I wish mermaids got a refresh, absolutely. But I just bought Island Living for them and I have no regrets. The world alone is worth it, and I love my storylines with them.

People buy the pack regardless because they like the world and items, why would they rework it when it already sells so well. As long as people are buying it EA has no incentive to put anymore effort into it
Get Stanley a veggie dog outfit and make him into a plant based sim. Build him a plant filled house with a weenie shaped greenhouse. Go on. It'll be great!
I think the mermaids just need that skill tree - not even just for the skills but to be able to tell more concretely different stories like with the vampires. With the vampires you can be like, a vampire leader making a bunch of other vampires, or you can be a vegetarian vampire, or a daywalking vampire etc. etc. If we could have a few, even minor differences between one mermaid to the next that would make them more interesting. Like, they should have leaned into the siren/mermaid thing by making those interactions where you can lure sims into the water part of a skill tree. Have it so that theres skills for mermaids that make it so they can attract dolphins and fish to them, or make it so they can give sims temporary underwater breathing and then others where they can lure sims into drowning or can make boats crash. It would require integration with seasons, but wouldn't it be cool if a siren could call up a storm while a mermaid could make it sunny?
Exactly. I remember a household of mine specifically where the one of the siblings was a human loving vegetarian meanwhile the other was obssesed with gaining as many power as possible in order to surpass vlad
I play with mermaids only. I like that they are more similar to humans and don't have tier lists. The only thing I feel is lacking from Island Living is underwater world. I would like to be able to explore underwater and find collectibles. But I understand why would that be complicated to create.
I do the same. I like that mermaids don’t have too much struggle with gameplay. Just make sure they get some water and you’re good. An underwater Atlantis would’ve been so awesome
I just think there needs to be more difference from mermaid to mermaid. Like, maybe one mermaid is more of a predator and can catch fish with their hands underwater and loves to eat fish, while another is more of a friend to fish and can befriend the dolphins etc. It just seems like it would make it more fun to play with them more often, because otherwise playing as a mermaid is pretty much the same every time except for whatever you decide to do yourself, you know?
I totally vote PlantSim. They're so ridiculous and amazing and deserve a totally decked out eco lifestyle shipping container gone GREEN house! You could even base it off the house in the Eco Lifestyle world!

Island living is actually one of my favourite packs. I live in a country with long cold winters. Like right now it's 5 PM and it's already dark, the temperature outside is freezing and there are crows everywhere in town. Playing in a sunny tropical ocean world is my escape.
two story tiny home need one thing: ladders. i downloaded kayla’s werewolf tiny house and immediately swapped the stairs for a ladder, then i could add a dining table
Not really. They did it to shut people up basically I'm almost positive. They repeatedly told people round walls would not work in the system and people kept complaining and whining about NEEDING them, so they caved and added them even though they don't really work within the Sims 4's build system.

Mermaids do not only can swim. They also can change the Weather. I wish Mermaids would get a Tail in the Jacuzzi, Kids Pool and on the Foaties aswell. Also that Kids and Toddlers would get Tails in the Water too.
I love to play with the mermaids, it's a shame they didn't get proper ocult stuff like vampires and werwolf. But they are able not just to swimm, they can switch the wether and changing the mood of other sims by singimg them a song. Oh and this fish on the wall will most probably make your mermaid sad (dead ocean friend) xD

I find it funny given the "fish" debate that one of their powers is aquatic lure, and WHY don't they snorkel?? Don't really care which one you do next but alien will be the hardest next to this. The other will be easy comparatively I think; even plant sim, there's so much plant based stuff in the game.
Tbh I was so sceptical when you decided to go with disney castle inspo, like 'waaaaat in Sulani? This matches exactly nothing'. BUT you managed to pull it out so goooood, I think that's one of my favourite tiny houses of yours.😍
I might be wrong, but I think the wallpaper you used on the outside is actually based on rammed earth, so yeah, it should remind you of sand! It's a super cool construction technique that's literally just... laying dirt. And then smashing it real hard!
Not only do mermaids not have a skill tree, they also have the hindrance of constantly needing hydration. They definitely need a refresh adding skills like a siren's song where they can attract people or something

Fun fact: Maremaids also have some weather control powers, but i am pretty sure they only work if you have seasons. Half of their abilities are locked behind a whole other expantion pack

EA should have tested those more before releasing them and made like more windows and stuff work with them, along with things like curtains. Travel town sounds fun. I started playing Hayday when you suggested it and I'm hooked. I'm on level 39 now, close to 40. I play it constantly. lol
it would've been cool if the mermaids got a secret world kind of like in glimmer brook with spell casters you get the magic realm maybe something like that would've been cool. and if they could do more stuff and had a skill tree. I think they need a whole refresh tbh
Round walls are still so broken even the windows that are supposed to work with them don't work great. I made a pretty build with round walls but ended up having to use basket to block off one side of some of the beds so sims wouldn't get stuck. And although i covered most of the weird windows I still have a few bits that look wrong

I think the thing holding back every occult (and some other things) in the Sims 4 is the team's constant fear of living up to their rating and stop playing safe. Teens are basically adults because they can woohoo. Mermaids can't actually mind control or tempt people. Vampires drink "plasma" and not blood. Spellcasters can't actually kill sims with their fire and freezing. It takes a trillion steps to turn someone into a werewolf. There are no burglars. The Sims team takes zero risks, instead of being creative to make 'edgy' content funny without offending the majority they'd rather not do anything bold at all.
LOOVE THE BUILD!!! also I wanted to tell you, I just started my first ever legacy challenge, and my sim finally got a baby, when she went into labor I clicked have baby and was very very surprised to see TRIPLETS 😭😭😃😃, it's simsies fault /j😂😂 I love you and just wanted to share sorry for the rant!! 🥰🥰
it might not have been a great use of space in a tiny home, but i think having a spiral staircase in the two story round section would have been a good choice and made the decorating a bit easier! really nice build though!

This turned out cute! For next occult, what about the mummies from sims 3? I feel like there's enough items in the game to make a pyramid/sand/Egyptian inspired build
this is persnally why i LIKE gamepacks focused on occults. the entire pack is for that occult type rather then a broad subject the occult is part of, so they get a lot more skills and perks and stuff that expansion pack occults don't get. the team has to focus on a much broader theme with expansions so i find some aspects are often lacking in comparison to gamepacks centered around a smaller theme

You can really tell Simsie doesn't play with occults since she doesn't even know that mermaids have powers. They could still do with a major refresh & skill tree, but they can change the weather, sing to other sims to make them feel different emotions (such as flirty, sad, etc), summon sea monsters (this might be trait dependent; i know good sims can't), lure better fish to fishing holes, & have an easier time communicating with dolphins than humans do. They're also totally immune to drowning, which I consider a plus.
Can you make a video about how two make the sims more fun? Because I often tend to play with a family and then wait one month and don’t play because I get bored so easily and then make a new one over and over again, that’s why I won’t ever finish my legacy challenges 😭But please make one like that 🫶🏻
am I the only one who actually LIKES mermaids? yes, they lack a lot of gameplay, but I find them fun to play with. I slap them in sulani, make their pretty outfits with the tails and the matching tops to the tails and then I build them a nice home with a back deck for them to jump into the water, or they live next to the volcano (i love that lot). compared to other occult types, mermaids are really meh, but I love playing with them nonetheless :) (i also like to do this thing where i pretend mermaids are like 'forbidden' in the sims and i 'hide' the fact they are a mermaid (like they go in the water when no one is around, only are friends with other mermaids) since you can joke about being a mermaid and accuse one of being a mermaid, so it's like they are a weird thing to exist even though vampires and werewolves LITERALLY WALK AROUND with no shame...)
mermaids are rlly cute for me :3 im filling up a save with all kinds of sims (ranging from being ablebodied and disabled, lgbt, and diff occults and all else) and i made a non-binary mermaid sim w/ a bf! their story is that in a diff world where they used to live they were shunned and whatnot so they moved to sulani where they are free to be a mermaid. like in my world sulani is the most accepting when it comes to mermaids. or any other aspect like sexuality and such really =)
I mean sure the mermaids have a lot less than the others, but the pack isn't "Mermaids" like its "werewolves" and "Vampires" its "Island living". It's one feature alongside beaches and building on water and swimming in the ocean, just like aliens are a small part of a pack that does way more.

Mermaids just add that extra touch of magic and whimsy to playing the Sims. Once we have faeries it'll be peak whimsy.

this is persnally why i LIKE gamepacks focused on occults. the entire pack is for that occult type rather then a broad subject the occult is part of, so they get a lot more skills and perks and stuff that expansion pack occults don't get. the team has to focus on a much broader theme with expansions so i find some aspects are often lacking in comparison to gamepacks centered around a smaller theme

You can really tell Simsie doesn't play with occults since she doesn't even know that mermaids have powers. They could still do with a major refresh & skill tree, but they can change the weather, sing to other sims to make them feel different emotions (such as flirty, sad, etc), summon sea monsters (this might be trait dependent; i know good sims can't), lure better fish to fishing holes, & have an easier time communicating with dolphins than humans do. They're also totally immune to drowning, which I consider a plus.

Can you make a video about how two make the sims more fun? Because I often tend to play with a family and then wait one month and don’t play because I get bored so easily and then make a new one over and over again, that’s why I won’t ever finish my legacy challenges 😭But please make one like that 🫶🏻

am I the only one who actually LIKES mermaids? yes, they lack a lot of gameplay, but I find them fun to play with. I slap them in sulani, make their pretty outfits with the tails and the matching tops to the tails and then I build them a nice home with a back deck for them to jump into the water, or they live next to the volcano (i love that lot). compared to other occult types, mermaids are really meh, but I love playing with them nonetheless :)
(i also like to do this thing where i pretend mermaids are like 'forbidden' in the sims and i 'hide' the fact they are a mermaid (like they go in the water when no one is around, only are friends with other mermaids) since you can joke about being a mermaid and accuse one of being a mermaid, so it's like they are a weird thing to exist even though vampires and werewolves LITERALLY WALK AROUND with no shame...)
mermaids are rlly cute for me :3 im filling up a save with all kinds of sims (ranging from being ablebodied and disabled, lgbt, and diff occults and all else) and i made a non-binary mermaid sim w/ a bf! their story is that in a diff world where they used to live they were shunned and whatnot so they moved to sulani where they are free to be a mermaid. like in my world sulani is the most accepting when it comes to mermaids. or any other aspect like sexuality and such really =)

I mean sure the mermaids have a lot less than the others, but the pack isn't "Mermaids" like its "werewolves" and "Vampires" its "Island living". It's one feature alongside beaches and building on water and swimming in the ocean, just like aliens are a small part of a pack that does way more.
