This was my mom's go-to station when she lived in Birch Cliff in the 90s and early 2000s. This subway station has a bakery that is known for its famous beef patties (which I've never had before but will definitely give it a try). Also northeast of St Clair and Warden used to be a neighbourhood shopping mall, Warden Woods which closed in 2005 and replaced by those new houses north of the intersection. Edit: had a patty from there today for the first time and it was sooo good!
The patty place is still there even after covid? I remember going there as a kid until we moved out of Toronto. Finally will be travelling to Toronto and across the TTC for the first time in over 10 years. I can't wait.
When I moved from Scarborough to out east, 25 years ago, the bakery there had the best (imo) patties in the city. 🏆Glad to see, judging by the comments, that they still do. If you're ever in there again, do yourself a favor and try one.
Warden was my home station for most of my life. The famous beef patties kept me fed through high school and college. They also used to have way more seating: there were red benches on the walls between every bus terminal. In the early 2000s my friends and I would skateboard there a lot because the benches were so good. That's probably a big reason why they got rid of them.
Made in the 60s modernist style, large open spaces, rectilinear floor plan. It has the potential to be renovated very sleekly since modernism can be quite timeless (we still design some stations in the same ways today). Like what you said the integration to the surroundings is poor, because the site is surrounded by parking and the woods nearby. The street entrance is hard to see. This was designed for cars and busses to get to the subway. There's a renovation that was announced, to replace the busbay structure. In the longer term the TTC should replace the large surface parking with some underground parking (or a parking structure above ground), and sell the lands for profit to have a planned community around here (Condos, midrise, shops etc.) The station has good bones for it.
Sup johnny, your in my hood again. You should have got and mentioned the famous warden station beef patties bruh! That's what makes warden station so famous!
For better or for worse, everything to the west of the fare gates (including the entire bus terminal, shops, and P&R) will be torn down by 2024 to build a new bus terminal (and possibly some buildings overhead). This is because, much like Islington, it is expensive to put in that many elevators, especially into a station is starting to crumble (though Islington is in MUCH worse condition). If the development won't be ready before 2025 (the deadline for the station to be accessible via the AODA), the bus platforms will close anyway, and on-street boarding will commence. As for the fare hall, it is that large because it was the terminal station, and because all of the buses were in Zone 2, so fares had to be paid both to and from the subway. You can see the tiled over walls of the former washrooms as well.
I am glad to hear I am not the only one who found Warden Station a bit scuzzy. Although I do agree with some of your viewers - the Jamaican patties they sold at the little cafe in the bus waiting area were very good! Warden Woods scared me a bit back in the day - a couple of women were attacked in the park, and one was murdered. I only ever went accompanied.
Warden's actually one of my favourite stations! I like all the small stores (yummy food) and the retro vibe. The "waiting rooms" on the platforms are kinda neat, too. Big drawback is that it's not accessible though. I hope they can fix that.
The entrance to Warden Station at 4:55 looks to me like a school building than a subway station. Even the interior of the station resembles a bit like the schools that I've attended throughout the years.
Frequented this station a great many time back in the day (20 years ago) and nothing’s changed. Compared to other stations it’s always been one of the “colder” stations but truly unique in its own way. Loved the ride between Warden and Victoria Park as it was so scenic. I’ll also agree with everyone about the beef patties and add the samosas too haha 😂
I used this station basically all throughout my uni days since I didn't live on campus. This is not how an urban metro rail station should look or feel, both inside and out.
Thoses woods use to be great for wild raspberry pickin back in the 70s and 80s every summer i would go there with my mom and we pick all we could and go home and she would make jam ! GOOD TIMES !
Damn, first of your videos Ive seen. That brought back memories. Grew up at Phamacy and St. CLAIR. That was the first subway I ever took when it opened. On the north east corner used to be Hill Top Stables. Will check out a few more vids. Have fun doing them.
Warden Station gets a lot of foot traffic, but it is not friendly to persons with disabilities: when the bus drops you off, you have to navigate steep stairs. There is an escalator upstairs to reach the platform. I like the outdoor vibe on platform. The stores are nice. People I know prefer to go to Kennedy, bc of elevators etc.
It's been a while since you did video about the TTC, great video overall I missed these videos. It's a shame that subway station doesn't have a lot of things to offer, there is a lot of space for businesses and restaurants. But I'm also disappointed that for that station being one of the busiest on line 2 there is no wheelchair accessibility throughout the station which is a big problem.
The Scarborough stations had a real issue for violence back in the 90s they did things to curb it like removing seating and at Kennedy they started playing classical music to deter people from hanging out, selling drugs etc. I always thought warden stn was unique it always reminded me of a old school campus.
Can you please do birchmount road around Eglinton north and south? I used to live there and I miss it. I’d like to see the updates of the new Eglinton line as well as my old home south of there on birchmount rd
I don't blame you for never haven't set foot on Warden station. Dullsview for sure. Bleak and depressing for pedestrians. I used to commute that way all the time. Nothing has changed. Bakery is still there, few benches for commuters (maybe to keep loiters in check), lots of open spaces. If you wanted to go to north Warden from the south, you would have to transfer at the bus bay to get another bus. Ugh! Doubt you'll be back soon!
Really think it's great that even though you've been to some of these areas you go back and explore the little nooks and crannies you haven't captured on film yet. Really enjoyed this one because Warden station was my stop when I commuted to U of T as a student all the way from Markham (back then the area I lived in was still called Milliken Mills before it got changed to Markham). Your description of "bleak" and "not pretty" really made me chuckle. That's just how it was growing up in Scarberia.
I use to go through here all the time visiting family that dots Scarborough and Markham. The unmarked bus bays are the exit section, then the bus proceeds forward to the pickup area where the stairs that are marked takes you to. That wide open bus terminal area use to have some more seating not sure when they were taken out though. And there use to be an open area behind the wall at the escalators that takes you to the subway platform, not sure what happened there for the TTC to wall it up.
This station is a bit colder than other stations in the winter. This station is not accessible by customers who had physical challenge because customers need to use stairs to board the bus. There is no escalators.
What I like about Warden Station is the colorings, and the entire design of this station. I also like the bus concourse b/c this is even more spaceable. I think that station is prob more dated concept of passenger flow and movement, writ large in concrete, glass and tile. Don’t forget to have a beef patty on your visit!
I'm nostalgic and still call it the "Bloor Danforth" Line. I also prefer the look of the older T Series cars over the Rockets on the "Yonge University Spadina" Line. Recently got a vintage 1966 TTC subway map from when the BD line opened and was interlined with the YU Line for six months. You could ride the whole subway system without transferring.
The Scarborough extension of the Bloor-Danforth subway line will have stops at Lawrence East (McCowan and Lawrence near the Scarborough General Hospital), Scarborough Centre slightly off McCowan near the Scarborough Town Centre movie theatre and Sheppard East at the site of the former East Court Lincoln Ford and Agincourt Nissan auto dealerships.

It's not saying "North", it's saying "Towards". The announcer is a bit muffled so it makes sense how you're hearing "North". "Line 2 Towards Kipling" is what it's actually saying.
wow warden was my way home for years. there is good trails out in east toronto. nice paths. but the TTC is just a cheap implantation of travel and they have no intention of improving, just spending tax dollars
I cannot stand Warden station. It looks and feels exactly as it did in the 70s. Not user friendly. Cold in the winter. No seating. Very few shops. They could at least put up art, either in mosaic form or posters. Compare this to some of the lovely downtown stations. Compare it to Vic Park. Make John Tory live in it for a week.
What an insipid, insulting and wrong review. Warden is a clean station, with some great food outlets, clean washrooms and, despite he says, plenty of seating. It’s designed for easy access to park and to pick up persons in your car. Calling the station “bleak” is preposterous. Sorry, the station doesn’t provide you with better content but you may want to stick to your beloved downtown core which you keep repeating.
You're entitled to your opinions of course but this station is in dire need of modernization and doesn't even have accessibility access in place for those who need it.
@@bashbrannigan lol read the other comments... this station is atrociously bad and Scarborough deserves better. Let's just all be grateful that you're not a transit planner...

The TTC’s Warden Subway Station Bus Terminal is like an indoor shopping mall area.
Oh man warden station looks beautiful but my heart goes out to the people of Scarborough when they shut down the subway 🚇 line into Scarborough 😢

Warden has the best Jamaican Patties though. Absolutely great food.

Exactly. Don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Hi Toronto
Most east and west are set up in the same way.
Did the subway announce "Line 2 North Kipling"? Isn't Line 2 East/West, what does North mean in this context?
