Alcohol and Drugs, The Basics

There are a lot of drugs and substances out there. While there are no two exact ways an employee will react or interact with a substance, there are some common substances and signs employees are using in the workplace.
One of the main substances used and abused in the workplace is Alcohol. Alcohol comes in many forms such as beer, wine, hard liquor and champagne.
Commonly, those under the influence of alcohol will: Have a gazed look, Lack focus, Be argumentative and Experience blackouts, loss of memory and may experience trouble with interpersonal relationships.
Another common substance seen in today’s workplace is Cannabis, also referred to as Marijuana or Hashish. Commonly, those under the influence of Cannabis will: Feel Euphoria, Lose coordination, Lose motivation and Have trouble with knowledge retention and experience memory impacts
A Supervisor may also observe work production decrease, loss of concentration, and overall unusual behaviour.
