I like Cain's portrayal here. I've often wondered if Cain really knew that a person could be killed. He and Able were the first humans born and had never seen a human die before.
That’s a really good point I never thought about that!
Thinking from a another person's point of view is quite the accomplishment. Bravo for your empathy and outside the box thinking.
I think he could, Adam and Eve would have presumably died of old age before them. Also, he sees death in the natural world, through animals hunting etc, and knows humanity has fallen from the grace of God and no longer lives in Eden, I think it stands to reason that he understood that he and his brother could die.
I would imagine he didnt. He was pissed off and wanted to fight but he didn't mean to kill him. Imagine being the first person to discover violence and rage like that. No mental tools to handle that experience, since it's new.
I dont think he knew he was angry and wanted to hurt his brother so he did what he did he wouldn't necessarily have known how to kill but he did it regardless
"God preferred Abel's offering. So Cain disAbled his brother... with a fucking rock."
Hey hey people.
The Merchant's Guild is everywhere lol.
Minor correction to the first 13 clans.
Tremere was not one of them, Tremere was a sorcerer who diablarized the blood of the antediluvian formerly known as Salubri.
The Antediluvian was Saulot, the clan was called the Salubri.
@@iamdream2562 Ahh thank you
@@RizzyKhaos No worries
Devouring saulot did not make them into vampires. It was the magical rituals they cast using stolen Tzimisce blood that allowed them to become embraced. Devouring saulot made tremere as powerful as an antideluvians, but there is no true tremere antideluvian
Didn't the Giovanni and Brujah clans started the same way?
The werewolves and upir (Russian living vampires) from hemlock grove are really amazing too. Oh yeah I’ve seen his art on his page so I had to ask for of me ofc thx for telling us about ratz
Oh i have never really watched hemlock grove. Could you give me some info about the vampires( upir) from the show.
@@oblivion6891 The upir pretty strong similar to the being human vampires except they are alive and immortal they have many powers of the vampire diaries vampires
Really like that show
Werewolfs come from German lore ,,,vampire from russian
@@alexsveles343 Its actually greek that werewolves come from with the myth of lycaon
*When Cogan Lollins starts making world of darkness lore videos*
Me: I'm gonna enjoy it. Very, very much.
what a crazy deep mythology! love when people actually put in care and love into things they love, makes them so much more enjoyable.
If you're not familiar with Vampire the Masquerade, it is perhaps the best depicting focused on how could vampires be inserted in a realistic world that I have ever see.
@@utubefuku7132 I am not familiar since I'm not a gamer, but I do enjoy the cutscene movies. is there one I can watch by chance or any suggestions ? I love to gobble up vampire media in any form haha
@@agirlnamedbrett.
Vampire the Masquerade is a tabletop RPG - you know, kinda like D&D. It's not a video game. It's as if the vampires from Anne Rice had a sort of semi-organized shadow society and were turned into a game.
Some corrections on the clans part. Tremere stole vampirism and wasn’t considered a clan until Tremere himself diablerized (consuming the soul of a another vampire) Saulot, antediluvian of the Salubri thus fairly loosely tying the clan into the vampirism lineages. And the Hecata, while still considered a clan, cannot trace their lineage up to a single antediluvian. The Hecata was formed very recently (within the past decade iirc) from the remnants of the Giovanni(and their connected families), harbingers, samedi, and multiple other necromantic bloodlines. Fun fact: Because of this, the Hecata do not suffer from the beckoning, which is the call elders have been getting to go the the middle east and fight for their elders in the Jyhad.
There was a TV series called The Kindred. Incorporates the different clans and the ruling class. I loved it.
also another tv series called Forever Knight very interesting as well.
I remember Kindred The Embraced.
I had the DVD set for Kindred the Embraced back in the early 2000s.
Daedalus was my favorite.
A new show would work really well with today's technology.
@@correlfreehand9454 Forever Knight was a great show. An Early Mid 90s immortal show much like Highlander
I did too and I was annoyed when it ended on such a cliffhanger!
I loved VtM Redemption when it came out. I remember using Christof's picture from the cover of the game as avatar many years. The great thing about that game was the multiplayer, in 2000 was mindblowing and 22 years later I dont remember coming across anything similar.
BTW, if you are interested in not typical vampire movies I recommend you Afflicted, I really enjoyed that movie.
Affliced its the best Vampire movie ever done an its Canadian made . I own it and if no one can find it I have a discord I could host a watch party on :D
I loved playing Vampire in college! Unfortunately most of my friends were still mainly in DnD. We didn't have a group to run games on a consistent basis. I only got to play Wearwolf once, and no one even tried Demon or Magic (which was really weird since Magic the Gathering was stating to catch fire at the same time).
In 1996 there was a tv show based on the game called Kindred: the Embraced, it was canceled but HBO was gonna pick it up until the actor playing the main role died in a motorcycle accident that’s when they decided to do True Blood. Not sure you can watch it online I know you can get the DVD’S.
I just made a random theory, that Cain is working, or even runs the inquisition, and the " end of the world" is actually Cain inacting the end of all vampires. Maybe in the end he finally repented Abels death, but now he must put down all his children to end his curse.
Would make sense, he couldn't comprehend Abels death at first, because he couldn't empathize with the loss of a child. But after the flood, and the 13 killed his 3 children. Perhaps he could then empathize with God, and his parents, Adams and Eve, and how they would have felt at the loss of Abel.
This is awesome that your coming up with new ideas for the channel and I thought it wasn’t even possible because you’ve done almost every movie about werewolf’s and vampires! Keep up the good work man. 👍🏼
Incredible video! Vtm is by far my favorite when it comes to vampire lore. It's sooo extensive! 🤩
I am an old school diehard VTM fan, and dude for a 19 min video, you summed it up in a nutshell VERY well! Vampire the masquerade redemption is the first game (point and click game similar to diablo) and I HIGHLY recommend you play that first! It is and will forever be one of my all time favorite games! Bloodlines is also awesome too! I can't wait for your next video!
Can you cover the vampire lore from Tsukihime (original visual novel, not anime) and the rest of the Nasuverse? Mages would be cool, but that might be too much research, and vampires are pretty much exclusive to just Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya and the Tsukihime Remake.
Finally!! I've been waiting for you to cover this.
I loved this video and vampires. This video is very underrated. You earned yourself a subscriber!
As a veteran in WoD and VtM itself I really liked your video, except for some things that have multiple theories behind (Whitewolf doesn't like to make things cannon to give the storytellers free space) it was a very good and informing video for new WoD players, thanks!
As a fan of both your channel (and of this series) could you perhaps do a vid on THE most Dreaded of the Vampires from this series - I refer of course to The Giovanni Clan. Often times called by both Sabbat and Camarilla as "Devil Kindred," due to both their horrifyingly painful bite and their alleged ability to set off an actual apocalypse? Supposedly, they had the ability to open the portal to cause Eternal Night. If that isn't scary, then nothing is, yeah?
Great stuff on Caine BTW. Looking forward to more!
That sounds really cool I will definitely look into that! Thank you!
@@coganLollins If I remember my lore correctly, (it is somewhat dated) The Giovanni were both a clan of merchant princes (and related to Niccolo Machiaveli himself) but were also the most *vile* of necromancers. Nominally they got along with The Sabbat, (the Camarilla despised them for slaughtering their forebears The Cappadocians) They were, basically loathed for their gruesome antics - Even the Tzimice were sickened by them or so I read. (The Tremere of course didn't give a damn, as they were FAR more brutal in their reprisals.)
But the idea that a Clan dedicated to causing Endless Night..? A clan as ghoulish (though more subtle about it than most) as the Giovanni..? (considering their MASSIVE influence in global finance and the like) is beyond scary. Truly a clan worthy of being called "Devil Kindred."
@@Sidragrosm Honestly the Giovanni are pretty much ignored by the larger Sects (Except for the Sabbat's Harbingers of Skulls) unless they're called on to fulfill their medator role via the Promise
@@REZIX233 Given how insular they tend to be (no doubt a product of Augustus Giovanni, much like their Cappadocian forebears) they would be ignored - but certainly still kept watch over. Given their Necromantic, Arcane skills (and capacity to cause global levels of financial disaster) the more cautious among the other clan elders would keep watch, yeah?
@@Sidragrosm oh sure individual clans have dealings with them, hell the Tremere allow some Giovanni to join House High Saturday. Most elders, especially those who predate Agustus look at him and his progeny as nothing more than scum who stole immortality and not even in a creative way like the Tremere did. It's honestly what's let them fly so relatively under the radar. Like the Sabbat barely thinks about them (Except for the Harbingers of Skulls who hate them with a burning passion for soooome reason >.>)
And I'll see you "insular" and raise you one "extremely inbred"
Thanks for doing stuff with VtM! I always try to fit the other vampires you talk about into the 13 clans
This is such a good video!!! Cant wait for the masquerade video!
Can you please do *The Breed* a 2001 vampire movie? The Masquerade’s “take” on vampires is a new one for me. Thank you very much, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve heard a new vampire story! I really enjoyed this!
I remember the Book of Nod from decades ago. Great material and artwork.
I can’t wait for your next videos. A deep dove into Lilith would be dope too. Subbed and excited for more VtM content 🙏🏼😎
This was so awesome! Keep up the great work! 👍👍😎
I love this vampire origin story. It makes sense. Great explanation!👍🏾
How did I miss this? I can’t believe you listened to my suggestion for VTM! Awesome.
Damn it man, I always knew about Masquerade for the name but never got into the lore.
Thanks to you now I found a hidden gem!
Nice video, hell yeah I'm suscribing to you!
Great idea for a video, love it!!
long awaited video cool stuff
New to the channel and loving every minute of your content!!
This is my first time leaving a comment but let me just keep it short and just say I absolutely adore your videos.
My suggestion is for you to cover both Vampires in the Elder Scrolls saga and the video game Vampyr.
Can't freaking wait for the next video. I might take the leap and play.
Just discovered this channel and I must say: I'm in love. Pardon me whilst I send you to everyone I know.
(Also I'm HYPED for you to do Demon: the Fallen one day)
Oh yes, at last. I waited a long time for this.
Maybe for the next video
1.) the vampires from AHS Hotel
2.) the vampires from being human (bbc And Syfy version)
3.) the vampires from what we do the shadows
4.) the vampires from v wars
5.) the vampires from moonlight
6.) the vampires from supernatural
Love your vids man.
This is good. Like I’m watching this in awe
man i can t even count how manny times I replayed bloodlines. such a good game
Loved the video! Can't wait for the next video! Have you ever looked at any of the Ravenloft/Strahd lore from D&D?
I have not but looked into D&D too much but I definitely will 👍
Still can't get super saiyan caine out of my head, thanks sseth.
Don't know if you'd ever venture into comics, but the vampires from DC, specifically Andrew Bennett, are really interesting!
Wow outstanding! Great job
Love this review. Well done
Amazing video , this really deserves more attention and recognition. The amount of effort and hard work is just astonishing
Well, you've outdone yourself with this one!
I love your channel. I've never played this rpg but I'm learning the lore
Could you cover the supernatural lore in Being Human(US) if you have the chance? I love the way you explain the creatures in each movie/show😃
Really enoyed the fact you included Lilith in this as she is often overlooked. I know this is strictly about Caine but it plays into his story, a bit of missed lore from her followers (The Bahari) is is that Lilith tried to instill her teachings in Caine so he may stand in opposition to an abusive creator as she did, but he proved too weak or unwilling to learn and fled with what he did have (some of her power and the basis for the disciplines). Though some theorise this was her plan to begin with to help him fall further from grace in an act to spite god.
Later to cover his weakness, attack someone who could overpower even him and take revenge on Lilith for her lessons (which were taught through pain, humiliation and sacrifice just as she had had to learn them out beyond the gardens) he took the 13 to her garden and murdered her children. All but Toreador and Nosferatu took part in the slaughter, it was after that Lilith left this plane to plot and grow in her final garden and Caine tried to wipe the knowledge of her and claim to be the true origin of all Vampiric powers.
Ahi Hay Lilitu.
How comes she’s not called Eve?
@@harrisonhoward5814 Eve is a seperate entity. Lilith was the first woman, created at the same time from the same materials as Adam when she refused to submit to be Adam's and wished more for herself (knowledge, freedom etc) Eve was created from Adam to take the role instead. (to give a very simplified version of that bit of vamp lore)
Thanks for the video!
Cogan, if you're fairly new to VtM yourself, I'd highly recommend listening to the VtM-dedicated body of work that fellow youtuber 'Lazar of Stygia' has produced. There are dozens of hour-long videos that should give a fairly in-depth look at vampire society, their origins, and the clans themselves.
'The Gentleman Gamer' also did an excellent series of in-character clan videos a few years ago (all of them starting with 'The Gentleman's Guide to Vampires') and has since even written for White Wolf/Onyx Publishing. I likewise highly recommend his content on the subject matter.
As for this video itself - it is a well-produced primer for newcomers, illuminating a snippet of the obsidian-black expansive monolith that is VtM lore.
While I enjoyed the video, I do have some (hopefully constructive) criticisms to offer:
1) The Tremere were not one of the original clans (this was the only flat-out mistake I noticed). They used to be House Tremere (i.e. a group of hermetic mages - sorcerers, specifically), before a ritual involving the lifeblood of a Tzimisce elder turned them into vampires (gaining Clan Tzimisce's eternal enmity). The now-new Clan Tremere proceeded to usurp Clan Salubri's place within the Camarilla and the rest is VtM history.
2) Even though the Camarilla tries to portray itself as the de-facto 'vampire government', that's mostly propaganda, aimed to legitimize their rule. In fact, as far as they're concerned, every vampire is under their jurisdiction, even the ones belonging to the Sabat or those in the Anarch Free States. They are, however, one of the major sects/factions of the Old World of Darkness.
3) While not strictly wrong, it should have been stated at the start of the video that you're using both Old World of Darkness (OWoD) and New World of Darkness (NWoD) lore combined. I'm fairly certain of this, given that you've only mentioned the Camarilla and Sabat instead of the newer covenants, yet you used 'Hecata' (NWoD) instead of 'Giovanni' (OWoD). Since you've stated you're fairly new to the fandom, I presume you were not aware that there was a difference and simply presented it all as a cohesive whole (there are significant lore differences, but enough similarities to make it easy to mistake one for the other).
Best regards from Transylvania.
Vampire The Masquerade! Thanks Logan!
Great video!
so happy ur taking a look at VTM
I love vampire masquerade glad u did this
Caine and his children and also how he's much dangerous and scarier than all of them, reminds me of Muzan Kibutsuji (Demon Slayer) and his children. All demons were like innocent babies compared to the absolute evil that he represented and truly was!
nice video i subbed
as far as origin stories go, this one is very interesting, good video :)
Very nice video. I'd love to see you cover the Second Generation in more depth if possible. The Revised edition clan books go into them a little.
Can't wait for tzimisce an tremere lore ti be covered by u! Kudos.
PS: never Heard about Nosghot? 🤣
Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver games are epic and have great and deep lore on Vampires.
Very interesting and well told. Have you done one about shadow man?
This seems to be quite the blueprint to so many vampire soaps.
Thank you..I have played this for so many years
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
This was amazing really makes me want to play the tabletop game. Can you go over the werewolf tabletop game?
I still play bloodlines to this day. Incredible game.
You are a very cool human being, thank you for making videos on this.
(also if you like RPG's then i would try out Baldur's gate dark alliance or the champions games).
This is so freaking awesome makes me wanna play bloodhunt more
amazing lore man
Vampires and werewolves from Skyrim would be interesting to see, specially when you cover Serena and the companions
The order 1886 is a game that had a lot of hype from what I remember but man I haven’t heard anyone mention it since especially with that scene against that elder in the gameplay and it was awesome
Next would have to be the ones in resident evil even though they’re infected with the Cadou, it’ll be interesting to see what you think and what else you’ve discovered
Ah, cogan's journey into the World of Darkness begins.
Of all the different vampire lore's out there this is easily my favorite.
Would LOVE a video about Mage and it's lore!!
Awesome video.
Do vampire the Requiem second edition please, great video by the way, keep up the good work.
You should look into Brian Lumley's Necroscope series for a very unique look at Vampire lore :)
Yes absolutely. I’m almost done with the first book and wow what a take on the vampire mythos! I also started a little bit of Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff. So far it’s pretty good 👍
I think that's where White Wolf got many of their ideas for the Tzimisce's Vicissitude Discipline from.
Fun fact. Clan Tzimisce was heavily inspired by the Wamphyri in Necroscope.
awsome video! I would love to see a video about being human us or being human uk. Love the series and the lore is soooo good
Yes!!!
I'm a big fan of the table top and larp of masquerade. I used to larp the game in the late 90's until 2001. our group would do a local game every 2weeks then expanded out to a larger group that met once a month in a city not far from us ,that group met in a pub with caves in its cellar that were part of the network of cave leading to and from Nottingham Castle it's was really cool for the atmosphere .
I had a friend that was obsessed with the Changeling tabletop game.
Not to split hairs but The Tremere are not one of the 13 original Clans. Tremere was a mage who imprisoned Saulot and mystically stole his soul & power after drinking all of his blood. The Salubri would be one of the 13 original Clans & not the Tremere.
I was just about to say this!
The Tremere actually became vampires through a ritual using a Tzimisce. The Tremere decided to diablerize Saulot and the Salubri for political gain and power.
Great video
Interesting video ✴️🐉
nicely done
You should really do a video on the various creatures from the TV show ‘being human’ (preferably UK version because it’s better)
I've seen you do Vampire The Masquerade videos and lots of Dracula stuff so I think it would be great if you'd cover Vlad Tepes/Dracula of the VtM universe as well. I think lots of information are readily available for it especially in Beckett's Jyhad Diary.
I like how the story with the archangels visiting him and stuff is kind of like a reverse of the Hirim Abiff legend
Thank you so much 😊
In the lore of DC's Sandman, Cain is cursed for being the First Murderer. So is Abel cursed for being the First Victim and so they must re-enact that crime throughout all eternity.
Dang Steve blum voiced in this too!? He’s always on the grind lol
Redemption and Bloodlines are actually both canon to VTM tabletop lore depending on the edition. As far as I understand, Redemption was canonised in late V20 (with some retconning to help with contradictions), and Bloodlines was canonised in V5. I don’t believe any of the other games are currently considered canon, but I could be wrong.
Nice video...from the conspiracy theories and occult info that I've listen to, this "fantasy lore" seems pretty realistic and plausible...wouldn't surprise me to be real 😅
The vampire books white wolf published were great as well especially the masquerade of the red death trilogy!!
Would you cover the immortals? It’s a Turkish series.
As you know Dracula (prince vlad of wallachia) was warring the ottoman Turks.
Seeing as how you're on Cain ...
Might I suggest doing a deep dive into the lore of The Legacy of Kain series.
I happen to play Vampire the masquerade. I’ve been playing with one group for almost 2 years and I’ve been playing with another group for three.
I was literally just wondering when you were going to cover vtm lore. Guess I should've payed attention.
Very nice. The additional detail on Cain's origins and how the curses came to be is something that gets skipped over a lot. Were those a recent addition to the lore or just something people didn't go into?
No, its lore from Vampire the Masquerade, Vampire the Requiem has different lore
I really really like this vampire world and lore in fact it's probably my favorite now compared to most other vampire worlds and lore i know. Are there any movies or tv series besides kindred that are more heavily about this masquerade vampire world?
