- Its time to upgrade our tent, so i went with the Big Agnes Gold Camp UL3. I love everything about this tent except for the size. This 3-person tent is really only suited for 1-person. Maybe the 5-person version will be better suited for my use.

I took the UL3 with me on bike rides this summer. It's perfect for me alone but it would be too small for two people (i need a little space extra). However, you can also lower the center bar, which increases the base area. With this tent i was able to save 2.5kg in weight compared to my beloved Nordisk Otra 2. With other weight-reduced equipment it ended up being 5kg (and of course a lot if money less in my bank account). If i were cycling as a couple i would choose the UL5. Sad but unfortunately I'm travelling alone. 🎉 All the best for you! 😊
Appreciate the input. I was sad this didn't work, I really liked everything about the tent. It is a heft price tag indeed. I was really looking forward to having something i can stand in to change. I'm still eyeing the UL5 though
Great video thanks for posting. I have a Helinox cot bed (standard length) and looking at this tent for just me plus bike kit as I like the standing height it gives you.
Would the cot fit one side of the tent do you think? You mentioned there was one in your tent in the video but couldn’t quite make it out what then ends looked like against the interior mesh walls.
I think that one cot plus gear could work. I recommend drawing the tent outline to scale and seeing how your cot fits. One commenter mentioned that if you lower the center pole you can get more sq ft but that sort of ruins the standing up part.
You had it setup really steep in your video. If you shortened up the center pole a notch or two and properly tensioned the tie-outs you could have gained a significant amount of floor space. I have spent about 25 nights in mine in the backcountry and it has performed really well. My wife and I both comfortably fit in ours with room for our packs inside if necessary.
Yeah, that makes sense. The big reason i tried this tent out was having the ability to stand up in it. Really tired of getting dressed laying down ;) sacrificing the head space for the floor space didn't make sense, I'm better off with my half dome plus
Great video! I'm considering the UL 5 for my wife and myself on our motorcycle trips. I want both our backpacking cots to fit in there and be able to stand up. Right now, I've got the 4-person Northwood II from REI but it's not as waterproof and it's not very tall. It's also quite a bit less expensive, of course.
I'd like to say that the UL 5 would work perfect. I would recommend setting up all your stuff in the yard and physically measuring it to compare to the dimensions of the tent prior to pulling the trigger. Also, be aware that the center pull wont go into the highest setting. When i did it, it had a crazy bow to it
Bummer. Good luck with everything. I like the look of that style and definitely wanted that to work. Ive got the Blacktail 3 that would sleep 2. Doors on both sides. Like Travis's old tent minus the hotel part. Got it off of ebay from a retailer trying to dump it. I load it, sleeping bag and little tarp for ground in a tillamook bag and load it crossways on back of bike. Works great for 1 but would like something a little smaller when packed. Again good luck on a return or swap.

What size pads are you using? Would have been nice to see you try to fit your sleep systems inside.
At 3:25 you can see my pad, and my partners cot inside of the tent. These two items fit easily into my half dome 2+ but not at all in this tent

Good honest review. Kinda seems like deceptive marketing a little. Hope the return works out.
My takeaway is that i should focus more on the actual dimensions and ignore any little graphic they provide. Return went well
