- What makes an emerald an emerald and not an aquamarine? Gem-A tutor, Lily Faber FGA DGA, presents this webinar on gemstone species and varieties, providing an overview of the well-known groups beryl, corundum, garnet and quartz. This webinar also covers:
- Chemical Composition
- Inclusions
- Causes of Colour
- Optical Effects
This webinar was created as part of a weekly series of webinars known as Gem-A Live.
This video has completely changed my perspective on inclusions. I always saw them as flaws, but now, I appreciate them so much more for what they tell you and see they can actually make the stone much more desirable and beautiful. Thank you!!
I was roped in for this entire lecture. Thank you for making this information so interesting and digestible!!
Such a condensed lecture. I'm a gemologist and totally agree this will be very useful for people trying to get their feet under the table on gemstones.
This was interesting and informative ,Lily. I've been looking for such a video on UA-cam, to learn more about Gems, their Types, formation and composition. Thanks for sharing.

This has been a most informative video .💐 Thank you , ❤️ again .
Namaste 🙏❤️🙏👍🙂
This would have been an extremely useful presentation to watch when first learning i had such a passion for gemology and geology...!
Awesome thank you for being so clear on what is what with these gemstones! I am a complete newbie, which will become more obvious as I open my mouth,I'm sure. So apologies in advance! The information can be varied, depending on the source,I'm discovering! So thank you for this instruction that holds to consistent standards. You have taught me more in the course of this video than I was able to glean from multiple books! Also it was great to hear the names of stones and their variations pronounced correctly. As I have only been learning from books up to this point, and I have discovered that pronouncing these mineral names does not come naturally to me! Lol! Certainly, without doubt, you have saved me from ridicule, going forward. I can just imagine the embarrassment I would have faced,if I had referred to a cabochon as a caw-bo-chawn!! I shudder! So thank you, sincerely!
Great job. Thanks!

Fyi: Looks like a good video but the sound for me today is so far out of sync with the slides it is impossible to watch. Started it several times and tried to see if it would correct itself further in but no luck.
