those players who got upset about Safer Seas being added by the fact that they now have to fight properly against other PVP players. I enjoy Safer Seas because High Seas is not for me. I've attempted to get better at PVP, however I just simply like PVE way more. Also some people like High Seas and some people like Safer Seas that's just how it is. We have no choice but to accept it whether we like it or not. So... Yeah, deal with it.
This truly explains the problem with safer seas, especially for people who aren't that good at the game. Safer seas allows them to play the game without getting decked by other players who are better than them but there's nothing to do as all the good stuff isn't allowed on safer seas
As a PVP player I love safer seas coz now I know every ship I see on the seas is fair game. I don't know what you're doing, but if you're here now it's YARR PROBLEM!
High Seas is only worth it during special gold earn events like the one currently with guilded voyages or trying to reach level 50 with the factions to get Pirate Legend. Other than that. Safer Seas is amazing.
Oh where were y'all who cry about Safer Seas when arena was around? Bunch of y'all got clapped in there, cried and left. Same shit happens in Hourglass. Ya want easy pickings, not good PvP let's be real.

The best thing you can do about it is to practise your own skills and give your opponent a proper fight, that way you'll have some fun even if you don't end up winning. There's no fun in winning all the time if losing isn't on the table, that's what makes the PvP so much fun in this game. Pvpers won't tire out of the game, the toxic ones will. Because you will have less people who over the years have become monsters they once hated themselves before they sank million times. Instead you will have chilled out community full of good sports because PVE people are not frustrated that they are forced into pvp world and have safer seas as an option while pvp people will have better mentality because they sank million times when THEY WERE READY TO, AFTER learning the ropes in safer seas.
Safer seas shouldnt have existed in the first place. The only thing that keeps me coming back to High Seas is that I can't use my Captained Ship on Safer Seas. As someone once commented before... I'd trade you all for NPCs.
I love safer seas finally got the golden curse
its... its pretty sad that we have gone to a point in the game where... there really isnt THAT much diffrence between ss and hs now
My complaints are it sucks we can't use Captained/Guild Ships (literally no-one cares about other players' ship milestones or guild distinctions) and the nerf to Gold and Rep is too extreme as Gold and Rep are worthless anyway and while I appreciate the nerf is to encourage High Sea play it also make Safer Seas pointless for the players who intended to make the primary way to play or just have time away from the community's toxicity.
Imagine being a disabled player who bought SoT because they added Safer Seas so they can play without getting mercilessly ganked by PvP players only to be told "lol, you only get 30% gold and rep is capped. Suffer like the rest."
Maybe if we give it another 6 years they'll let us use our captained ships in safer seas. Maybe a bit sooner, but I see it eventually happening.
It tells other players 2 things:
- They have waaaaay too much free time.
- They're an edgy sweatlord.
I agree that it needs to be cut, just not as much as it is. At the current level they may as well just forbid gold earning outright because currently you get basically nothing no matter what you do AND have to waste time manually selling it at each vendor.
@@PlebNC You called the DA set meaningless and proceeded to tell me what it means.
@@twistfire77 No. I told you it was meaningless and explained why it is. Unless you find meaning in advertising your over abundance of free time and sweaty edgyness in which case, dude, have more self respect.
Well, we don't exactly have it all. We're conveniently missing LOTV voyages
"NOOO, YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO LET ME ENJOY MY POWER FANTASY! WHY ARE YOU LEAVING? YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE FUN!!"
Like you can't argue whether it's accurate or not, because your logic objectively cannot apply here. Power fantasy? Exploiting the game? Really, how?
Wrong I’ll enjoy exploring, tall tales, voyages, stacking loot, learning how to take down skeleton ships and all the other activities I haven’t done since sea of thieves launched. And I don’t and won’t care about the PvP community who have done everything possible to do in game.
Idk if it’s just me, but most every time that I’ve played, I have not seen a single person. I have gone to get Reaper’s bounties, flown as an emissary, done tall tales; but almost no one is there

Ah yes, the diverse "player interactions" of being spawn camped in SoT. That's what it's all about! Imagine actually playing world events, couldn't be me and it won't be Safe Seaers either aperently. The other 80% of the game is for nerds. Because PvP is the best part that's why they removed Arena. Bike cuck gameplay loop is King!
"I wasted 3 hours of my life, my loot stolen, and emissary rank lost. I was pretty bummed about it. But I think the crew of Athena blessed that stole it are probably more happy to have it then I am sad to lose it. The total happiness of the SoT increased. So, whatever."
Cope.
I'm playing nothing but safer seas with friends. And we're still loving it months on.
You're just sad so many jumped ship (heh) and now you can't have your power fantasy as easily.
Cope. I'm still soloing sloops, brigs, and sometimes even galleons. You're the one who's barred from a ton of content because you're too much of a coward to PvP. Must be a skill issue.
@@felinusfeline5559 it’s been a lot more fun with cowards like you gone. Fights are more engaging and competitive. People are friendlier as fighting is more expected now from those that are left. We’d all honestly prefer people like you don’t even come back lmao. It’s pretty ironic that you talk about coping though as you sit in a gamemode where you don’t have to interact. Talk about delusional.
@@FR333KSH0W Why do you want to PvP with people who don’t want to PvP with you? Have you asked yourself that? If you were a boxer, would you want to compete against other boxers, or would you rather drag someone in off the street and FORCE them into the ring with you?

Such a good video

Safer seas are better for tall tales or getting your friends to know the basics
After 50 ish hours I got bored and lonely
This truly explains the problem with safer seas, especially for people who aren't that good at the game. Safer seas allows them to play the game without getting decked by other players who are better than them but there's nothing to do as all the good stuff isn't allowed on safer seas
I call being able to track down the rare fish on my own a personal win. I do get why rare made the decision though.
I can do tall tales and not get harassed by reapers and grifers ? Sign me up.
Or harassed by the English language
As a PVP player I love safer seas coz now I know every ship I see on the seas is fair game. Ever since this Great Filter was added to the game, a lot more boats actually fight me instead of running away! And those who do the story on the high seas - well, I'm sorry? I don't know what you're doing, but if you're here now it's YARR PROBLEM!
High Seas is only worth it during special gold earn events like the one currently with guilded voyages or trying to reach level 50 with the factions to get Pirate Legend. Other than that. Safer Seas is amazing.

Complaining and moping about how you're never going to win anyway is a self-defeating mindset that isn't going to get you anywhere. The best thing you can do about it is to practise your own skills and give your opponent a proper fight, that way you'll have some fun even if you don't end up winning. There's no fun in winning all the time if losing isn't on the table, that's what makes the PvP so much fun in this game.
