Marx guy here, the axle cover is called a Channel Cover on Flyer boxcar. A $1.00 Marx loc., I love it. Anker that paint box with a brick on a salad foundation.
I’m going to make a bigger paint box that actually will have a fan and a filter in it. Normally where I do my painting there isn’t any wind and it was just me being dumb.
Had a whistle that worked but no sound. I discovered that bugs had made a web nest in the air tubes of the sound box. I took some card stock - like a 3 x 5 file card and cut a piece wide enough to push into the air slots. I worked that is and out and finally got the nest removed and the whistle worked. try it good videos. and keep on trucking.
The covers on the side of the car trucks are called Journal boxes. they come in brass, nickel and black. The rods that go from wheel to wheel of a loco are called Side rods. The one that goes into the steam chest are called drive rods. and the little assembly that go from the rear wheel into the steem chest are called eccentric rods. I can send you a diagram of these part names if you put your email on here.
Derek, Benz Trainz did a video a couple years ago about putting a Marx 666 smoking motor into a Commodore Vanderbilt body. The 1666 & 666 used the same motor so the procedure should be the same. Here is the link to the video.ua-cam.com/video/HLupf8oDUYk/v-deo.htmlsi=u4bqaVHiQgBUc4US P.S. I had good results making a replacement C.V. headlight visor out of a sharpie marker and epoxying it to the front.
@@johnknippenberg-LandmarkYards Ben is still into model trains. He just had to take some time off from making videos last year due to moving and some health issues. But he hopes to be shooting new videos soon.
Cool American Flyer steam engine, glad you were able to get it back in service.
Nice. You really can't kill those old units. A little cleaning and some lube and they are just fine. An excellent video, as always.
