Fighters are generally meant to take the brunt of damage and give it right back, so they typically have to be walking slabs of flexible muscle guarded by a shit ton of metal. In D&D I prefer barbarians and monks because they don't need armor for good protection. Admittedly my ES skills are lacking, but that's because I haven't taken the time to really get into it. There's so much lore and my head is already filled with a shit tone of lore from D&D, LotR, the Honorverse, etc. I am a sucker for rich lore so I have to really be ready to dedicate time to learning it. And I was ready...then Baldur's Gate 3 dropped in early access.

Fighters don't need spell slots. I've always maintained three things with D&D: 1. Fighter is a good starting class for new players. 2. Fighters are even more important in late game play because of the level of damage enemies can deal in one hit. 3. A well build Fighter is more important than a caster (with the exception being Life Domain Clerics) when assembling a party.

I like to think that the knight got so into he that he forgot about the script only to realize he needed to throw the fight at the end.
