I worked on the set and will never forget the first day of shooting.
I had no clue what the show was about.
Walked in to grab some food and there was Robert Maillet dressed as the master…. Mask and all trying to stuff a sandwich into his mouth
    Absolutely terrifying.

I loved this series. I prefer Vampires to be Monsters in appearance instead of glammed up attractive humans. I liked that certain Stregoi went as far as putting on makeup and prosthetics to look more human in this show.

"Monsters" makes it too obvious. Vampires like Anne Rice's were the best to me. Horrific in their brutality and the fact that they looked like angels. Beautiful. Magical. Terribly deadly with little to no remorse.

I only discovered this show by accident and am amazed with the production quality and depth of the story. Guillermo del Toro does not disappoint. It's like his excellent movie Blade 2 but without Blade. Very well done vampire creature effects. Better than walking dead IMO because of the pseudo science, the rich mythology and the flashback to Nazi backstory. Excellent show and ending.

The reason the blind infected children were so fast was because they were cooked on a loam for two full moon's, ( means they were buried in the masters soil(dirt) and the masters worms were exchanged with their worms over that time making them supercharged in a way. The same goes with the masters mongrels, ( the ones in season 4 that were on a leash with a face mask that were super fast.

In my country (Romania) the word "strigoi" means a resless spirit, more like a ghost, not really a vampire. The ones that "suck" blood are named "moroi", and are dead children (by hand or by curse) who come at night and drink the blood of they're mothers. Also it is thought that they apear when is full moon. The strain is very cool tv series, one of the most coolest, but I had to explain this words from my culture.
We also have "iele" , beautifull women that it is sed they were virgin priestess of Zamolxe, the Supreme God of our ancestors. When the Roman empire concured Dacia, they were raped by Roman soldiers, and because they didn't commit suicide after, they have been cursed for eternity. On one night per year they are permitted to take young man in the woods and....eat them alive, after they copulate. The strange thing is a lot of elders from old villages dismiss all other entities from our culture...except those "iele".

there will NEVER be another 'vampire series' this good. It was better than any number of vampire MOVIES that Ive seen...and movies tend to be better viewing than a series, in my opinion. It took this many yrs post-The Strain, to truly REALIZE how blessed we were to be allowed into Guillermo's mind. And he was actually ahead of his time inasmuch as we saw what COVID did, and the obvious comparisons that one can make between that virus and the plot of 'The Strain'. I didn't think the older vampires would be conned into being killed so easily, due to them all being gathered in one place.
But I didn't necessarily see them as evil because they understood that there shouldn't be more of themselves.

Fun fact, STRIGOI refers mostly to the undead, not specifically to a vampire. Strigoi is from Romania, and it can mean also a ghost or a zombie or a vampire, anything that came back to life. To this day, there are backwards poor and undeveloped villages in Romania that burn the heart of the dead then drink a potion from the ashes to break any spell that might bring back the dead to haunt them.

I love how you connected the mythology of the book into the physiology of the show. That was actually quite clever and sound thinking. Hi Cogan Lollins!
Thank you so much to have spoken about these series (comic and tv). I never had the chance to look them up by myself, but I have to confess that this reinterpretation of the Vampires-Strigoi, with white blood and wyrms in their veins is quite cool too. Quinlan, the "Born", Half-Vampire Gladiator especially.
I loved the Mythological background with Archangels and the Three Ancients (reminding me of the Trinity from various ancient Mythologies), also balanced by some pseudo-science explanations.
The name "Strigoi" also reminds me of the fantasy universe shaped of the books and games of "The Witcher". I saw that you put the "Hidden One" from The Witcher III into a list of the strongest vampires, but I think that you slightly underestimated the capacities of the different vampires, their origins, and their story in that universe. I'd really love it if you make a more complete video on them too.
    Thank you so much.
    Best Regards to You!

He was either an original, and the master/ father vampire and/ or he turned himself into one using black magic, sorcery, necromancy etc... And created a vampire race of children . Not cause he loves them but so he could rule over the world and have his vampire children do his evil bidding. That's what I believe.and also that Satan is Vlad's half brother. The movie Penny dreadful reveals a lot. Or.. Satan is Dracula's/ Vlad's son... ??

    Vampire suggestions:
Legacy of Kain - specifically the games from Blood Omen to Defiance, it covers loads of vampire mutations and evolutions. Highly suggest playing them too cause the story is incredibly good, could develop it into it's own series like you did with Underworld.
Warhammer 40k - There are vampires in the 40k universe, though they arent talked about all that much, the main factions ofc get the most attention.
Harry Potter - Vampires exist in that universe as well, they have been seen walking among wizards & being open about what they are.
Your ideal Vampires - Basically, a video that describes the kind of vampires you'd like to see, whether in film, tv, or even video game. I'm honestly more interested in that kind of video than everything else, cause you clearly have a fascination with vampires, and anyone who likes vampire lore surely must have their own ideas.
I'm personally making my own based on D&D, but with wider differences, capabilities, weaknesses, and strengths depending on their lifestyle choice. Like traditional blood sucking, burn in the sun types are referred to as Purist Vampires, there are Vampires who mostly feed on animals like the Cullens of Twilight but unlike the Cullens still suffer burns from sunlight, they can just tolerate it longer than Purists. And the closest to Humanized vampires are those that purchase blood or are given blood willingly, they can walk in daylight with no burns, but compared to other vampire types, they are naturally the weakest, just very slightly stronger than mortals.
And I have a type of vampire that feeds too much, and if they give in too much to the thirst, they will become ravenous monsters similar to Underworld's Spawn of William, however they are seen as a plague to both vampires an vampire hunters - if say a vampire hunter an vampire were fighting but saw one of the monstrous vampires, they will drop their fight an try to kill the monster vampire, they are seen as that much of a danger to both blood sucker an living.
