Like your videos and the way you explain the issue at hand. Just went through this with my 05 4,3. fixed it after a few thrown wrenches and a few less than classy words. Diagnosed it just as you show. thanks. keep up the good work.
Great Video! I've had leaking Fuel Pressure Regulators in my cars before. To test them, I've connected a vacuum pump to see if it held vacuum. They're the kind where they have a vacuum line that connects. Of course, another way to test it would be to smell the vacuum line for raw gasoline. But, I had never seen one without the vacuum line. Thank you for the great information.
wow !!!! i never knew that much about this system. everyone always told me how difficult it was to work on these . NOW..... i feel confident to diagnose this problem !!!!!!!!! thank you sooooo much !!!!!!!!!
I have a 2011 ford explorer I was told it don't have a fuel pressure regulator. I have gas coming through the throttlebody down to the air filter housing also in the intake
Just giving some friendly advise here, to some people that may be looking at this video, because their jimmy is not starting or is stalling, and they suspect that this spider/fuel pressure regulator might be the problem. I was working on a 95 gmc jimmy 4.3 vortec, she started hesitating every once in a while and eventually would not start. After replacing fuel pump, 2 sensors, spark plugs eventually found the real problem. Turned out to be the electrical plug going to the fuel pressure regulator/ fuel injector. Somehow it got real dirty. Cleaned the connections real good, plugged it back and she fired right up. And she has been running good for some time now.
Same here, I could wiggle the red/blue wires and kill the motor. They make a replacement harness. Gotta pull the intake to replace so might as well do all you can while your in there.
this guy is freaking amazeing... even i can understand him!! before i work on anything im checking to see if he has a video on it. i wonder if he s got relationship advice video ,, ill check
Great tip Duane, also after scan data gave me this direction on a few, I have while under pressure koeo open the throttle plate and used a small lighted mirror. Sometimes you can watch them drip. Of course fuel trims are max neg and mostly codes are set for rich o2's with these.
I'm shocked at how angry I am to hear that alarm sound at the beginning of this video.... That is the same sound I use for my morning alarm and i physically flinched when I heard it haha Good video thanks
Thanks for the information provided. I'm going through all the videos I can find on this particular engine and issue, I'm procrastinating because I have to do this outdoors, in -20° winter wonderland weather. 🥶😂🍻
@sweetlikeADAM If you are that worried about grease, you can use a light oil, but I'm not aware of any place that it is *not* a good idea to apply a little silicon grease on an o-ring. It helps the o-ring seat without binding or rolling off. I ruined many o-rings over the years before I found this little tid bit.
Ok so in order to change the regulator, the intake must come off upper. Usually when the regulator fails it starts leaking into the cylinders causing a misfire or bad idle which burns rich. But then it'd be a good time to check your spider injector on your poppets
Another great video! I love the klaxon. Wouldn't it be great if a Klaxon went off when the FPR started leaking and maybe General Quarters when the "nut kit" starts leaking! LOL Dont' forget to view the CPFI Internal Leak video too. It illustrates the "nut kit" leak. Sadly, you rarely receive even a code for either but you can smell the gas fumes and loss of power.
My advise before you go replacing parts is test things first. Take your time testing parts and get a repair manual from your local library to help you.
I needed to do the intake reseal on this same engine, so while I was there I put a new spider set in. I am getting the same rough idle now and thinking its the regulator....
I've got a 95 jimmy with the 4.3 in it that is stalling out as soon as I shift out of park/neutral. Already replaced the iac and ordered a map sensor, this could likely be the next step.
I am going to do the pressure test. Sounds like my problem. Excellent video. My 4.3 is in a Chevy astro. Looks like a job and a half the way they have the engine all tucked in. Anyone know if this job can be done without removing the motor?
All seems to be fine, but before to put the uper part of intake manifold, I would like to know if I need to adjust the new Fuel Pressure Regulator I just put there just to be sure.
@CoolasIce2 No, actually, I do not. It is common sense. Dwayne is a very intelligent technician, but, like the rest of us, he is not perfect and he makes mistakes.
Thanks for the video. I'm having very similar problem what's 94 GMC Safari van. Only, mine starts fine and idles fine from cold start. I let it warm up shut it off and I can hardly get it going again and I smell a lot of gas. Does this situation still fall under conditions in this video ?
I have 96 jimmy with vortec and about 270 k I have owned it for about 6 months. It runs rough at idle only so far I haven't done much but replace some cracked vacuum lines that go to canister mounted on hood, I have started to research where I should go with this by watching some videos. So far I believe a good starting point is to inspect and clean the IAC and the throttle body and inspect inside intake for any fuel leaks from spider or regulator. If there is any indication of any leaks I appears I would certainly have to remove intake further to ascertain what is leaking as in spider lines, poppets or regulator. Do you think I am on the right track? anything else I should be doing? thanks
all your video are excellent eazy to understand when I blow spark plug on ford 150 you where good help thanks a lot good teacher having problem with 2002 caravan hard to start every morning expecting bad fuel regulator but its in the tank any video on it
Hey Duane, What would the remedy be on the same engine, same symptoms, in a 90 Astro? I don't know if it has the same intake, but I doubt it. Any suggestions?
I'm having the same issue, can't find any visible leals, it want hold pressure, however I have air coming out of the amall hole on the FPR. Could this be my leak?
@Mysterio2276 Dude, reread my comment, and also read "sweetlikeADAM" comment that I was responding to. He asked " a 4.3 What?" He did not know what engine a 4.3 was!! I believe that you took my statement out of context. Maybe I should of said the popular 4.3, or very common 4.3. I think the 4.3 V6 is an excellent engine. I am a mechanic, not an English Major. LOL!!!
not sure exactly where your leak is but I think if it is raw fuel leaking I would expect to see a rich condition that would reduce the injector pulse width, and drive thew STFT negative.
So i have a 1993 S10 and i am having these problems with mine and would this cause my s10 to rev up and down when at idle and i also have gas coming out of the tail pipe and black and white and would this cause it to waste gas like there's no tomorrow thanks
I have a 94 chevy s10 blazer. My car idles great it purrs but while driving it feels like it's wanting to die at times. Really hesitant at acceleration. I just had a major tune up, new ignition coil, new TPS but problem persists. Any suggestions??
I have a 2003 silverado. Just started having problems. Starts runs rough like wants to stall , exhaust is whiteish smells strong. Coolant and oil levels ok. . Could mine be same issue or stuck injector or bad.? Gives a p0300 code. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance..
Hi Ray, I know it would be great if it were that easy but there are just too many things that could cause those symptoms. What is needed is to evaluate both the freeze frame and live data . Anything other than that would really be a blind attempt to find the problem. Let a good diagnostic shop take a look at the data..
so i took my car to midas today and they told me that my fuel pressure regulator was building up or soaked. i'm guessing that it's just from the car being 7 years old without it being replaced and hoping it isnt a fuel line leak like you showed that way i don't have to take the engine apeart to find it. the car shakes real bad when i put it in reverse or drive and has a strong odor of gasoline. would replacing the regulator fix these problems assuming that is the regulator?
ok all I want to know is where to locate the fuel injection pressure regulator is so I can put a new one on my 1995 hard body Nissan hard body pickup.awith 2 WD ,and a v-6,3.0L engine
+rag Doll there is an adapter that goes where your fuel filter screws to the fuel line on the frame. check it there. those fprs are a diaphragm with a spring. they do tend to leak.
Thanks. But I went ahead and did a full chevy 4.3 v6 engine and th700r4 tranny swap over to my cj7.. May be a good reference for the future though. Wish the fuel line had a schrader valve.. But it doesn't. :( Thanks. :)
@sweetlikeADAM Dude seriously?? You don't know what a 4.3 is?? The infamous chevy 4.3 V6. This engine is in S10 Pickups, S10 Blazers, Fullsize pickups, Oldsmobile bravada, he even says in the video oldsmobile. that means GM. And you are worried about a minute amount of grease on an Oring?? How does grease corrode anything?? It does the opposite. I am speaking from over 18 years experience as an auto tech. @@realfixesrealfast Thanks for the quick reply. Nice videos. For a 2000 GMC V6, 4.3 L, do you know the typical reliable life of the fuel pressure regulator ? And do you know the typical reliable life of the fuel injector / poppits ? Would it be wise to fuel injector / poppits assembly after 200k miles ?
@@kekfreedomheritage5633 There is not an exact answer to that question. If a part id broken you replace it. If it simply worn experience would expect that 200K miles is a significant amount of wear and tear on those parts and it would most likely be in your best interest to replace them with new and it would definitely improve your performance.
@Chevyboi1488 4.3 a boat anchor? Your 350 is a much better engine? Yes I would take a 350 over a 4.3 , but that does not make a 4.3 a bad motor? A 4.3 is a 5.7 minus two cylinders. You will find the same intake setup on a 5.7 from the same year models. The starters are the same. pistons , rods , bearings , pushrods , rocker arms , water pump , they are all the same! 350 gets better gas mileage? Not according to EPA ratings!
