    As Matt mentioned my lens developed a fungus spot, repair was an eye watering £1525 uk. So these cabinets are a worthwhile investment to protect your gear

      Thanks for your story Bob and for allowing me to use it as an example. Glad you are all sorted now. Cheers Matt😀

    It would be interesting to see how it can deal with 60% plus humidity days on end without a dehumidifier and drip trays. Ottawa today (end of September) is sitting at 62% relative humidity and it is a beautiful sunny day. Summer can be in the 80% range again on beautiful sunny days for weeks. Definitely something I am going to look into.

      Wow that’s interesting to know Peter, maybe it was an even more of a good purchase seeing as we are moving there next year! Thanks for commenting . Cheers Rich 👍

      Ya Ottawa has high humidity in summer and winter. It can make hot even hotter and winter can be cold and damp. I have friends from ver cold areas of the country come to Ottawa in the winter and complain about the cold at -10c when they get -30 (but a dry cold).

    Yup, been bitten by that once upon a time, back in the manual / film days! Ever since I've been very careful with silica gel 'pillows' and an open shelf for drying everything out after trips and indeed storing the kit much of the time... The cabinet does look the business though with the lighting etc - adds something cool to your desk-vlogging set as well as being very useful!

      Thanks for sharing your experience Geoff, it's a nightmare for it to happen and if this can help they sure are worth it. It's a pretty smart bit of kit and certainly keeps the kit in good order.. And pretty cool looking, lol.. Cheers Rich 😀

    Thanks for doing this video, didn't know they made such a thing lol. We have a portable dehumidifier for the house during the winter months but that's it. I normally use a large bag of silica gel in my rucksack which I guess helps. It's a real shame that they Ruggard don't sell them over here ☹ I guess they will eventually reach the UK shores at some stage.

      Thanks for watching Dough and it's my pleasure to try and help out fellow photographers on looking after their kit and saving them money. Nice to hear what you do, I've always done the same before buying one and I've not had any issues.. Another comment below has mentioned they do them on Amazon UK for a similar price by a different make, might be worth a look. Cheers Rich

      I just bought the 80 l version from B&H US. With all taxes included (customs, VAT) plus shipping, £310. Still better than that Spolehli crap which you can find on Amazon UK, same capacity for £460.

    Great video Richard. I have had one 200 f2.8 lens that developed fungus. Having lived in Florida for 23 years I count myself lucky that their weren't more lenses affected. I have been thinking about one of these cabinets. Thanks for the information.

      Thanks Mark, just wanted to highlight to others the possible issues that can occur!
      Nightmare it’s happened to you and your lens was damaged, did it get fixed or did you have to buy another?
      Well worth the investment in my opinion and it’s great piece of mind knowing that your kits safe and not slowly getting affected! Thanks for watching. Rich 👍

      I still use it on occasion, but I never had it fixed. Truthfully, I didn't notice the difference. I bought it used years ago and it would probably cost more then its worth to do it now.

    Thanks for helpful information , the humidity gauge in my room is between 49% to 56% do I need one? Thanks

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  6 місяців тому +1

      My pleasure, ideally you need your equipment to be stored in between 35%-45% and needs to be taken out now and then and exposed to sunlight. So you are at the upper end which could become an issue. You don’t always need one of these but I like to air on the side of caution. Cheers Rich
