That's the thing about Alien. They didn't even need the creature to be on the ship for the ship to be scary. I wouldn't want to wander the corridors or air ducts by myself even before the alien was bought on board with Kane. Especially that area where Brett was hoisted up by the Alien with the dangling chains.
davidofpiano423 I really despise people like you that act like the past was so much better than the present. They dont make things like Alien anymore? There was nothing like Alien BACK THEN either, thats why it was and IS auch a big deal!
Star Wars is complete garbage when you read the script - I can't believe any actor or musician would take it seriously ... But then .. JOHN WILLIAMS - loosely based off Gustav Holsts "The Planet's Suite" ... he makes perhaps the all-time classic cinema score ... suddenly the dialogue isn't garbage any more. Better still, as the sequels get more serious - he matches that in the music. (Imperial March and "angry" Rey theme) Just like with Alien - the composer had no need to pour his heart and soul into a probable B-movie ... but he did it anyway. The result is that music transforms a movie - much more than just providing "atmosphere" - although there's plenty of that in Alien. So yes - music doesn't just take a movie to "the next step" - it leaps up to the top of the staircase. It is SO transformative.
I saw this movie when it first came out in an empty movie theater. I went around 1 o'clock in the afternoon, and I was the only one in the entire theater. Between the soundtrack, and that scary bugger, this soundtrack still haunts me. Thanks for the upload!
Dreaklock I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you. Aliens was a great movie but it wasn't on par. It was essentially Alien rewritten as an action movie, mixed in with a little Starship Troopers.
+Dreaklock James Cameron did ruined it. hes a good director but there were too many clips of the alien shots. so the atmosphere that gives you that horror was lost. that is why they rebooted the story with the latest game Alien: Isolation to give you that original feel to it.
It still sends shivers down my spine. The music is it's own character in this movie. Alien is what I see as a perfect horror. It doesn't outright scare me. It makes me immersed. The fear comes from the characters and their situation and not from jump scares. You almost never see the creature yet you still always feel it's presence. It's incredible.

I did love my first home. It was almost like it was made for me... And this is the perfect song to describe the atmosphere of the inside. Dark, harsh, and cold. Like me.
I am so ecstatic that you took the time to piece this together! And your choice of shots is perfect as well! I think so many people don't realize how beautiful the cinematography and the soundtrack for this movie are.
Elliott Munger I think Director Scott was giving a nod to Kubrik's 2001 in a lot of the atmospheric feel of the movie. But Scott didn't do some sort of cheap derivation, he built something iconic off of what Kubrik had seeded into our imaginations with 2001. Both of them are legendary.
This seriously has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid. The soundtrack is understated and very effective, like many other aspects in the film (I suppose everything but the Alien itself, but even that was used sparingly as an in-your-face scare device). The whole cast was great, and of course Sigourney Weaver was a revelation to my 9 year old sensibilities. My second crush (after Debbie Harry)
Its so creepy and erie when I see a video like this because I just imagine an Alien hiding in a wall or vent, or you just round a corner and the Alien is creeping behind you Its so cool
I never noticed the Nostromo in this shot in the film. Just recognised it now from the first photo. It blends in with the refinery platform and is so dwarfed by it that your eyes are drawn to the towers instead.
I think the most of us found movie Alien super mysterious and scary mainly because of music. I will always remember the moment when I saw Alien in the cinema and literally nothing scary went on in the first 20 minutes but I was sh...t scared in my seat. This have been the main role of this gripping music

1:09 - one of the most impressive parts of the soundtrack. goosebumps. always.
Always.
There's another pretty amazing one , the opening sequence of The Shining !
I TOTALLY agree, it’s superb. All the best
Exactly. Just the music itself is so scary… perfect.
What I like about the Alien soundtrack is the air of mystery it conveys, a journey into the unknown.

This music is just simply brilliant. So evocative of the menacing vastness of space. You just don't hear music like this in film anymore.

Not true. Benjamin Wallfisch and Hans Zimmer have produced some great scores recently like “The Ring” and “A Cure For Wellness.”

yes in Dead Space but that is a video game, it has very similar music
Michael small and Phillip glass are worth listening too
The whole situation of this movie is one of the greatest ideas for a horror film ever, but damn if this music doesn't take it all to the next step.

The original Alien is, and always will be, the pinnacle of the series. In soundtrack, in story, in the Alien itself, and in human characters.

A universe, an atmosphere, a nostalgia ... few notes ... a masterpiece.
This score makes me feel loneliness, hopelessness, with a little bit of doom too. It's perfect for this film.
