For all the users of the M3 that are annoyed that the camera shuts down when you hide the viewfinder. Just before you press down the viewfinder, press the power on/off button and it won't shutdown!
Audio in, but no headphones on the Ninja star. You do get headphone jack on the Ninja 2 tho. Both options are what I'd use for this RX100 m3 or the A6000. Ideally, of course I'd love an RX100 with the A6000's APSC sensor...if only those two cams could just get a room! ; )
Hello from Japan. What's the name of the 6:00 take? I want to take shoots like that of pics and video. Like persons or op jets in the back are blurred. And I like this camera and I want to go for it now but now I watched a video of the Sony nexus 5 and is almost the same price but is no too portable so my question is for better pictures and video, which should I buy it? Thanks I accept any recommendations
The big question is it better than the lumix gm1 in your opinion? I guess this is better than the gm1 for the compact size but the gm1 & *new panasonic leica 15mm will crush it in IQ.
Great video. Love the streeter and the out-takes. Taste test? That's new. Sound punks out at 7:19. Thanks for a good review. Might wait for the Mark IV and a hot-shoe!
Love your channel always some honest and great reviews. I'm looking to get a DSLR but my main used on of it will be video recording and with technology getting better and better every day it's hard to pick one, not to mention the 4K resolution.
Well anyone shooting 4k seriously with a GH4 or an A7s ain't just buying a camera. They'll need the Kodak dock for the GH4 and the Shogun for either of the cameras... no real, viable production option below, ironically, $4k ;)
Marc Morris Well that's a meaningless put down, and quite unnecessary. If you don't want to use the GH4 professionally as is then you don't have to of course. All the best with your future endeavours!
I've been using the RX100 II since it came out and I love it. While I would love to have a slightly faster lens, an EVF and a better video codec, I'm perfectly happy with my current camera. In fact, I think Sony is a bit cheeky in releasing this camera so soon after the previous model. They should have skipped the Version 2 and gone straight to this model. THAT BEING SAID . . . I'm happy to see the state of the art advanced, even if step-by-step.
Thanks Guys! I always looking for the small camera can take for any family trip and not worry about big bag of equipment, and you can really enjoy the family "time"
video bombed at 3:59! :p great review guys! :D keep it up! love the out takes and comedy you add in. everybody loves SSSSLLLLOOOWWW MMMOOO! looks like this is shaping to be a very worth upgrade to the previous rx100's. i need to start saving those pennies.
Hi guys, nice video. Just wondering how did you get the clean HDMI work on external recorder? Because I looked through the Sony web site. It said the clean HDMI is only for uncompressed video preview, its not for recording to external device?
Been killing myself for weeks mulling over jumping on the MK1 or spending double the amount for the MK3 here. I mostly plan on using it for video, vlogging mostly, and I feel like a lot of this camera's improvements, like the faster lens and EVF are features aimed for a much different user than myself. On the other hand though, the articulating display and WiFi are great additions I can see myself using. And the Bionz X may be worth it as well. I dunno, its tough. Dunno if anyone else here is using these for video, but if you have any input I'd be all ears. Regardless, you guys always do fantastic product spotlights, and this is no exception. Kudos.
I just got the RX100 III and I'm very impressed. However, I noticed that the EVF seems somewhat wobbly, moving left and right quite a bit. Have other users noticed this?
I wish my Fuji X20 had a 1 inch sensor. I almost thought about selling it for the RX100 MKIII...but I think I'm just going to buy a X100s instead..i'll lose the zoom range..but I love the primes on my DSLR..so X100s would be perfect for the type of photography I like to do. But I really hope other camera manufacturers follows Sony's footstep..they have really been doing a great job lately.
Mine is on order... but I have to say that leaving an external audio input out was a major blunder... but it simply means using my Zoom H6 for audio. Really solid review, 'boys!'
Great upgrade, however wish it still went out to 120mm, although it would be a bit larger I'm sure. Also pricing it a hundred bucks less would make this even better, and Sony would sell a lot more - which would to make up for it I bet.
Great video :D questions: 1- how quick does it write raw files before shutting down? I had freeze issues with the mk1 2- does the lens have magenta color casts on the corners? 3- did the stabilisation improve on the photography side? thank you :)
Planning to get myself an RX-100 but just not sure which version to get. Is it worth getting the mark III if I'm just using it overseas? Or will a Mark II or even Mark I be sufficient?
very nice presentation. I have a couple of questions for you : 1. coudl I use it for docunentary? if yes what about with the mic? shoulf i use and external one? is it easy to edit it later? (synchronisation). all the best, George
I need help with depth of field. That camera seems to be really good, or is it because you actually did the numbers to figure out the options? I have the canon powershot sx50hs and I just started learning how to use it, and I've watched many tutorials but still can't figure it out. Any help will be appreciated. :)
Love your reviews, Chris!! I bought the Canon S100 because of your review. I bought the Sony RX 100 M III for my friend a day ago. And I wonder if you can help me because when she flips the LCD monitor to take a selfie, the image is upside down. I tried to look online about this problem but no one seems to have this problem. Thanks in advance!
they forgot to mention one new feature that i think is very important to some ppl including myself, it's the the wider range of exposure bracketing. It was limited to +/- 2/3 of a stop on the previous models. Now it's +/- 3 stops!!
hopefully they have made some improvements with the dust seal on this one. i have had 2 different rx100m2s and i have had issues with dust on the sensor with both of them.
What's going on with the video quality of the Rx100? I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this in the comments. Problems in converting the video I'm guessing?
Great review However, it would have been awesome if you mentioned about the new 3axis stabilisation for stills and how many stops it it's good for.. this is kind of the deal-breaker as low light/low ISO is important for me
Great review! I liked it. I am looking for a good camera for super macro shots (like flowers, bugs, small toys / figurines), good bokeh in low light or night, distant city lights (like shooting NYC landscape), and very clear HD images like in portraits… my budget is under 700 dollars. Is this camera good for these purpuses? Thanks
Sony RX100 Mark III or a Sony a6000? i usually have a lazy lens on a6000.. and rarely change the lens.. i don't use the hotshoe... i am so confuse now...
SchneiderMan The Ricoh has no zoom at all. Is actually larger. And good luck getting any decent video out of it. The Ricoh still is 1 of the best street camera's though and will have better raw quality.
SchneiderMan adding to what BarnET0 said: the Ricoh will also be nowhere near as spontaneous, can't focus nearly as quickly in any light situation, doesn't have the stabilization capabilities nor the added interest of a high iso stacking mode that actually works, hdr on camera that doesn't require a tripod... on and on and on.. The Ricoh is a great camera for the purists but the RX series cameras are great for EVERYONE
First time ever I see you guys NOT buried in the ice! Despite the day is a kind of gray overcast (no sunshine), it looks a bit less depressing...Well, Canada is almost the North Pole anyways ha ha ha ha...and it is the best it can get in the summer.
How does it compare to the GM1? Partly based on your previous comparison between gm1 and rx100-2, I bought the GM1 a little while ago.. now we have the rx100-3! i tend to not bring extra lens with me when I pack the gm1 out......
I just bought the rx100 m3 , but after recorded the 100fps video, it played back at normal speed instead of the slow mo on my pc . what setting did you use to playback in slow mo. thank you ! (it has no slow mo playback capability in the camera as well)
You'll need to use editing software to play it back at 1/4 speed fr the slow mo look you see here. Most editing suites will give you the option. Jordan @ The Camera Store TV
Great vid on the whole, but to me the sound sync seemed noticeably off (watching on iPhone 5s over wifi BTW) the lack of audio is a non issue. This is a point and shoot, it's a B camera. When Atomos release the Ninja Star, you could have decent audio recording and broadcast video...just add a bracket to the bottom of the cam. Furthermore, the RX100 m3 looks ideal for slinging under a DJI aerial rig. Nice work Chris and Jordan...and Levi
Apparently the Panasonic rival (DMC LX100) was revealed today and is a hit at Photonika, with 4/3 sensor, 4K, etc. for about the same price. Chris, just wondering what your opinion of it is, if you have any other information. I didn't see any other specs really on the little review I saw.
Hey guys. Thanks for the review on this camera. It looks like a bloody good compact camera! I'm thinking of getting it when it's available but like an opinion(s) on this. My cousin's getting married in October and I want to make a short....."compilation" of the ceremony. I'm looking at the RX100m3 as a possible second camera for video mainly because of the 24mm/f1.8 at the wide end. I mainly shoot with a vg10 and have the 35mm/f1.8 and the kit 18-200mm. Would the RX100m3 be a good second camera for wide angle shots in low light? Or would a wide, fast lens do the trick? If its a lens, suggestions would be nice ^_^ Is the camera's maximum continuous shooting still 29min long? Or has it changed? 29min is perfectly fine for the shots I plan to do with this. Is working with the new XAVC S codec any different from AVCHD? If anyone has some opinions to share, it would be much appreciated.
I would've love to get some "new" informations here. For me it all sound the same: "great, awesome, best camera to buy" ... Some reviewers mentioned that the M3 is a bit softer than the M1/M2... Is it true Chris?
So I've been looking around and there's seems to be a consistent $150-200 increase in price for the RX100 III versus the older II. Can somebody please weigh in and say if they think the III is worth the price hike? Thank you very much!
i bought both the Mk1 and, later, the Mk2. Ended up adhering a hotshoe onto the mk1 for my viewfinders, havent touched the mk2 since. mk1 such a great camera, no need to bother with the updates
enjoying your videos keep them coming please, great work! Going to Disney and Universal in Florida later in the year and wanting a camera that will cover most events, ie low light, fireworks, night, landscape, character/family pics etc. Would you say the sony rx100 iii or the sony a6000 would be best option and if so, what lenses would you recommend if it was the A6000 in purchasing too. In the uk the RX100 iii can pickup for £570 UK£ and the A6000 comes in at £495 UK£ Also been looking at also at the following, canon 700d but don't want to carry such a large camera around all day for 2 weeks, Maybe the canon g7 or g3 or possibly one of the Panasonic compact models. Hope you have the time to reply and can help with my question/s. Thanks in advance.
Our Fuji X30 review mentions how it compares to the RX100 MKIII. The RX100 and X30 both outperform the Canon S120 in every regard I can think of, except cost. Jordan @ TCSTV
TheCameraStoreTV Thanks a lot Jordan for the reply and look forward to your review of the Lumix DMC-LX100 since it looks like it's game changer and worth the wait
Hot shoe for radio triggers = not only for Studio Shootings, also for outdoor shootings with external flash lights. That is the major problem I have with the M3 as well.
I want to get rid of the histogram and all of that info. I go to the gear icon DISP button, monitor, and mark no disp info, enter, and it continues to show. Annoying. HELP!
OK...so does this mean the RX100 III is better than the a6000 for videos? For taking pictures I presume the a6000 would be better, but I am not a camera expert so if you could let me know about that as well. I'm looking to buy one of theses cameras since they have the same price but my main focus is video quality. Feedback is appreciated.
Cody Vignal If you are thinking of buying more lenses in the future to further your photography skills then a6000 is a better option, but if you are only going to use the kit lens that comes with it, you are better off with RX100M3. It's much more pocketable and better or on-par image quality compared to a6000 with kit lens.
Interestingly, I bought an original RX100 and an NEX-6 (which may be similar to comparing an RX100 M3 to an a6000 now) at the same time, and did many videos and stills at the same settings, focal length, etc. I found the video on the NEX-6 to be a little sharper, and photos about the same. The RX100 has a Zeiss lens, but the NEX-6's kit lens was bigger, with a bigger sensor in the camera. They were so close, in fact, that I returned the NEX-6 for the more compact RX100, since I couldn't really afford both anyway!
Like you I am an avid angler. It's about time sony build a water proof and ruggedized body around the mk3. As well as a decent macro function. That'd be the most happening outdoor camera of the decade given the strong specs for stills and video.
For all the users of the M3 that are annoyed that the camera shuts down when you hide the viewfinder. Just before you press down the viewfinder, press the power on/off button and it won't shutdown!
i'm more fascinated on how well and confidently you recorded this in such a crowded public place
Haha his face at 5:24 when he sees the guy licking the camera! The face of anger!
Thanks for the great review! I'm really excited to get this camera and upgrade the video quality of my daily vlogs.
Bummer, it's doesn't have a mic input.
Damn, you're everywhere Dave. XD
Add an Atomos Ninja Star Dave. Get broadcast video and audio in, and monitoring.
Adam Loretz That is a great idea, I didn't know the Star had a mic input.
Audio in, but no headphones on the Ninja star. You do get headphone jack on the Ninja 2 tho. Both options are what I'd use for this RX100 m3 or the A6000. Ideally, of course I'd love an RX100 with the A6000's APSC sensor...if only those two cams could just get a room! ; )
I wish it had a mic input. Does it have a remote shutter port?
Great video.
Not just a great review, but good entertainment as well.
Chris & Jordan ROCK!
Thinking about getting this for my Machu Picchu trip next year. DSLR is not really an option b/c we are hiking in.
Hello from Japan. What's the name of the 6:00 take? I want to take shoots like that of pics and video. Like persons or op jets in the back are blurred. You know you want a GH4
orange42 or an A7s, frankly.
Marc Morris
Heaps of options if you can raise the price sure thing.
Well anyone shooting 4k seriously with a GH4 or an A7s ain't just buying a camera. They'll need the Kodak dock for the GH4 and the Shogun for either of the cameras... no real, viable production option below, ironically, $4k ;)

damn...
what a point of licking the EVF?!
could you do a full video comparaison between all video modes ??
it would really help thanks
I've been using the RX100 II since it came out and I love it. While I would love to have a slightly faster lens, an EVF and a better video codec, I'm perfectly happy with my current camera. Could you hand-on the Sony A77 mark II ? Thanks TCS
+1
and talk mostly about the focus system with real test.
yeah.. please do it TCS..
I'll wait for Chriss and Jordan.. They are the most fair reviewer on UA-cam.
Thank you anyway
Great Video! Thanks a lot. I made the request yesterday and got the video today.
Brillant!
Thanks Guys! I always looking for the small camera can take for any family trip and not worry about big bag of equipment, and you can really enjoy the family "time"
video bombed at 3:59! :p
great review guys! :D
keep it up! love the out takes and comedy you add in.
everybody loves SSSSLLLLOOOWWW MMMOOO!
looks like this is shaping to be a very worth upgrade to the previous rx100's.
i need to start saving those pennies.
Did you de-ionize that camera after the tonguing??
The pop-up viewfinder looks like a killer feature.
Such high enthusiasm is not seen often! Sony RX100 III - great camera, than. For what it's meant.
Nice video guys! As usual!
Hi guys, nice video. Just wondering how did you get the clean HDMI work on external recorder? Because I looked through the Sony web site. It said the clean HDMI is only for uncompressed video preview, its not for recording to external device?
Hello I want to ask?
What you choose... This Camera or sony alpha 6000?
Been killing myself for weeks mulling over jumping on the MK1 or spending double the amount for the MK3 here. I mostly plan on using it for video, vlogging mostly, and I feel like a lot of this camera's improvements, like the faster lens and EVF are features aimed for a much different user than myself.

I dunno, its tough. Dunno if anyone else here is using these for video, but if you have any input I'd be all ears.
Regardless, you guys always do fantastic product spotlights, and this is no exception. Kudos.
Articulating display is definitely a good reason to buy for your purposes of vlogging. I would get it.
Ugh decisions decisions, RX100M3 or the A6000 for backpacking?
A6000 is way better than any RX even now in 2019.
Yep, I'm pretty much sold on this. It's definitely time to upgrade. Thanks for the video, TCS!
What's the name of the song that starts playing at 6:24?
I just got the RX100 III and I'm very impressed. However, I noticed that the EVF seems somewhat wobbly, moving left and right quite a bit. Have other users noticed this?

Why would anyone want to lick viewfinder on the camera?! That was weird...Camera is great btw
yup, that weird stranger who licked it even wanted to take the camera away
Thanks for the good review, but why no shots taken @ f1.8? I have heard shots taken at 1.8 are quite soft. Would love to see.
This sealed the deal. Confirmed what I was hoping for. Thx.
Mine is on order... but I have to say that leaving an external audio input out was a major blunder... but it simply means using my Zoom H6 for audio.
Really solid review, 'boys!'
5:52 full sensor read out? What does it mean?
Chris dident look impressed , when they guy licked the view finder
he is quite annoying, the guy who licked the viewfinder. he even tried to take it away
who would be?
Nice camera,an external mic input and hot shoe would finish it off for me.
Discreet photojournalism tool the mark IIII will be?
Great upgrade, however wish it still went out to 120mm, although it would be a bit larger I'm sure. Also pricing it a hundred bucks less would make this even better, and Sony would sell a lot more - which would to make up for it I bet.
What about this compared with new sony a5100? Which you think is better?
Jordon do you like the colors out of the GH4 or Sony FS700 better?
Great video :D
questions:
1- how quick does it write raw files before shutting down? I had freeze issues with the mk1
2- does the lens have magenta color casts on the corners?
3- did the stabilisation improve on the photography side?
thank you :)
Planning to get myself an RX-100 but just not sure which version to get. Is it worth getting the mark III if I'm just using it overseas? Or will a Mark II or even Mark I be sufficient?
7:10 that stabilisation is really not like a steadycam in 2023 😂
Is the Panasonic FZ1000 review coming soon?
Because you asked...
Panasonic FZ1000 Hands-On Field Test
very nice presentation. I have a couple of questions for you : 1. coudl I use it for docunentary? if yes what about with the mic? shoulf i use and external one? is it easy to edit it later? (synchronisation). all the best, George
Is the high bitrate sony codec better quality than the gm1-has it surpassed the gm1 as a better overall buy?
I need help with depth of field. That camera seems to be really good, or is it because you actually did the numbers to figure out the options? I have the canon powershot sx50hs and I just started learning how to use it, and I've watched many tutorials but still can't figure it out. Any help will be appreciated. :)
Love your reviews, Chris!! I bought the Canon S100 because of your review. I bought the Sony RX 100 M III for my friend a day ago. And I wonder if you can help me because when she flips the LCD monitor to take a selfie, the image is upside down. I tried to look online about this problem but no one seems to have this problem. they forgot to mention one new feature that i think is very important to some ppl including myself, it's the the wider range of exposure bracketing. It was limited to +/- 2/3 of a stop on the previous models. Now it's +/- 3 stops!!
hopefully they have made some improvements with the dust seal on this one. i have had 2 different rx100m2s and i have had issues with dust on the sensor with both of them.

Interesting Ted yes I commented it too, it´s so bad oO
Amazing review. Possibly the best camera review ever. Was the GH4 used for the review?
Yes, this was filmed on a pair of GH4s.
The GH4 output at 1080p looks a little soft to me
I hope the advance codec makes it into there other camera
Got mine yesterday and I already love it!!
what memory card do you suggest for doing both still and video?
Great review
However, it would have been awesome if you mentioned about the new 3axis stabilisation for stills and how many stops it it's good for..
this is kind of the deal-breaker as low light/low ISO is important for me
Great review! I liked it. I am looking for a good camera for super macro shots (like flowers, bugs, small toys / figurines),
good bokeh in low light or night, distant city lights (like shooting NYC landscape),
and very clear HD images like in portraits… my budget is under 700 dollars. Is this camera good for these purpuses? Thanks
for sure
Sony RX100 Mark III or a Sony a6000?
i usually have a lazy lens on a6000.. and rarely change the lens..
i don't use the hotshoe...
i am so confuse now...
Well made little camera and it seems nice, but I still prefer the fujifilm x100s image quality. What do you think.
I'm pretty sure the Ricoh GR also has better IQ and is similarly priced and even more compact.
SchneiderMan
The Ricoh has no zoom at all.
Is actually larger.
And good luck getting any decent video out of it.
The Ricoh still is 1 of the best street camera's though and will have better raw quality.

Yeah and I prefer D800e over the Fuji x100s! *facepalm*
ronaldov09 the d800e is not a csc! It's not comparable. But, is a great camera, no doubt on that.
Love the outtakes at the end!
First time ever I see you guys NOT buried in the ice! Despite the day is a kind of gray overcast (no sunshine), it looks a bit less depressing...Well, Canada is almost the North Pole anyways ha ha ha ha...and it is the best it can get in the summer.
hi, can I use SDHC memory card in this camera? Ill buy the camera on monday, but Im not sure if i can you this memory card besides memory stick duo
How does it compare to the GM1? Partly based on your previous comparison between gm1 and rx100-2, I bought the GM1 a little while ago.. now we have the rx100-3! i tend to not bring extra lens with me when I pack the gm1 out......
No one?
the price drop when a stranger licking your pricey cam haha...
Chris, you forgot the 180 degrees rotation LCD for top notch selfie!
Hi ,
do you have any idea about Samsung NX mini ?? i am looking forward for your reply.
Nice review . What do u recommend ? a5100 or rx 3?
What would you buy a Sony RX100 M3 or Sony A6000?
Is it already available to buy?
Great vid on the whole, but to me the sound sync seemed noticeably off (watching on iPhone 5s over wifi BTW) the lack of audio is a non issue. This is a point and shoot, it's a B camera. Hey guys. Thanks for the review on this camera. It looks like a bloody good compact camera!
I'm thinking of getting it when it's available but like an opinion(s) on this.

Ok RX100 Mk3 or X100T?? what would you recommend
So I've been looking around and there's seems to be a consistent $150-200 increase in price for the RX100 III versus the older II. Can somebody please weigh in and say if they think the III is worth the price hike? Thank you very much!
"Doesn't even taste good", i just bursted into laughter in the library
Wishful thinking but it'd be awesome if Sony somehow opened up the USB port for a USB audio input solution....? But I'm not holding my breath....
PLEASE CAN I KNOW BETWEEN THE RX1000 III AND THE CANON D70 WHICH ONE IS MORE BETTER
i bought both the Mk1 and, later, the Mk2. Ended up adhering a hotshoe onto the mk1 for my viewfinders, havent touched the mk2 since. mk1 such a great camera, no need to bother with the updates
Excellent Video. How do you record your audio? It's amazing!
6:30 i think that song in the background is called tian mi mi
would this be a justifiable upgrade from HX90V? I also have A6000
enjoying your videos keep them coming please, great work!

In the uk the RX100 iii can pickup for £570 UK£ and the A6000 comes in at £495 UK£
Also been looking at also at the following, canon 700d but don't want to carry such a large camera around all day for 2 weeks,
Maybe the canon g7 or g3 or possibly one of the Panasonic compact models.
Hope you have the time to reply and can help with my question/s. Thanks in advance.
What compact camera is best for you?
Thanks Chris and Jordan for yet another great review and video. I was wondering if you could compare this to the Fuji X30 and Canon S120. Thanks
Our Fuji X30 review mentions how it compares to the RX100 MKIII. The RX100 and X30 both outperform the Canon S120 in every regard I can think of, except cost.

But why do they Never put a mic in into the body???!!
Thanks, nice informative video and great to see some examples of what the camera is capable of. I'll be buying.
Hi, thoughts on rx100 m3 and nex7?
What's a good DSLR in the same price range of this camera?
Hi! Going to NY soon and can't choose between the Sony RX100 M3 or the Sony A6000. Which is preferable for trips?
Better go with RX100M3 for trips.
+Usama Gharade Thank you!
What camera did you use to record this video?
Love these guys. Asian dude is knowledgeable and entertaining.
Great review!
I'm thinking of taking this one with me to Australia & New Zealand later this year.
I want to get rid of the histogram and all of that info. I go to the gear icon DISP button, monitor, and mark no disp info, enter, and it continues to show. Annoying. HELP!
Was the new guy "filming" this? Some shots look out of focus. Doesn't take away from the episode you guys are great!
That was me. But it was only out of focus because I was busy telling Levi to make sure it was in focus.

The irony. lol Love the show! Keep it up. :D
