- Hi Guys, I wanted to share my thoughts on a comparison between the Michael Kors Large Grayson Satchel and the Louis Vuitton Speedy 30. While I realize there is a big age difference between the two bags, I mainly wanted to discuss style, details, and some pros and cons. Taking all things in consideration, if I had to chose only one, I would chose the Grayson because the pros outweigh the cons for me.
There are many more videos in UA-cam like this one, but I'd like to give a shout out to my friend All_Things_Beautiful. She did a very thorough and great review that compared the Grayson to the Speedy 30 Bandolier. Here is a link to her video.

The MK is clearly a more sleek design. ive found myself carrying my LV less and less since ive bought it. Great review 10/10 keep doing what you love, sorry im not there more 😆

Greetings! Great video! I am a guy, but I live in the city and travel everywhere on foot or via bus, so I have to carry a bag with me. I have a Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 and it really works for a guy as well. I have a black shoulder strap on my bag and it looks great for a guy. I think the Vuitton bags are unisex and I get alot of compliments on it. I now understand since getting my Vuitton bag understand why people love this designer so much, and can truly understand why woman love their bags so much! Thanks for sharing. Hi Bob, thank you! I think you're so right about LV being a unisex bag. I think it's because it all originated from luggage right? It's also a design that is so classic and can be masculine and femine. I bet your black strap on your bag is gorgeous. I love the new designs that have black leather trim with the monogram canvas. Great comparison video! I have not actually seen the MK Grayson bag up close and personal before. I like that it's lined nicely and has pockets! LV could take a lesson and start adding some functionality to their bags! I sure hope you're able to get the musty odor out of your Speedy 30.

Your MK bag is beautiful! I agree, LV's have gotten ridiculous in price. I haven't bought anymore in quite a while. I think you have to know when to say enough is enough when it comes to price. I also agree about the organization in the bags. LV's have almost none. I have some gorgeous leather Coach bags, yummy leather, with great organization that are actually more practical to wear than my LVs. My husband likes them so much better than my Louis'!!!!! Have you seen the Patricia Nash bags? She has very pretty ones and they are really nice leather. Reasonably priced too. Have a great weekend!
Hi Deborah, I just think I'd have a hard time spending that much money. I would feel so much guilt that it wouldn't be an enjoyable experience I think. I will still ponder getting my wish list bag, the Pochette Metis, but I have until October to think about that. I feel like I can enjoy my bags more when they don't cost as much. I can relax. Michael Kors also made the medium Grayson which compares a little more in size to the speedy. I compared the both as well. Also the medium has side pockets and the strap has the chain detail.

I really enjoyed your video! I'm now wanting a MK Grayson. Regarding the odor in your Louis, try a couple of dryer sheets. I used dryer sheets on a bag that was given to me (used) and it did remove the odor.

I totally agree with your opinions of the two bags.... for the money and what you get the MK is hands down the better bag. I love the idea of the LV bag and I don’t want to say that I will never have one but you don’t really get anything more than the name for what you pay. :). So funny you compared these two bags bec i bought a speedy 30 didnt like it so much so returned it and found that exact design michael kors bag and i lovee the handles on it, its feet on bottom and lovee the zipper better than the speedy

I have the speedy already, but feel like I need the mk in my like. I love the richer, darker brown. So I happened to find it on Poshmark for a steal, in new like condition with a dust bag. Can’t wait to get it. I think I’m getting over LV. Loving the MK. I feel like not too people carry them anymore, which is fine with me.

I have the MK Grayson, D&B Olivia, and LV Speedy 30 which are all pretty much meant to be the same bag by the companies. But I tend to carry my MK Grayson more bc of size, functionality, organization, and it's much easier to care for than the others. I love it!!!!!!! But your video is awesome.

Ivana, I am in love with that MK satchel. it is funny because I really don't care much for that shape of bag, but the straps and hardware on that bag are gorgeous. My gosh, I have handbag envy again. Great video with the pros and cons. Like you, I simply can't justify the price of an LV made of coated cotton. I like organization with a bag which is one of the reasons I love DB with the zipper and slip pockets. LV lovers, don't get me wrong, I genuinely want an LV Neverfull. Hi Mary, Oh I know , i am with you. I still have about three LV bags on my wish list. I just don't know if I have the nerve to send the money. It's a tough battle for me. Maybe at a different stage in my life when I'm not worrying about the expense of kids college I'll feel better about it. Great comparison! They are both great! I hope the smells goes out of your speedy soon. I have a MK PVC wristlet. I like how it wears and feels. I've gotten more compliments from that wristlet when I carry it and put it on the table at dinner then any other wristlet or bags that I own. I gave my MK black bag to my oldest daughter. It was a tote with holes punched all in the PVC which made it super lightweight and fun for summer. -- Do you have an LV store near you? If so, take your bag in there and look for a friendly salesperson. You can ask them about the smell and how to care for the leather that is cracking. Even though you didn't buy it from them, they should treat you like gold because you are a future customer to them. When I go in their store, I take my hubby with me. They actually treat me better when he's with me for some reason. I have to say that Tiffany treats us the best out of any store. We've bought a lot from them for our daughters. My oldest daughter loves their Tiffany blue leather products. And her theme always is that shade of blue. Hubby almost bought a leather LV wallet but found a wallet from Brahmin that he loves of all places. I didn't even know Brahmin had wallets for me.

I'm in love with the LV Pochette Metis. Have you heard of or seen a Michael Kors similar purse?? I can't afford a LV so I'm hoping someone will come out with one that is similar to the Pochette Metis. Thanks for any info you can give me.
There is one similar to the Pochette. It is called the Sloan Editor, I think. Just search through the MK Website, I am sure you will find something.

I have until October to think about it because it will be my BIG birthday bag. After seeing Tracyfins helpful comment I looked up the Sloan Editor and it's a very cute bag. The MK is actually a better looking bag. LV has such a stronghold... and after buying a Speedy and using it for 2 weeks straight, I don't grab for it as much anymore. It's a high maintenance bag with the vachetta. My husband hates my LV. He says it doesn't look sleek or edgy. He'd die if he knew what I spent on it. lol

Your review was great. I have an orange MK Grayson and it's the only MK bag I have anymore. It's a great bag. I have the Speedy 25 because when I saw the 30 it looked sooo big. You Grayson looks a little bigger than mine.
Thanks Laurie. I love your orange bag and the size is perfect. Your Speedy 25 is so cute too. I was having a hard time deciding between the 25 and 30. I kept thinking of what you said about the 30 being too big. I don't think it's too big though, now that I have it. It's a good size. With the bag organizer in there it takes up a bit of the space and keeps everything from flopping around. Hopefully I'll be able to carry it once I finally get the smell out. I know I'm about a month late in seeing this video. The MK is a beautiful bag, all designers imitate each other, that is nothing new, some reason he gets more flack than others. I bet some of the same designers work for both companies. I love the Speedy too, but the musty smell the older models have do get to you!
I have heard that MK had the "LV Totally" design before LV even made it, so in that case can we say LV copied MK? 🤔

I am still trying to get the LV smelling fresher and I think I'm making some progress. I'm just going to try a little longer and then give an update. I think it's in the coating of the canvas so it might be impossible to ever rid it fully. I agree that all designers copy. I just think MK has some really close designs so that's probably why he gets the most criticism. I like that he give a chance to those of us who can't afford or don't want to invest that much money in a bag, but love the designs.

True about MK, although I do see others with designs as close as his, Calvin Klein being one. Really though, it's a smart business move, although I heard his sales have been down and that is why he isn't participating in any Friends and Family sales now, I guess he's losing too much money. Enjoyed this comparison of two distinctly different brands! I am not a LV Speedy fan...I have the LV Retiro bag that has way more structure, feet, straps... the simple but elegant luggage design to make it feel substantial without the weight. These LV Speedy bags are way over priced and frankly do not have the details you like to see with a designer handbag. Channel is a better high end brand in overall quality of design and attention to detail...at least in my judgement. I am also not too familiar with the MK designs, but this bag looks great and has all the functionality you would expect in a quality satchel. It was interesting to see the differences :-) Sometimes fussy designs can be a distraction to simple classic silhouettes, but I still like having some tasteful bling on my high end bags :-)

The one with the black leather handles was at the top of my wish list last year, but it was just at too high of a price point so I went back to wavering between the speedy and the Pochette Metis. If I do decide to take the leap I think it will be between the Speedy B 30 in Damier Ebene or the Pochette Metis. I have until October to make the decision. We shall see. I agree about the ebene Speedy 30 or the Matis, they are both great choices. I was able to get an old school 4 year old pre-loved Retiro at the price of a pre-loved Speedy 30! Channel prices are the most rediculous at thousands a pop.I hope you don't feel the pressure to get these LV bags, they are expensive for most of us...lol, in short, I end up wearing my Dooneys the most!! You video was on point showing the reality ...which bag do we Tend to reach for most?
You can’t compare these two brands with each other because of the fact that Louis Vuitton is way better and has better quality do it’s really no comparison there

I loved your take on both bags, you said Kors is made of PVC, I did not know that, thought it was coated cotton as well. PVC is a toxic plastic and is a known human carcinogen. Just thought I should tell you. xoxo Blessings!!!

I'd be really interested in discussing why people are so okay with even comparing these two bags instead of criticising Michael Kors for his blatant blatant knocking off high-end designers! I'll never support Michael Kors, yes LV is a lot of money but with it comes heritage, true design, incredibly high quality. Yes a lot of their pieces are coated canvas, but bear in mind that canvas is Egyptian cotton which has been silk screened. Then tacky Michael Kors comes in with his made in china bags where - in my experience - the quality is truly awful for the price he's charging!
Imagine this was an up and coming designer instead of the powerhouse LV is today, would you still be okay with people ripping off their designs? So many people in the comments saying they're going to go for the MK version because of the price is so infuriating because he's USING LV'S STYLE AND MONOGRAM to make a quick buck!

Many designers do this and you even see it in other industries like the auto industry. I respect your opinion on this topic. The majority of people who buy Michael Kors handbags are not true high-end fashion aficionados and have no clue that most of the Michael by Michael Kors line is "inspired" by luxury designers. Of course this unintentional ignorance doesn't apply to the MK Grayson and the Jet Set travel totes because most people purchase these bags because of the fact that they resemble the Speedy and Neverfull for a fraction of the LV price tag. Yes, for those of us who do respect and appreciate the time, ingenuity, and talent that is put into designing amazing luxury pieces, it is quite annoying that Kors blatantly copies those high-end designs. However…
I will say though that from a strictly business perspective, what Kors has done truly reflects brilliant business acumen! “Borrowing” higher end luxury designs, improving upon them, and then selling his products at an affordable price point is nothing short of genius and incredibly lucrative despite the fact that it’s cost Kors his respect and credibility in the fashion industry.
A Michael Kors handbag is the poor woman’s Louis Vuitton handbag.
