Brilliant idea, if you’re still in contact with him, let him know there is a ratcheting version of what he’s using. This would mean you wouldn’t have to remove the crank handle and use the next hole, just back and forth like any ratchet handle. He’s made these out of truck tie down ratchet mechanisms that are normally mounted to trucks, lengthened the tube in the middle massively. Again, beautiful design and so wonderfully simple.
I'm sharing this with a couple of friends who have aircraft hangars on their properties and some of the most awkward stock exclusion fencing I've ever seen. Thanks Tim.
Nice work! One of the best features of a cocky gate is missing though. A part that wacks untrained and unauthorized people in the face when they use it :-)
Built a version of this years but had a crank handle permanently attached, definitely good for over 100 foot. But save yourself the effort and use black plastic droppers instead of cut steel makes it much lighter.
Also Tim question, your a man who knows wire knots and a challenge to you, what knots are out there for joining 3.15mm soft wire to Iowa barb, I've tried a few but they end up looking messy, and I'm always keen to improve my skills
We bought a neighbouring property, and old mate took off all the swinging gates and replaced them with cookie’s gates. Made of 4 strands of barb and some old timber slats from his sheep shed. I was so damn angry, and yet admired he had the balls to do that! Bloody old buggar died with his first penny, richest man in the cemetery 😂
That is great! Is it available in the USA? I've said it before you need to set up a way for us to buy the products that you showcase without the enormous shipping costs.
Great idea! I cringe seeing the aerosol paint bomb sitting on his welding table if he touches that earthed can by mistake shes bye bye good times! just saying it happens and not many know about it.
@@FarmLearningTim , that 't' piece is not what i meant. i would be making a handle like you use to start an old car. not suitable for the post bolted to the steel shed column but convenient for the fence post one.
Very good idea.
I would put the pipe higher than the post to Wine up without hitting the post.
1/2 socket drive and ratchet would be the cream on this product.
I agree and I think many of us were thinking the same thing.

Good morning, Tim, we are so lucky to have innovative people like Adam here in Australia. Cheers
Great upgrade on an old concept

Great Aussie product ! I'm sure improvements on the device will come a long the way when needed.

You could get ya finger jammed in tha pawl if you feel like it, but hey shouldn’t be messing with thinks that don’t concern, nice work👌🇦🇺

What a pleasure to witness genuine people innovating their farm management practices. Next stop, Silicon Valley!
very cool Tim, thanks for showing us new gear
That's awesome the other solution I've seen is a mob highpost with there roll around hinge, but it's always good to have more options
Also Tim question, your a man who knows wire knots and a challenge to you, what knots are out there for joining 3.15mm soft wire to Iowa barb, I've tried a few but they end up looking messy, and I'm always keen to improve my skills
I've got one I haven't edited yet on joining different wires... But I'd go with a figure 8 on that one. Ends up very neat.
Great idea, perhaps a large juice tin over the end to protect the ratchet from rust and cattle from knocking it loose 🙂👍
love this, bloody good on him if im ever asked to do one ill be recommending this 100%

What a great idea for cropping and sheep country. Cockie Gate 2024
Great system! How about adding a bit of an extension so winder is above post for continuous turning of handle.
and a crank handle to suit.
Came to the comments to say the same thing!
Hi folks 🎉 fabulous keep it simple ingenious idea 😮🎉
im thinking..extend the winder post with lever holes higher than the top of the fence post to wind quicker?!
He's using truck winches, would be much more expensive if he did that.
Good stuff again Tim. Thanks mate
Very good idea. Smart people. !!
I'd have nut or make an adapter to for a ratchet or impact.
Great idea 👍
Had them all over my farm they were a pain the arse (not wind up but old skool) replaced them all with N stay farm gates
Super idea!
Basically it is known as a version of the "Taranaki Gate", which is named for a region in New Zealand. The concept is over 150 years old, if not older
There is also the Mallee gate (over 150 years old) Cockie gate etc etc. We made the point that the gate design is not new pretty clear.
@@FarmLearningTim you made the point you are pathetic

Very very impressive
Getting baked in the sun every day makes for a smart bloke. Simple but impressive. Thanks Tim.
If you do a larger version at the other end you can wide it up open.
Excellent 👌

That's bloody brilliant... Some yank will want to buy it for bugger all and make a fortune out of em
now this is smart
does he make a crank handle to suit? (hint)
Yep. It's in the top of the post

@@vsvnrg3263 maybe it needs a Kiwi to improve the stop start crank handle
Was thinking the same thing, not for the shed but for the cocky gate it would work a treat.
