Respect to you Mr Holdgate. You are looking great at 70....much health and happiness from an Australian veteran.
This man is a living legend and I don’t think he realizes it. Thank you for your service, sir! And for making my childhood great with your work.
IMHO a lot of people would be interested in seeing a photo book !
One of my favorite photos of all time.
0:25 This photo has burned in my mind since the first day I saw it.
Looks like he's still wearing his issue pullover 😁. I wear mine for gardening, not bad for a near 50 year old bit of kit.
I joined the Army at 16 years old in 1990 so I remember those jumpers well mate, the modern fancy current uniform is so different to what we had back then.
@@gooner72 I saw some squaddies in Stafford a couple of weeks back, they were wearing soft canvas DPM boots, combats and green T Shirts. Looked very comfortable to me. I joined in '68 and left in '93. We wore BD in Basic Trg, didn't get OG combats until P Company. Happy days, though I wouldn't join up now.
This picture inspired me to join the British Armed Forces and. GSTQ 🇬🇧
The image was even used in the 2007 commemorative "25 years" post stamp series Guernsey, a British Crown Dependency.
Great story, nice to see military Phot getting some recognition. Would be fantastic to see his work in an exhibition. I recently saw an Instagram story from the RBL with an interview between Pete and the RM he took the photo of.
What a fantastic picture. I first saw this photograph 40 years ago as a child. Delighted to know the story behind it.
Splendid work. Good man!
I've still got lots of photos that I took over there... some have been copied by an artist friend and hung on my walls. The weather conditions were inhospitable at the best of times...!
Mr Holdgate you are true legend. I have a painting copied from that famous photo you took hanging in my office here in Australia.
Well done Sir and good health to you. 👍👍.
Good story, there's so much difference between photography then and now. Film and black n whites had a thing going on that can't quite get with digital even color film has that closer to the eye quality
I was 12 years old and the Falklands war was the first thing like it I watched in real time on the news. I always thought the British troops looked cool. That is the one image that I think of first when it comes to that conflict. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Lovely feature.
Camera bought in Kowloon, HK!
He was probably stationed out there with the army.
Is there a book with all these ???
For some weird reason I was on the Chilean and Argentinian Border as a tourist at that time mmm
❤️👍😊
Might be the Mandela effect - but I also remember a colour video of the same scene..?
Looks like he is carrying an M-16A1.
Reagan gave them
He loves the "and ummm"
