Hollis have you ever thought of making a ebook of your diagrams? I think you could definitely sell a few. Janice
You are so sweet. We would rather give them away. We don’t sell anything❤️
@@HollisNancysHomestead I was just thinking it would be great to be able to have all the diagrams/info in one place. The video's are obviously awesome. Janice
Thank you sweetie. ❤️.
@@HollisNancysHomestead pray about it. Ask the Lord if He wants you to have the extra income or maybe use it to bless someone with.
Definitely much easier for all your wonderful diagrams for everything you do…I would buy tons for gifts….we need to do what we can to help others learn to feed themselves and the internet isn’t the place for diagrams and such, and many don’t have good internet access or printers
Thank you! I love the Scripture you added at the end of your video. God bless you both ❣️
Love your diagrams and blueprints
I appreciate your precise and informative videos. You are one of my favorite you tubers and your choice of music speaks to my soul. Great video!
thank you for your time to prepare the diagram. It helps to understand easier.
your hand writing is absolutely amazing!!! have to finish this tomorrow, I must transplant my berries - I tend to rearrange my garden more than my house LOL, but this weekend I will have to do some digging! Thanks for all the tips!!!
So grateful for you two sharing what you know. Love the new homestead. Continued blessings...

Hi Hollis and Nancy I'm so happy for guys on your new homestead your videos are always amazing God bless you
Hollis, you and Nancy are so awesome at presentation. Love these videos. And thank you for both for your service!
When I was a kid, we always saved our fishheads and guts and put them in the holes when planting the garden. Brings back such good memories!
I love all of your videos. God Bless you guys. !!!
Thank you. Prayers. 🙏
This is the best video on raising berries that I have ever seen! Thank you so much!
waiting for your part-two mate

Your homestead is looking more and more beautiful. Thank you and God bless you guys.
Yum...Blackberry smoothie
I saw a kitty cat running behind you while you were getting the soil prepared. Good thing you covered up that fish! Lol
I am inspired by your videos-Thank you so much! What you have done is also my dream and seeing that you have found your homestead gives me hope. Bless you for what you are sharing and keep them coming!
Stumbled onto your channel. Nice surprise to see that this was done by a brother and a sister in the Lord. Cheers!
God bless you and yours❤️😇
What a wonderful video. Hollis you're an awesome teacher! thank you for sharing with us your knowledge!
Love rewatching your videos! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💜💜💜
Hi Hollis and Nancy! I am thoroughly enjoying your videos. I am learning so much about planting. So Awesome!
Excellent information!! Thank you 🙏
Yummy I love blackberries! A blackberry smoothie sounds great💙
❤️❤️❤️
looking forward to part 2. Just subscribed
Thank you much needed info.. blessings
I loved that blues guitar in the background.
Just came in from picking blackberries and this video was in my recommended list. I'm in inland SoCal (Zone 10a) and blackberries can do well without acid soil, but they definitely produce better with a lot of water. They are very invasive. Cane tips will root easily when they touch down into soil and the plants also send runners underground. I keep them trellised in a 2' x 30' strip of soil between a sidewalk/street and a retaining wall.
Yum yum I love berries! Thank you for another great video, and the music was great too😁God Bless both of you! Bing Bing too
Yes, yum. But I shouted out No! when Hollis said they removed the wild grapes! Mustang grape jelly. 😢
And so easy to propagate once they get growing good either by cuttings or allowing the canes to touch the ground to where they will put out more roots. The canes can actually be bent over and covered with dirt and from there they will root out and put out new shoots.
I just bought me two sweetie pie plants today i can't wait for these to grow up!!!❤
We are working on our still. They are two years in the ground now. This week I am installing the trellis and pruning them for the first time. Should have a few berries by the end of the summer👍
Great advice thank you so much!
Perfect thank you plus you have nice and clear handwriting ✍️
Love all your tips
Thank you so much. Best of luck to you with your garden this spring. Have a peaceful weekend ❤️
Absolutely great video!!! Very detailed description of what to do and not do from beginning to end!! Thanks a lot
You are very welcome. Part 2 of this video will be coming out in February 2022👍
So funny to see how different things are in different regions. I live in Oregon and here blackberries are extremely invasive and grow out of control just about everywhere. They will choke out everything else if you let them. Most people here try to eradicate them from their property. I see you planting them voluntarily and I’m thinking “NO! DON’T DO IT!!!” Hopefully they won’t get out of control there! Good luck and enjoy those berries.
Yup, up here on Vancouver Island blackberries are a menace. LOL
Most Gardner's that put them in are pro active so are cutting off the dead canes after they've finished fruiting and taking a shovel to any additional unwanted plant runner's coming up so they tend not to get out of hand....but yes if they are wild or not been "controlled" they are a invasive weed throughout the world. ☺️🇦🇺
You made me do a lil gig before I went out into my garden this morning. Rule #1 play the blues when you plant blackberries
Can't wait to see Part 2!!
Working on it❤️
Much love out to you and yours from Tidewater VA.
thank you two for this video. i will need it, i have some berries to put out.
I always enjoy your very informative and thorough videos of all of your projects but I especially enjoyed and was impressed by the success of all of your North Carolina vegetable gardening videos. The gardens were always lush and inspired me to garden. Are you going to be vegetable gardening in Florida? If so, when can we expect to see the videos? Thank you!
Thanks for sharing
Oh, thank you for this. There's not much I love more than blackberries. Well, huckleberries, but I can't grow those here in Tennessee. I have a couple blackberries in my yard but cannot get them to produce much. I think I need to amend my soil. You're so smart!! Thanks again!
Thank you so much I just planted a BlackBerry plant. You make it so easy to understand!
We are working on it now. Filming the progression till we get to harvest part 2 comming.
@@HollisNancysHomestead thank you so much! I just planted mine it looks great!
Very interesting tutorial. I've grown mine supported by a trellis with drip irrigation in CA. Seems to work very well. I get 2-3" blackberries. I like your soil mix....I will have to try your recipe. You always produce fantastic fruits and vegs. God Bless.
We just planted sweetie pie blackberries a few days ago in larger pots for now & I figured we could plant them in the ground later after they grow a bit larger. I had no idea about the fish! I will keep that in mind when we put them in the ground! Thanks so much for sharing! Much Love & Many Blessings!💙🙏💙
That is awesome!

2nd thumbs up and 1st to comment, yay. like all your videos just a pleasure to watch.
Thanks so much👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love raspberry's I am growing them myself In a container
Beside side dressing with black cow this winter going to add peat moss. Didn't think of peat moss when planted a few years ago. Should have with the sandy soil we have. Thanks again for the information.
Thanks
love the music in this one :)
👍
thank you!
You're welcome!
You two are awesome I love your channel!!! I'm a local here in Newport News as well😀
We enjoyed living in Newport News. Nancy was there for 30 years and I was there for 20 years. We moved to Florida in 2017 to be near grandchildren. We left many friends behind in Virginia 💔. Thanks so much for watching. Have a peaceful week
@@HollisNancysHomestead thank you Mr. Hollis & Miss Nancy. God Bless the two of you. I have learned a lot from your videos
Hey Hollis & Nancy I have missed you so much- where is your vege garden like you had in the old house I so miss learning & seeing that growth you used to show us, are you going to ever do that again ??
I learnt so much from those videos- Hollis you must be hitting the gym as you are so trim. Cheers Denise - Australia
We are working very hard on getting the garden complex up and running. I plan to do MANY vegetable growing videos as soon as I can get it operational. ❤️❤️👍
Love your new music
Thank you so much❤️
As usual, another very informative video.
I would first like to thank you for the effort you put into making all these videos. I'm certain they take alot of time.
Second, I would like to express my gratitude for your willingness to share your experiences and knowledge with so many people. I too manage a small homestead along with my wonderful wife and kids.
Have you considered publishing a book with your gardening expertise?
I think I speak for many by saying that I would jump at the chance to purchase such a book.
The videos are great, but a book can be accessible in any situation, and be a quick, indexable, memory refresher for those of us who tend to forget what we entered a room for. 😉
May our Lord continue to Bless you and your family and thank you again for blessing us with your videos.
Thank you so much for your words ❤️. Definitely don’t have time to write a book at this time. Very overwhelmed with getting the homestead up and running before I get too old. For now, you have all our videos you can refer to before you plant to help you. Have a peaceful weekend ❤️
Mr. Hollis, I'd love to see some fishing videos! Love yours, and Ms. Nancy's channel. ♥️
Coming soon 🎣🎣🎣
@@HollisNancysHomestead yay!
I do the same but I mix it in a wheelbarrow or my my garden wagon.
Hi friends! I love your videos!! You mentioned hoping to plant some raspberries also. I’m in northern Florida and am wondering what varieties are you looking at? Id love to add them to my food forest too!
This is one of the things I have been wanting to do on my property! Thank you for so much helpful information! Only thing is I think I would have fried up those fish!!
These are Sweetie Pie variety. No thorns ❤️
No thorns? Wow..did you pick them up from Lowe’s or somewhere else?
Love your videos, I can no longer plant things in the ground. The stinking bermuda grass and the bind weed here in Wichita, Kansas are horrible. I built raised beds four years ago and am now taking them apart to do containers with the cement blocks as the "Raised" part and containers setting on them to keep them free from bermuda and bind weed. Grrr!!!
We do raised grow tables for all our containers. I think that is a solution to your weed problem. We have a series coming out on this in the spring. Be sure to watch. I think you will want to incorporate some of them into your garden
Very clear diagram, even with my not very green thumb, I could do it right.
You can do this👍
I grow several varieties of BlackBerry plants in Lower Southeast Alabama and they grow like weeds here on my place the soil pH is 6.2 I have never had a acidify my soil not even once. I have had most of them in the ground for 5 years. I usually dig up some of them in the fall and give them away, just to thin them.
Can the black berry plants be potted in pots? I just got two bare root plants from my local nursery. Thornless black berry bush. I love black berry. Thank you for sharing such good information. Blessings
Great video, who is performing the blues backing track on this? Give them some props, it's a great choice to your video.
Been a fan of your channel for years, can we grow blueberries in containers using this method also. Thanks and Be Well
Hi. Thanks for this video. Which variety are they.
I'm growing wild blackberries, and they're blooming this year. What would be a good fertilizer to toss on them? Also, since I've been making tea from fig leaves, I'm now learning about blackberry leaf tea.
Will you be making teas from any of your trees?
Love your video! Are these tame blackberries? I may have missed it! Yall have a blessed day too!
These are thornless
Thanks Hollis and Nancy!
i have clay soil . will be double digging in some compost and sand and a touch of potting soil.
👍
I just put some sulfer on the second one that is struggling to come back. So. I will see.
Adding the sulfur worked.
Good day!!! I have my blackberry bush and grapevine growing from the same 14×14×17 pot... the Blackberry bush is growing like a vine rather than a bush, i used the same soil combo minus the fish and sulfur. The plant was about the size of yours when i started (13 weeks ago) and now it's vined to about 7 feet. It gets about 7 hours of Central Florida sun per day. Should it be flowering by now?
Love your videos and how you recommend doing planting and growing. Have you all relocated to Florida for good?
Yes. This is our homestead and final chapter of our lives
what does the lime do? Are these amendments for your particular type of soil?
How often and with what product do u fertilize after u have planted. Do u fertilize twice a yr. How and with what. Ty
I just love your videos. Would Nancy be interested in cooking us something that you grow?
Where did you get your berries, if you mentioned it I did miss it. Have a wonderful day
Nancy has dozens of videos on our channel of things she cooked out of our garden. She plans to do many more as soon as I can get the garden complex up and running👍
Love the videos! Been following for years! Question for you on the closeness of blackberries and raspberries. I heard aphids can carry a deadly disease (between raspberries and blackberries). How far apart are you planting them and what disease control do you use? Thanks!!
My raspberries are about 50 feet away
Ihi from the uk i really must apologise this first video I a watched because I have been Really busy with my family and garden and everything else. so there a few questions for you what is black cow as I've not herd of this before and I think blackberries can be layered to propagate the plant and just to say how much I enjoyed the video and how much weight Hollis as lost you look great.
Oh please do strawberries soon. I will be adding black cow to everything this year. Question, I don’t have peat moss which I can buy but I already have a lot of coco coir. What do you think of coco? Is that an okay substitute? As always you both are AMAZING!
The coir is fine. I will be doing a new video on Blueberries and strawberries as soon as I finish building the enclosure. I’m working on it now
Hi Hollis....I have what I thought was blackberries right along the side of my house...but I wondered why they are not getting big...they are so little...then I found out they are not blackberries at all...lol
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕
I have one on it's third year. Only add bone and blood meal. Nothing else. Just keep it watered.
Put it outside a little over a month ago. Taking off.
Your diagramming is very helpful. Thank you for these specific subject videos. May I ask why you do not use the chicken manure rather than fish? Here in NY, I fill the raised vegetable beds every Christmas with the chicken run manure and chopped straw bedding half and half with the leaf/garden compost from last year and let it rot/cool until spring planting. Then ready to plant in Spring.
You are doing a perfect job with your chicken manure. Our winter is too short for the manure to cool down so I use it in beds that I only grow once per year like my watermelon patch. I use the fish for a rapid decay and it won’t burn if I keep it at the correct depth
@@HollisNancysHomestead Right now I'm looking at 20" of fresh snow, so I am envying you the short winters. I used to winter in FL for many years and I really miss it!
It’s cold today and tomorrow then we start a warming trend. I will start my seeds in a couple of more weeks👍
also you used coffee grounds, if you don't want to use lime !!!!! 2 to cover the smell of the fish
Viva Christo Rey
When the cow manure and peat decompose what do you put in
Awesome video. I learn alot from your videos. Now if soil ph is high use sulphur but if it low what do I put in to raise the ph level?
Add lime to raise Ph
We live in mid S.C where it is red clay. So most of our gardening will be in containers. I'm thinking also we have alot pine trees, oak, hickory so I guess our soil is pretty fertile but the clay is not so nice to work with. Lol
Would it still work if I just threw a few blackberries in to some random dirt
What kind of soil and size pot should I use to grow thornless blackberries in containers ???
where did you purchase the blackberry plants? online? in stores? Asking because the one's I find are always only a stick ( almost dead, seems like) no leaves, brown in color...
How are the blueberries coming along? Thanks for sharing
We have a Part 2 for the Blackberries coming out February 20th at 4:00pm
ua-cam.com/video/QHARyjh-epQ/v-deo.html
Is it possible to grow blackberries/raspberried in large containers with holes in the bottom?
Everything I've read says to not amend the digging hole, have you noticed any issues at all doing this?
i need a place like this to hide now lol
If you plant these types of berry bushes in 10 gallon buckets would you have to change out the soil sometimes? I live in Florida and my plants are doing fine just not growing too fast
I would change out the soil every couple of three years
Do you guys have a video for growing blackberries in containers? I was reading their are some that grow great in a container, but I was wondering what your thoughts were.
We don’t, sorry. I recommend planting them in the ground
