My train room is also a mess. It seems to happen in the summer. I live about two hours from Wheaton and have been attending that show for 43 years. To my dismay, it’s gotten smaller. Even though I’m not really a marks I enjoy your videos. I worked for the Railroad as an engineer many young guys came up to me with their grandpa’s or great grandpa’s box of trains and wanted me tohave them. Because their family saw no value in the old trains. I took them with a promise if they ever want them back all I had to do was ask. I have a box set from sometime in the 30s someone didn’t get to play with it I would like to send you a picture of it, but I don’t know how to do that through UA-cam. About the show I go in November or December I hope to see you there sometime. There used to be a man that had a booth in the second building. They had marks Train parts and repaired some engines. Do you know if he’s still there? Thank you for your videos Train season will arrive shortly

Sorry you didn't make it to see the Big Boy. I waited in traffic on Intermodal Drive for 3.5 hours and finally got in at 3:15. They did stay open later than 3 to allow some of the overflow into the parking lot. I left the Wheaton train show early to get there. The train show was not well attended by vendors, there were a lot of empty tables, so you didn't miss much. I believe that the next couple of months will be better at the Wheaton show, since the holidays are approaching. I have some photos and video, but I don't know how to upload them here. Maybe I'll try to email them later.

Hey Derek, the diecast 1666 steam boiler shell is from a Lionel model. It's the same shell as the early 2026. It is a model of a prairie type steam engine. It came with a 2-6-2 motor assembly. The 1666 differed from the 2026 in that the 1666 did not have a smoke unit. Marx also made a 1666 steam engine, but they had a plastic boiler shell. The early 40's version of the 2026 differs from the 50's version in that it had wire hand rails, a complete set of valve gear, and nickle rimmed drivers. They both came with a smoke unit. The early 2026 is a much nicer engine. It also came with a cam and fulcrum designed puffing mechanism that I haven't seen in any other Lionel steam engines that works much better than the typical piston crank assembly found in most of the postwar steam engines. The early 2026 motor assembly with the smoke unit might fit the 1666 bolier shell. I don't have the 1666 to know for sure because I collected the 2026 because it's the same engine as the 1666 with a smoke unit. Lionel made several similar engine types with a 2-6-2 motor assembly that might interchange. The 2026 and 2037 are also a very similar motor assembly to the 1666. The C&NW NW-2 switcher is a nice model. Even at $50 it's a good deal if everything works. Any of the early Marx all metal #1090 automatic switches are great switches. I used them on my main lines, shimed to work with my Menards 0-gague tubular track. They are easy to adapt without opening them up. I like that they are designed to only work from auxiliary transformer power. It was easy to wire mine using lionel controllers, and I added insulated track sections and wired them for auto non-derail. Just don't park anything with metal wheels and axels on the live insulated rail sections as the coils will burn out. The frogless design is the smoothest transitioning switches I found and they work with all fat geared wheeled designed engines. I added 3 0-27 metal track pins in the center of hot rail sections to fill the gap sections for the roller type pickups. The automatic switches are not meant to be operated by hand. They are designed to lock in place at the end of the throw in each direction to prevent derailments. Its not a good idea to force them. If you tilt them around or upside down sometimes, the catch will disengage. If you pry the red cover off, you will see how they function internally.

I’m running an 8x8 train layout with two loops and classic Tmcc, I’m experiencing voltage drops on certain areas of my layout, I’ve already tightened pins and added feeder wires. What type of wires can I use for my layout so I can evenly distribute the power to each part of my layout? My feeders are 18 gauge serrated wires.

The covers on the side of the car trucks are called Journal boxes. they come in brass, nickel and black. The rods that go from wheel to wheel of a loco are called Side rods. The one that goes into the steam chest are called drive rods. and the little assembly that go from the rear wheel into the steem chest are called eccentric rods. I can send you a diagram of these part names if you put your email on here.

Had a whistle that worked but no sound. I discovered that bugs had made a web nest in the air tubes of the sound box. I took some card stock - like a 3 x 5 file card and cut a piece wide enough to push into the air slots. I worked that is and out and finally got the nest removed and the whistle worked. try it good videos. and keep on trucking.

Thanks for the video. If I am going to run both legacy and TIU, would the plug in terminal block be optimal using the “star” wiring technique to the track? Would that require connecting each positive with a short stubby wire like the first example? Or just keep it simple and go with the first example? (Just get two separate terminals for positive and negative and configure it the way you have it?

My guess is that those Marx cars with the unpainted frames, as well as the unpainted turnout and track pieces were originally painted and someone either removed the paint by de-rusting the pieces in white vinegar or sand blasted them for restoration.

Hey Derek, That wind up Commodore Vanderbilt has a reversing motor in it. You can tell by the little bend in the top of the lever and the square metal piece with the round hole in it on the bottom of the motor. Pushing the lever all the way straight down makes the train go fwd. Pulling the lever all the way straight up makes it go in reverse. The middle position is neutral for winding the motor up. Have fun.

Very nice! That is a good haul, for sure. The bridge is nice and the diesel horn stations are sweet. Those freight cars from the 999 set are in good shape, other than the wheels, which should clean-up pretty nicely. It is good that all of the locomotives work and I'm sure that you have a pony truck for that 999, laying around somewhere. It will be cool to see that American Flyer locomotive fixed-up and running, along with that clockwork engine. As I stated earlier, the bridge is Marx and the fence is from an Eldon slot car set. An excellent video, as always.

Nice idea for access to the center without having to duck under. How do you like the Menard's O Scale track? I do have about 30 feet of the Menard's track mixed in with my original Lionel O-27 track & i do like how much quieter it is, but the height difference of the rails makes a transitional challenge sometimes. I need to get some videos of my train table posted up on my page, I've been working on the table since Dec 2023 & the layout I am happy with & its in it's permanent state, I've spent the last 4 months working on the landscaping & scenery, the long part of building a scale train table.
