    These no longer come in a white box (at least in the store I frequent) . They are now called Winchester Defense and come in a black box. I still see them online as white box so it could be a branding shift or an attempt at one. Its the same stuff regardless.

    Using two barrel lengths, and the resulting two velocities, provides very valuable information.
    A person can easily extrapolate what their 4.5-5” guns will do in the 25-50yards ranges. Great info!

    For a heavy 147GRN HP, those performed better than alot of the +P loads I've seen on here. Excellent price for a carry load, and very impressed! Great test!

      It's actually a +p just a heavier load in front.
      If you have a comp to want 124g+p/NATO pressure or 147g.

    These are the hollow points that I've stocked up on for shtf. I knew that they were adequate, but I didn't know they would perform as good as they did. Once I finish rotating through the premium stuff, I may just go to these and save myself a ton of money.

    A lot of police agencies carried this 9mm duty load for a lot of years. Out of a full sized service handgun, they'd often expand out to maybe .55 inch in street shootings, depending on clothing barriers. They were better than the .38 Specials we had prior to that, and certainly did their part if you did yours. Thanks for testing.

      The Winchester Controlled Expansion 147 grain was issued and wasn’t performing as expected in Officer Involved Shootings. This was back in 1990 when all law enforcement was switching from the 115 grain hollowpoint because the FBI recommended the 147 grain ammunition for service. The 115 grain +P+ was working fine for many law enforcement agencies. The Sub-Sonic ammunition was the hottest thing at the time. It was phased out as the Federal Hydrashok 124 grain +P+ was introduced and had better performance over the 147 grain.
      With newer ammunition technology, the 147 grain Winchester SXT T-Series, Speer Gold Dot, Remington Golden Saber, Federal HST are now providing good data on how effective the 9mm is with the 147 grain loads available.

    • @boostimalaka1
      @boostimalaka1 Рік тому

      @Randy Alvarado I would use what major law enforcement agencies use. I would recommend testing various types of different ammunition in your personal firearm and see which is most accurate.
      I tend to like the 115 grain +P+ because of years of solid one shot stops.

And I’ve had good luck with their jhp’s in in 9mm and Remington makes a great budget jhp for about the same price sometimes they are 100rd boxes. I’ve always like the 115 green and white box and the go to wwb. Great stuff again Tools. Finally bought some expensive 357 mag today but couldn’t find it locally for a while too. Got 100rds of ppu jhp, 100rds of PMC jsp, and 75rds of American Gunner xtp’s. $197 delivered. That’s not terrible for that caliber. I need some more .22wmr, less than 2 boxes left. I love how hung up people get in expansion. It’s all about placement. I’ve never heard of studies showing a fully expanded bulletin putting down a bad guy over a partial or non expanded. It never gets old

    • @JohnLloydScharf
      @JohnLloydScharf 2 роки тому

      With prime placement, a .22LR Punch will stop a full grown grizzly bear; without exaggeration. In the 1950s a woman trapper did it with a .22 long from a 17 inch rifle - no more than 98 ft/lbs. The most painful gunshot is akin to passing a stone in your kidney. Penetrating through the left of the belly button will pass through a kidney at less than 12 inches.
      If you want full expansion, use a four pound deadblow hammer in an overhead swing to get the power of a .380 ACP. Personally, I prefer keeping felons futher than they can reach.

      They do not destablize by passing through the sound barrier and they are less likely to be affected by windage. As I have often said, I like them slow and fat. When the FBI did the original checking of police use in disabling/stopping felons, the departments they checked were using this Winchester 147 9mm. Then they used it to set the standard for their pig gel. So this was the original standard for 9mm.

    Thanks for this test. I've been thinking about picking up some of these rounds for awhile now. I like the 147gr 9's. But I haven't seen any of the Winchester 147 white box ammo for sale lately, until I stopped buy my local Academy 2 weeks ago. They had probably 100 boxes for sale for $32 a box. I ended up getting some other gun stuff and passed in the 147's. I just went back buy there this morning. They only had 2 boxes left. I grabbed one of them. Should have grabbed both, but I needed some 22 magnums too. And the best part- they gave me a 20% discount for applying for their store credit card. Ended up paying $22 for the box of 50 147gr Winchester hollow points ! All the other 9mm hollow point ammo was $30+ for boxes of 20 ! Your test made me real comfortable buying these to load into my Taurus G2C. I really appreciate all you do ! And you seen to test rounds, and guns I'm interested in. I just picked up a RIA 206-38 snub after watching your test on it. You are one of the top channels I go to. And I watch some of your videos more than once. FYI, the Norma Safeguard 124 grain JHP ammo performs better at 40 cents per round (1188 fps). I'm not sure if they manufacture their own projectile but I saw a review of the load performing on gel and it was HST level performance. It must be bonded but they're not advertising it as such.

    Yup, they're good. Used 'em years ago in 9mm and .45 ACP. Grabbed a box when the store had one recently. I replaced the 115 gr JHPs I'd been carrying with these 147 gr. Good to know the claimed velocity was reasonably close to actual performance. I figured it was because I shot Federal Syntech 150 gr and these 147 gr JHP in the same range session and the Winchester white box rounds felt significantly hotter, yet still very controllable, while the Federal Syntech 150 gr is advertised to be a soft shooting, low velocity round for competition and range.
