Motorcycle Carplay & Android Auto by Ottocast. Did I get a lemon?

Ottocast now makes Carplay/Android Auto units for motorcycles. They were nice enough to send me one to review. How is it? Well..... I like my generic brand one better, and in this video I'll discuss why.

Ottocast rebrands generic products from manufacturers and then increase the price because their name is on it. I bought a generic of their C5 Lite model for $115 delivered to my house. I can't go for any motorcycle "carplay" device that can't be removed easily to secure it while on a trip, for instance.

I prefer being able to choose where the audio comes from. Their more expensive unit requires audio to go from the phone to the unit then to your headset and it can be buggy.

Hi, I have the same device. Did you experience any battery drain ? Or is it really turn it off when you use the OFF BUTTON ? feels like the screen is still ON and dimmed down to minimum level. Should the RED light actually turn off ? Just wondering what your experience is with this device when hardwired to the bike’s battery. Thanks

I didn't hardwire mine. I actually connected mine to a USB port on my bike. On the bottom of the device is a USB-C connector. I just connected a regular USB-C cable to it and then to my switched USB port on my bike so it would come on and off automatically.

Hi! Thanks for the videos. I think this one look better than C5 but i saw alot videos abt C5. This one looks not so popular. Can you compare it with C5

Another negative is the touch sensitivity to gloves that is not efficient... The screen is capacitive and there's no setting to adjust the sensitivity.

Anyone here who owns this that experiences the device shutting down while riding at high rpms then would turn on again or sometimes not? I have to pull over and disconnect then connect the cable just for it to turn on again. Mine is hardwired directly to the battery. Would there be a difference if I wired it on the accessory wired switch instead of directly on the battery?

Also we bought two pieces for this version.They have so much trouble.
In daily use it goes off suddenly,sometimes reconnect again to your phone sometimes it couldn’t.Screen goes to dark and reconnect again.
I tried every solution connect wires from battery or typce c for energy but results were same.
Both two devices are some proplem.
I tried to keep of bluetooth after successfully connects to carplay but result’s newer changed.
I don’t recommend to buy it from ottocast also they dont reply your mails?

I have one as well and have the same issue. The function of CarPlay works okay. Just the pairing to the headset is a nightmare. I’ve removed it and back using my phone on the handlebars.

Yeah it's a shame. I wish they can work the bugs out because it really would be great to use if everything works properly

Nice review, only question is will it let you stay connected in DMC mode with your headset... when connected to Ottocast..!!
Can we talk with other riders simultaneously when you are connected to this device...!!

@@nfinnigan I was able to test it with my Cardo and my wife’s Cardo in DMC mode and it worked same time I was connected to CarPlay… Key is to connect the CarPlay with Cardo as a GPS device. Cardo had a setting which works 2 Bluetooth connections one with primary phone for audio/ communications and another one for GPS. It lets you stay connected with CarPlay and DMC at same time.
