A minor correction if I may? The Director's Cut of the film DID show that Captain Dallas had survived the attack, but was "cocooned" by the Xenomorph. Ripley found him and he begged her to kill him. Also, when Kane went near the egg creche, he inadvertently broke what sounded like some kind of "field" over the egg he was looking upon. When the field was broken, the egg hatched and attached itself. Finally it should be noted that the "distress call" was noted by Ripley as not a distress call but a "warning" as she replied to Ash. Other than that good video!! Especially with the description of the Nostromo.
Honestly, this doesn't feel like an April fools episode as much as an excellent addition to your spin-off series of fictitious naval disasters. You should do the Event Horizon, or SS Poseidon.
10:18 It should be pointed out that Ripley did not ignore a direct order from the Captain. At moment she was the commanding officer of the Nostromo and therefore did not have to take orders from anyone else as there was no one of higher rank than her on the ship. Everyone talks about the scuttling of the Nostromo but no one talks about the scuttling of the Enterprise during the Genesis incident, which had a much greater impact on Galatic politics for years
Incredible. Never learned so much about the Nostromo. Even that name is creepy. I saw Alien in the theater at 12 years old. Never saw a movie so terrifying again. The whole premise of a wild space bug seemed way more plausible than Close Encounters of the third kind was. In space, no one can hear you scream. Thanks for your quality research.
Man, this was yet another fun side-project, not to mention a great lore video from this channel. 💖 I'm sure someone has suggested already within the comments but you GOTTA try doing the USG Ishimura at some point!
"The final price tag of the vessel and her towed refinery being around 46 million dollars." Remember this is actually on the cheaper side of ships because the Nostromo is just a big tow truck in space. All the REAL expensive stuff is back at Weyland-Yutani HQ. I even heard they're working on new A.I. tech using some sort of ancient patents from an old defunct tech company called "Cyberdyne". Of course all the Connorologists are all worked up about it saying that this will cause the machines to rise up against us and now we don't have the Lord John Connor to save us from them. I, being a man of science, just take these worries as nothing more than religious hokum. John Connor was never real and he never fought the machines in a massive war. Machines would never turn on us, that idea is just silly.
This was fantastic! You did a great job bringing the Nostromo and her crew to life. I clearly remember seeing this movie as a young college student. I'm pretty sure I left fingernail impressions on the arms of my chair.
Holy moly! I did a project for my college science course in which I wrote a news article about this very disaster. I took the pose of a news reporter for the fictional news channel "Atlantic Cable News". I wish I could have had all this information back then (1992), it would have been a far more detailed report than I eventually produced! Brilliant piece of work - Thank you!
This is awesome even if it’s a April fools, love this movie! Thanks for all the effort you put into this channel, I’m always waiting for new episodes, especially the Great Lakes ones 👍🏻

The analysis team, which went over the lifeboat, centimeter by centimeter, found no physical evidence of the creature you described.… but perhaps that’s because Ripley blew it out of the goddamned airlock. 😏
I remember the night 'Alien' premiered on TV in my country. I was walking back home from a Saturday night party, and the TV was on in almost every house, but there was an eerie silence all over, and only the film soundtrack could be heard, interrupted sometimes by screams of terror. One of the scariest films in history
Love these little digressions into fictional worlds! It does give me an idea though, have you ever considered an Apollo 13 video? I know it's not quite in your usual wheelhouse but I can't help but think it'd be cool to see you tell that story in your style
Discovered your channel today, binged whole day during work as the episodes went. That said this one knocked me off the chair, the factual style applied to one of my all time favourite horror classics. Congratulations on your work on these stories.
An excellent rundown on the technical aspects of the Nostromo, its refinery, and the events that occurred resulting in the destruction of both. Just one somewhat minor quibble. The eggs were NOT in the "cargo hold" of the derelict. They were in a separate underground chamber that looked to've been artificially hollowed-out using the same biomechanical processes that, presumably, helped in the construction of the Space Jockey's ship. We actually don't even know if the derelict has a cargo hold (though it probably does, just unseen). Unless you believe the ship had TARDIS-like space-warping technologies, there's no way that much volume would fit inside the derelict (impressive in size as it was). I just see this repeated a lot when people discuss the egg chamber, when it can't possibly be true given the geographies on display. It's just one additional thing to screw with your head and make the whole experience more, well, alien.
Good point. Screwing with your head, absolutely. The Alien lifecycle itself is built on nightmare logic, and considering Prometheus and Covenant, built on the nightmare logic of a twisted A.I. (David). I use to think this was lame, like many others, but I think it's kinda interesting, especially with how David's character is portrayed. Alien is a masterpiece of unknown horror, where not knowing a damn thing about where it all came from is advantageous for that particular story. But if one's seriously going to explain where it came from.... there's some big hurdles like how the Facehugger seems just about perfectly designed to smother a human being's face. So how could one say "oh man it's truly alien" ? How can something that is truly alien, be able to attach itself as a parasite to human biology? Another interesting thing is that during the production of Prometheus, Ridley reasoned the difference in interior and outer appearance of the Engineer ships/structures between Alien and Prometheus was due to decay and degradation. In other words, the Derelict interiors had been worn down to the underlying bonelike organic structure, due to the environmental exposure, the deep freezing cold of the surface. Nostromo crew didn't pass through any sealed chambers. In Prometheus the interiors are strongly reminiscent of what you see in the Derelict but it's different, like stylized hard plating is covering everything, covering the bones. It's all intact due to the ship being stored in perfect condition underground. And the ship in Prometheus has some spines or antennas along the outside, whereas the Derelict no longer has them from wear and tear.
I wondered the same thing and I concluded that specific type of ship has some kind of space-warping tech, making it bigger on the inside. The juggernaut in Prometheus indeed looks smaller than the one in LV-426.
@@abelaidloera5930 Even if that was true (which it isn't), such tech would've failed long ago since the derelict had been "dead" for probably hundreds, if not thousands, of years with the warning beacon the last remnant of something operational. It also doesn't mesh with the "radically different, but viable" concept of biomechanics that Scott expressed through Giger's artwork and sculptures. To put it another way, if you asked either Giger or Scott if the egg chamber was a physical part of the derelict, made during its construction, and carried with it during flight, I'd lay serious odds they'd look at you like YOU were alien. That sort of "fantasy sci-fi" is best left to shows like Doctor Who where's it's a cute plot contrivance rather than something that could actually be created. The "engineers" are obviously advanced, but not THAT advanced, FTL capability notwithstanding.
@@GiantBoarMonster Remember that the chestburster has borrowed DNA attributes from the host. Come to think of this, this probably happens during the facehugger phase, as the parasite samples the host and adapts the embryo to be viable both inside and outside the victim. Hence why the xeno in Alien and Aliens are roughly humanoid and the one in Alien 3 is dog-like. I always thought this was a brilliant way to explain how the alien lifecycle can work with virtually any organism that can be facehugged. If DNA or something like it is there, the alien can use it and make it its own while crossing it with its own superior biology. It's absolutely terrifying, almost beyond comprehension, like the body-snatching entity in The Thing. No wonder W-Y are after it for their bioweapons division.
I love these type of videos. I love that you put as much effort into the details for this as you do for any of your real ones. Not to mention I'm a huge fan of Alien so this was great

Your research into the lore of this disaster is amazing. As a fascinating event, that will always haunt me, I am amazed at your accuracy to detail. Not exactly the way I was told this story, but I heard it in 2147, years after the incident, and my trip in 2163 to now, affected my memory, which is a rare side effect that I was unfortunate to have happened to me. What was your return times? 2163 to 2020 for me, I'm still adapting to the culture shock and nostalgia.
In case you're wondering, I didn't choose 2031 like most do, because I wanted to see the supernova in 2024, and 2020 was the nearest algorithm coinciding with the gravitational frequency that I was scheduled to leave. I didn't wanna wait till 2166, so I opted for two years earlier, and I'm glad I did. Or else I woulda waited three more years to gain two.. on the 2022 ship. But that just didn't add up in my head.
Except where he makes strong assertions that "they received orders from The Company" when the evidence simply cannot make such an assertion safely. The reality is, we know only that Mother told Dallas to capture it, crew expendible. We don't know if they have FTL comms in Alien, as it's never explicitly shown; and the fact that Lambert can't raise anybody is telling in that regard, as if they had FTL comms, they should have been able to reach somebody. Obviously by the time of Aliens, they do have FTL comms, as the plot requires; but we can't take that fact and make the same assumption about Alien. We cannot safely assert that "The Company" even knew about the alien based upon this film alone - prequels and sequels try to tell us a variety of things, but since they're all over the place, none of them is truly of the same level of canonicity as the first film. All we can safely assert is that Mother had a general "collect interesting samples, and damn the crew" rule in place, to be invoked if anything odd was found, etc. All of that other stuff assuming "Evil Company" comes from other people, and just wasn't shown at all in this film. Even Aliens doesn't show an evil company, just one so large and bureaucratic as to be horribly run... but not evil. It's when you get to the dumpter fire that is Alien 3 (and the magic egg) and afterwards where that becomes a theme... but Alien doesn't go there, so it's unwise to bring along other peoples' baggage of doubtful provenance and act like it's top shelf authoritative. It simply is not. People will use the crew transfer of Ash as a solid assertion of The Evil Company knowing, but once again... possible but not in any way actually demonstrable.
As another huge fan of the film I found this video brilliant! I went to see the it the day it came out in my local movie theatre and was hooked. This was an April present. Thanks lots from the UK.
I love this film franchise as well, a hybrid of Ridley Scott's apathetic characters and James Cameron's over testosteroned foolhardy soldiers with Ripley in the middle, kicking Alien ass while becoming one of my favourite actors. Anyway, great vid. I bought the Nostromo Tshirt in dark blue. Most probably have no idea what the blue print and title means other than I am probably some total nerd, but, I love it, high recommend.
You know, the most unrealistic thing about this video is this ship only costing 43million dollars in the year 2101. That would either be super cheap, or we're in for some major economic correction. An average passenger airplane can cost about 30million $.

This is by far the best April 1st "prank" I've seen in a long time. Respect!
This video changed me from a frequent visitor to a channel subscriber. Thank you, sir.
Man, this was yet another fun side-project, not to mention a great lore video from this channel.
💖
I'm sure someone has suggested already within the comments but you GOTTA try doing the USG Ishimura at some point!
"The final price tag of the vessel and her towed refinery being around 46 million dollars."
Remember this is actually on the cheaper side of ships because the Nostromo is just a big tow truck in space.
Don't forget to factor inflation into that number, too. That thing's dirt cheap.
So Aliens didn't crossover with Predator... it was a Terminator sequel this whole time...
i dunno, just because you can do a thing doesnt mean you should do a thing. just sayin.
46 mil wouldnt have paid for 1 landing gear, let alone the WHOLE refit!
@@TheSighphiguy That's 46 million in "adjusted" dollars.
Do you still have anything on that? Because I would really like to see it.
I LOVE THIS!
Your maritime videos are ALWAYS awesome, but as a space and sci-fi nut, I absolutely LOVE THIS!
This is awesome even if it’s a April fools, love this movie! Thanks for all the effort you put into this channel, I’m always waiting for new episodes, especially the Great Lakes ones 👍🏻
Alien is truly my favorite film of all time and this was a nice surprise when opening UA-cam :)
April Fool aside, I would actually enjoy seeing more "documentaries" about sci-fi spacecrafts.
Also ALIEN is fantastic, if anyone of yall haven't seen it yet, you're missing out. It's not just for nerds, it's a classic
Man I love your content but the April Fools ones are just so amazing! Between you and Fascinating Horror this has been an amazing April 1st
Thanks for joining legal vices. I love a good crossover.
Loved this, and love the alien universe, both old and new. And I won't mind if you made more videos like this :)
I absolutely adore your channel. This was a nice little look into the specs, and exactly what i love about your everyday content.
This is wonderful. My love of scifi is blending with my love of history. This is awesome.
I love this content as well as the REAL content thank you for being so damn good at what you do it doesn’t even matter if it’s at sea or in space in the future keep doing what you do man it’s great!
This is one of the best April 1st videos ever.
The analysis team, which went over the lifeboat, centimeter by centimeter, found no physical evidence of the creature you described.… but perhaps that’s because Ripley blew it out of the goddamned airlock. 😏
Event occurs in 2122.
Proceeds to speak of it in past tense.
There are no words for how this amuses me.
Next year, the tragedy of the SS Minnow should be remembered this way...
Those poor people...
But at least ten years later they got rescued.
I remember the night 'Alien' premiered on TV in my country. I was walking back home from a Saturday night party, and the TV was on in almost every house, but there was an eerie silence all over, and only the film soundtrack could be heard, interrupted sometimes by screams of terror. One of the scariest films in history
Looking forward to Part 2: The Sulaco, a BEAST of a ship.
Make it happen!
This kind of thing could be an entire additional channel of yours, and it would be WILDLY successful.
I LOVE when you do these! Seriously, I learn more from you than I thought I knew. lol Event Horizon, or the Sulacu would be great next! Keep it up!
Saw Nostromo, put it in watch later because i tought i recognized the name.
When i saw the dates, i finally put everything together.
Nice one 😅👍
Love these little digressions into fictional worlds! It does give me an idea though, have you ever considered an Apollo 13 video? I know it's not quite in your usual wheelhouse but I can't help but think it'd be cool to see you tell that story in your style
Im sorry but this and your Pillar of Autumn videos are EXCELLENT
I’m sorry you’re telling me the entire Nostromo costs less than a single F-18?
Commissioned in 1979?
my assumption is the dollar has just become insanely deflated by the time of **Aliens**
They were adjusted dollars. I'm guessing inflation isn't allowed to run rampant in the future.
Not to mention I'm a huge fan of Alien so this was great
Just as eerie as the movie. Great video!
As a kid, I saw Alien in the theater. It was a gamechanger of a film at the time, it made spacefaring seem real, not clean fantasy tech like Star Wars.
You've done a man's job, sir, your video belongs perfectly in that universe.
Star Wars was deliberately not clean - certainly for the rebels!
@@katywalker8322 Weren't the rebels the ones with the white spaceships and the spic and span base on the ice moon?
@@mbryson2899 dirty white ships, crumpled uniforms, and making use of smugglers in wrecks of a ship! Had a base on an ice planet for a while though. Imperials had white uniforms
We miss you Sir Maritime!
The fact that this FTL 'commercial tug' spacecraft only costs '$47 Million', while an F22 Raptor costs $150 Million, never ceases to make me laugh.
I absolutely love the alien trilogy(couldnt get on with alien 4)and have avidly read all books i could collect and keep.Ditto everything from the Halo franchise.Glad you put this on it was a trip down memory lane for sure .
3:13 Just trying to get my mind around some of these numbers. Great video. 👏👏 Alien is a top 3 favorite for me so it's great to learn a bit more about the Nostromo.
Very well done. That was great.
I didn't even read the book it came out before the movie and I watched the making of the movie and no thanks.
@@chouseification Found the Company plant here!
As another huge fan of the film I found this video brilliant! I went to see the it the day it came out in my local movie theatre and was hooked. This was an April present. Thanks lots from the UK.
I love these April Fools videos! An annual tradition I think we can all appreciate. Thanks for sharing!!
This is genius and it is very well made
This makes me smile every time I turn it on. What a great watch and a great video!! Keep up the marvelous content.
You know, the most unrealistic thing about this video is this ship only costing 43million dollars in the year 2101.
That would either be super cheap, or we're in for some major economic correction.
An average passenger airplane can cost about 30million $.
Having both you and Fascinating Horror produce quality videos on some of my favorite movies in your usual styles with absolute seriousness has been a treat this April Fool's.
This was excellent. Thanks for this pleasant surprise.
This makes me wish for a video talking about the drive plate failure on the JMC Red Dwarf.
"Gazpacho soup!"
Gotta say this April fool videos are very cool keep up the work
You're an Alien fan too, sweet haha 😄. I haven't seen such a great breakdown of a spacecraft since the Spacedock channel. Congratulations on 100k subscribers as well!
Awww and to think this incident is now less than 100 years into the future. Nostalgia at its best
This is by far my favorite April fools joke
These types of videos are amazing, I'd love to see more of them.
I was enjoying this, but then I realized I've never actually seen all of Alien. You know what? I'm gonna remedy that. I'm gonna watch it all and come back here. Give me a minute.
I LOVE sci-fi told as history. Brilliantly done, sir. Better than many documentaries of actual events.
Thank you!
Such a tale. They should make a movie out of this.
absolutely loved the production. Super well done!
I love these occasional fictitious "ship wrecks", and also the Halloween season Ghost ship mysteries you do with your delightful colleague Creepster. As others have said, the Scuttling of the Event Horizon would be a great one to do , as would the mysterious disappearance of the Babylon 4 space station.....
I love your regular videos, I got turned on to your channel by your Edmund Fitzgerald narratice (amazing stuff) and I've watched tons of your excellent content since and have loved it all, and this is somehow one of your best vids yet 😅. Keep it up, never stop, cool to see folks out here doing and creating what they love.
I hope you're doing okay Mister Maritime. Awaiting your return with more stories!
Me too :( I pray he’s all good
I haven’t watched any of your other content, but I liked it, and I dig history. Subscribed.
Hey, I loved this episode. The ‘Alien’ series is one of my favorites as well. You should make that diagram a part of your merchandise, if possible. I have been a science fiction fan for a long time. And I think you have something to do again from time to time.
Saw this comment and my channel artist did just that! I'll probably pick one up myself too!

This was an amazing video. So much technical lore I had never heard before. April fool me all the time with this kind of thing guy! Much enjoyed, much appreciated.
That was as riveting (and scary!) as the movie. I remember going to see that alone because my brother wasn't old enough yet and I didn't know anyone else in the city we just moved to.Thanks for the flashback.
FYI it’s EDL not re-entry. Entry Descent and Landing. Re-entry is reserved for landing on a planet you originally left from.
I adore these fictional episodes. Would be stoked for another Halo one too. Love the channel, watched pretty much every episode.
I love that you did this so seriously!
This isn't an April Fool's Joke... It's a great documentation of an iconic starship...
I'm not subbed and this is the first video of yours I've seen and I was wondering WTH was going on. Almost like an alternate dimension where Aliens actually took place... until the end. Nice work!
I was only 13 or 14 the first time I watched Alien. The local library had it on VHS and with my parents at work for the day I rode my bike to the library and checked it out. It is such a great movie. Thanks Maritime Horrors for the great work you do.
Thank you for this video! Great job and a fascinating retelling of the Nostromo incident.
A fitting tribute to an amazing craft, crew and 🐈 😻 🐈⬛ .
I suggest next April you delve deep into the obscure but bizarre story of the U.S.S. Defiant (NCC-1764). Crazy details there.
