Thanks for checking out my channel.
I am in no way an expert on this hobby. As a matter of fact I’m very new to it, started in the summer of 2021. Join me in my journey of what to do and probably more often what not to do when it comes to building my layout and repairing my trains and accessories
I’m not one of these guys that has tons of money to throw at my hobby and you’ll see that I do things as least expensive as possible.
I’m always open for your suggestions and comments
Hopefully you’ll find this channel entertaining and maybe even at some point informative

can you daisy chain any of the type of blocks. great info
I’m not an electrician, but I don’t see why not. I would imagine you’ll have a slight drop of power the further you go. Using a little bit of a heavier gauge wire in between the blocks would definitely help.
Good evening, what is the name of the plugs. And where can I find them. Cool looking car!
Hello, thanks for watching my video. I can’t remember what they actually called but they’re just wire connectors and you can pick them up at any hardware store. There’s a lot of different styles that you can choose from. I just happen to use those.
emailing you from my Twohandsinthedirt email about the trellis :)
Great tip on making trees.
Hi, could you put up a drawing like you did for the tubular track video. I'm trying to duplicate the running of two trolleys on the same track, but they keep stopping at the isolation track instead of running to the stop track and obviously I'm doing something wrong with the track connections - thanks in advace
I’m currently out of town, but I’ll try to get to it this weekend for you. Are you trying to do this with Fastrack?
@@Pvilletrains yes
ok I over thought this, but I got it to work. Thanks for this and your other video which got me going on this
@Dino-oc8wg I’m glad to hear you got it figured out.
Nice! That AF locomotive has a pin in the cab, where the tender draw bar attaches to. I don't own any, but I have some friends who have pre-war AF and that is the case on a number of their engines.
Great video, I like the demonstration of running the engines.
I was born & raised in Pawpaw Illinois, love your videos! 🫶🫶🚂🚂
Marx guy here, with all this stock you`ll have to convert the garage into a warehouse. Most of all, " DON`T OVERLOOK THE JUNK".
I love the junk!
You're welcn always enjoy your videos
Would you be interested in selling the atlas switches and track?
Yes. But after closer inspection the switches are atlas , 4 right and 3 left , there are only 2 pieces of atlas track 1 straight and 1 curve. The rest are k-line. There is also an uncoupler that is new, a switch activator and a bag of asst parts. I’m not sure of the radius on the switches but they all look to be the same. To be 100% honest, I’m not sure of what these switches go for other than what I’m seeing sold on eBay But I am open to a fair offer
If you give me your zip code I can let you know about how much the shipping cost would be
If your definitely interested email me Papavilletrains@outlook.com
I can also send better pictures via email if you’d like

Planning on going to the train and farm toy show in Princeton IL next Saturday. Hope to come away with a decent hall if the prices are good
Is that on Saturday or Sunday?
@Pvilletrains Saturday the 9th
@ yesterday?
@@Pvilletrains oops no I got my days mixed up it's the 16th
Saturday Nov. 16th Bureau Co. Fair Grounds, 811 W. Peru st Princeton IL. 5$ cover
Any suggestions on how to this with Lionel Fastrack?
Same best idea the biggest problem is Fastrak only comes on certain sizes so what you would probably want to do is buy an adapter track that would change over to tubular just for your bridge. If you have a Menards in your area, they sell a transition track rather cheap And what’s nice about that one you can cut it to size but there is also one available from Lionel The Lionel one is a 5 inch section that has fast track connection on one side tubular on the other. The Menards is the same same with fast track connection on one side tubular on the other.
@@Pvilletrains Thank you
Just wanted to say Kudos to you for helping out Terry and his nephew!! Great job, and great idea from Terry to make a dummy loco, I am going to do that myself. I love to see folks helping each other, well done and God Bless!!
Thank you very much. If we can’t help each other out, we shouldn’t be doing this.
Unfortunately, Chicagoland Hobby has closed down...A major blow to the Chicagoland hobby community.
I agree, I miss that place a lot. Fortunately I live about 2 miles from America’s best train and hobby in Itasca.
Pickups are probably available at The Train Tender website
A good haul. The prewar equipment is in fairly good condition considering the age. The 1024 switch crosses the years. It was prewar 1935-1942 and then picked up again in 1946 - 1952. The RCS track is pre 1950. It would have been nice to get the 2460 crane. I have one from my dad's collection that he got in 1947.
Those pickups are cheap and meant to be replaced. Since you live near Wheaton, go to see Tony at America s Best Toys and Trains on Irving Park Road in Itasca , he’ll have them in stock and show you how to put them on. Probably not more than a couple of dollars for a pair!
Thanks, I’ll do that. I live right down the street from there.
The lock on works with standard gauge track or O gauge track
You have a great you tube show. It was nice to meet you at the great midwest train show. You showed me the video of your newly painted engine taking a tumble.
It was great to meet you too!
That is a nice, little haul. The 1666 is nice. They sure moved along with that mechanism and casting, over the years. An excellent video, as always.
Hennings Trains has old parts
Plunkersylvanians are all out campaigning this here weekend, like good garage men.
I’m not sure why, but they gave me a good chuckle
Question - do you stay on the same negative side as you work around the track or switch sides?
See you at Wheaton train show on Sunday ???
Yes, I’ll be there, but I won’t be in the same location as last time I will be further down the aisle a little bit closer to The middle of the room
Marx guy here, great job on rebuilding. In dismantling I put all small parts in a bowl of alcohol to soke clean, plus I`m less likely to loose parts.
your light up FastTrak still available? Also the Erie Alco Engine/Dum?
The beacon sold. I honestly don’t remember if I sold the Fastrack. I’m currently working out of town and will check on Saturday Send me a email Papavilletrains@outlook.com as a reminder And I’ll get back to you once I’m home
Alco has been sold. I still have the fastrack. I have a UP 2023 silver ALCO and dummy that I’m thinking about taking to the next show, nov 3rd
It is amazing to see the progress you are making on the Commodore Vanderbuilt. It's going to be something to see when it is done.
I currently have the fastrack plug and play using the wall plug in terminal. I am looking to extend my track to about 35 ft this year for our xmas village. Am I able to add an additional plug in terminal putting them at far ends of extended track? Any advice helps. Thank you so much!!
I’m not 100% sure. Here’s a link to a train forum that may help. It’s explaines options . I think using a 72watt plug with wire leads about every 10 feet would do the trick . But in what I read just plugging in 2 “wall warts” didn’t seem like a good idea I got rid of all my Fastrack and switched to Tubular www.modeltrainforum.com/threads/power-supply.67722/ Here’s a link to how I wired my tubular track which will also work with Fastrack ua-cam.com/video/dWnrWq6TlN8/v-deo.htmlsi=SZf-Pt9XVQJH3HWr I hope this helps
@@Pvilletrains Yes, went ahead and bout the 72 watt. And yes I think it's finally time to learn to solder. :) I will try to keep as many pieces wired together as I can, but since its a temporary track with mostly large pieces that will need to get boxed up, is soldering very easy to reverse and remove the wire? Also, last question....Is there any particular "type" of wire that should be used. Sorry first time diving into this. Thank you so much!!
I also watched a video of very slightly pinching the tubes with pliers to promote best connection. So might try that with the non-wired pieces.
I used 18 gauge wire. And yes it is very easy to remove the wire once soldered, just heat it up and remove the wires. Also next time you set it up it will be much easier to solder them back together because you’ll already have solder on there so you’ll just heat it up again and reattach the wire again
@cooljz82 that helps, on straight tracks you can also very slightly bend the tabs for s better connection .
May we now call you Mr. C/V?
Sure, that or “The Commodore” 🤣
With a little love, they should look great. You never know what you might get. Last locomotive I purchased, Lionel 726RR, was sold as is and had not been tested until it arrived at the house. It had a ring of fire on the commutator. A little cleaning solved all the problems. It had a lot of oil on the armature and everywhere else on the motor and frame. Now it runs fine.
They will all look great when finished
Such a fun layout with so many levels of play which make for the most train activity I’ve ever seen within such a small footprint. I’m currently working on my sixth layout which is likely to be my last however due to it being 27’x9’ it will have options for expandability on par with elastic waist gym pants. I love seeing other people’s layouts and drawing from them. I just wish there were more O gaugers or even a club where I am in Birmingham Alabama. Thanks for sharing yours and back to the benchwork for me.
Good score
I had same problem you described with “faster trolley “ outrunning the stop track. Tried using longer sections of track without success. Would you please provide a diagram of how to correct the problem? Thx.
I just ran a longer track and ran the trolleys a little bit slower
What a fantastic haul! Very impressive!👍
Marx guy here, Dittos on the pickup spring. Give that shell a good 48 hr. white vintager treatment. The finished painted looks better without the C/V labels.
I have a sand blasting cabinet so I’ll blast it and then repaint
I really liked the MPC era. I started with postwar as a kid, did college and law school and got back into Lionel in the 70's then as an adult. I never looked back. Great stuff!
J & B stands for Justerini & Brooks
I will suggest you take everything out of the boxes lay them out on the table prior to filming video. I have absolutely no interest in cardboard boxes. New acquired trains may be exciting for you but seeing mostly boxes turns me off..
Thank You for sharing your finds👍👍
A fine haul, for sure. I like the 75th Anniversary set. It certainly looks pristine. The billboard reefers are sweet. A nice find, all the way around. An excellent video, as always.
Excellent repair job, Derek. However, when you removed the pick up shoe it looked like your missing the small spring that goes under it. It sits on the center post and allows the shoe to move up and down while the engine is running. If you don't have a spare one a small piece of sponge will work as a substitute until you get a new spring.
I noticed that it was missing, thanks for the sponge suggestion
@@Pvilletrains I really can't take credit for it. I got the idea from BenzTrainz. I may have a spare spring in my parts bin. If you want it send me an email.
@terrysogaugetrains I’m at my sons house now watching the Bears game but when I get home I’ll check to see if I have one but if I need one I’ll definitely let you know
Didn’t have a spring so I decided to make one. Took a spring out of an ink pen, stretched it out and made the diameter larger so it would fit over the pin. Then I cut it to size and recompress it in my vice to give it “spring “. Works great! And now I’ve got extra springs for the future
@@Pvilletrains That's using your inner MacGyver! I used a pen spring to replace a missing brush spring on an early Marx motor that used tubular brushes. Worked like a charm.
Really nice haul. And a nice change from some of the "junk" you usually bring home. I know, one man's junk is another man's treasure.
this is great thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for mentioning me in the video. I'm so glad the the train ran for you. I really thought that the train was not going to run. Can t wait to see it finished.
No no. Thank you. The least I could do is give you a shout out. I’m currently, literally, currently in the process of replacing the wires from the motor to the light. I’ve got your email so I’ll send you short videos of the restoration
Here’s the link to the latest repair Marx O Gauge wire replacement from pick up to light ua-cam.com/video/CV7ZtEAXEs8/v-deo.html
Marx guy here, Being a junk train guy, I`d value that track cleaner the most. Were these purchases "FIDO" approved?
Yup I “threw him a bone”.
Nice haul and a great background.
