This is my favourite version of this track. The intro goes right into my soul...

I wish this video appear at the top everytime I search John Mayer crossroads on youtube, I mean the studio version is ok, but this thing bro, THIS THING IS SO FUCKING AWESOME!
I really don't know who are the 3, I won't say stupid but people who don't know much about music, that clicked the dislike button here! Have you even watched the video?! It's absolutely music as it should be! My goodness.....
Geez this guy can play...I love it how he just jams with the band before he really gets to playing the song..its such a build up he's such a complete package..!!!!
That intro has "Got To Get Better In A Little While" by Clapton/The Dominos written all over it. Awesome sauce. Love the tone and the groove. Sounds to me like he is taking Eric's most recent incarnations of "Crossroads" and building on it with his own.
It wouldn't matter, a tab wouldn't help you get his right hand technique right with all those mutes and slaps. I've yet to see someone do a decent cover of a JM tune that has those slaps in it
Hello how are you ? Greetings from Rosario, Argentina. The City of Messi. Can any guitarist tell me what type of saturation Mayer is using in this song? I mean if it's Gain amplifier, Overdrive Pedals, Distortion, Fuzz or combinations. I await an answer Very thankful .
Try put your gain way to the top bring all your tone down ( both for strat ) and put the volume at the lowest... just before the string cant ring and adjust the volume of your amps where your neighbour let you live the dream
I completely disagree...so many hacks and such use Crossroads as a reason to solo in the pentatonic, this actually makes it groovy and a SONG again...not just something to noodle over. I know what you are saying about Battle Studies, but after watching a couple interviews with John about it I think I understand it more as an album. I can't say the songs aren't catchy or well written, that;s for sure. They stick in your head for a long time.
It still bothers me to this day that the audience is so off beat on the claps at the beginning. I feel like Steve came in just because the audience was throwing off the whole thing. Ha
Definitely wasn't the most "on" performance. It got better by this point in the evening, but the first couple numbers didn't feel groovy. Everyone has their weird "off" moments, and this show was definitely one of them. Something about the tone of the band as a whole is just really strange....sounds almost empty in a way....still amazing though. That's what being a pro is all about. Even when you don't really FEEL like coming into the office, you still gotta bite the bullet and go to work.
Love the song and his version of it. But this song, is a lot better sung by a more powerful voice, witg a little more "desperate screaming" in it. A la Eric Clapton's version. John Mayer's voice is too airy and soft. At least in this performance
Guitar chops like that would make anyone else but John Mayer unanimously respected.
Love the sound of an extremely pushed amp set loud but played with soft finesse. This blokes a master at it.
That groove at the beginning
That impeccable groove though
This is my favourite version of this track.

This could have lasted for half an hour and I still wouldn't be bored. God DAMN that band is good
First off, that intro was insane. Second, so glad he's bringing the blues to bigger audience. And best of all: they're enjoying it!
STEVE JORDAN AND JOHN MAYER TOGETHER IS BETHER THAN... WELL, EVERYTHING.
He's a beast on the legato technique ! FUCK !
I love his faces! XD JOHN MAYER ROCKS!
WOW!! this is an amazing version... its a nice big fat fresh way to keep the blues going too!!
Very much agreed! This guy has an insane pocket!
Aaaaa the introoooo!!!! Sick!
I really don't know who are the 3, I won't say stupid but people who don't know much about music, that clicked the dislike button here!

My goodness.....
Robbie looks soo cool with the shades :D
3:47 is textbook. Robbie comes in like a monster on this song.

been a fan since inside wants out. STILL SOLID.
assasin is so good. :)
this is so kickass!
amazing as always
John is so ridiculous, why didn't he just make an original song out of that intro, sounds so good and he could actually claim it as his own.
That intro has "Got To Get Better In A Little While" by Clapton/The Dominos written all over it. Awesome sauce. Love the tone and the groove. Sounds to me like he is taking Eric's most recent incarnations of "Crossroads" and building on it with his own.
the tone of his guitar is so unusuall...
eargasm.
Skills!
Way better than the studio recording.
This rendition should have been on the new cd. It's much better.
definitely
@tomasterrizzano they are recording the JM3 concert in vegas or san diego christmas eve. look for a new live album from them next year
props to the guy in the white shirt standing and clapping in the corner at 0:47
Insane drums at 4:18
omg this hair cut on him
i know , it's fucking awesome man!
@syn15 YEAH. SO FUNKY
fucking great!!
You should listen to edge of desire again. despite the name its actually quite good
I respect Clapton and SRV! But they got nothing on JM. He's evolved into a total beast.
Possibly a bit of an exaggeration, Mayer isnt as iconic as either, but he is my favourite player of all time. Him Hendrix and Clapton. In that order
it just looks soooooooooooo eeassyyyy. how long did this boy lock hisself up in his room to learn all this??!!?!
you cant compare the two solos. one is played fingerstyle the other is a slide guitar solo, two completely different things
It wouldn't matter, a tab wouldn't help you get his right hand technique right with all those mutes and slaps. I've yet to see someone do a decent cover of a JM tune that has those slaps in it
@HalfBillion It's a Pete Cornish NG2 and runs about $695
Drummer = badass.

Check out ua-cam.com/video/aIslBlTkdWk/v-deo.html
Mayer talks about effects and techniques used here.
@hypershadow647 He knows the lyrics.
...and the second guitarist is playing a german Düsenberg guitar! :)
@thestratmanny John likes his watches... :)
@mytitswillwork im pretty sure he uses a hendrix fuzz pedal with a boss delay through a Two Rock guitar amp.
robbie mcintosh is so cool in this vid :D
Haha, the audience clapping off-beat in the intro... I would get messed up by that. Not that I could play this to begin with ;)
blues messiah
@the2menis1 hey thx! ; )
@bramzel95 dude me too!
@PippoBlues93 Robbie McIntosh always is cool.
werent these videos originally an hour or so long in one video??
@dbaerg Did we watch the same video?
Steve Jordan doesn't play with anybody, you know.
the intro is johns remix of watch?v=OJNSvmNs2wI&feature=related
:)
@NewMusicSpacequake make it up like he did...
Is this a fuzz effect?
does anyone know wat effect did he use at the beginng jam ?
Thanks ! : )

When will people (women?) learn to applaud and wail AFTER a song, not right through the effort of everyone who's on stage.

And don't forget Robbie McIntosh.
These people are way too mellow......get with it!!!!
what the hell was with the teleprompter?
the song was 5-8 bpms slower
@thestratmanny
@GoingCamando20 God gave you ears, use it well ;)
(y)
Why did he decide to use so much fuzz...
It still bothers me to this day that the audience is so off beat on the claps at the beginning. I feel like Steve came in just because the audience was throwing off the whole thing. Ha
@fenderdude137 eric clapton
yeah pete cornish fuzz
sounds fuzzy
yep, better than him messing up :)
@mytitswillwork Cornish NG-2

@PhunkyFreshBeetz
Do you know me. YAWN. actually when I say this is the 2nd worse, its still really good, just not as good as the original
2nd worse song on the album, best song he plays live
wow this is so embarrassing, those girls in the audience must have come from the ellen show.
@johnmayerfan1989 I dont want to piss anybody off, but ive been saying this for years,,,,eric clapton is one of the most overrated guitarist ever....
no, he's just trying to be jeff beck, the only guitar player better than john mayer!
