    Insightful discussion with moral clarity. Having had a profound conversion 16 years ago during a pilgrimage, where God intervened through our Blessed Mother to save my marriage, I have a sense that the world is slipping into a moral crisis under our current pontificate. Pray for the conversion of hearts to know and respect the sacredness of marriage and the sanctity of life. God bless!

      @mikepennn Taking ONE thing St. Paul says and running with it like it's the full gospel... typical of protestants. Yes, you are a heretic, as I once was. Good news, though... you can convert. Don't take being called a heretic as an insult but something YOU need to change regarding your faith and doctrines. I was a protestant and converted, as many others have.

    You can be Christian or you can be non-Christian. Being a Gay Roman Catholic Seminarian is someone who is sexually active. Priests in RC are supposed to be celibate (not just unmarried but sexually inactive). If they aren't prepared to be chaste then they should withdrawal from the seminary. That goes for those who are already ordained as well. They must be completely chaste or resign.

      @Mark3ABE 4 місяці тому +1

      I think that you mean “chaste” not celibate. The word “celibate” means not married. In the past, of course, it was simply assumed that if someone professed to be a Christian, if he or she was not in a valid marriage, he would not be committing mortal sin by engaging in sexual relations outside a valid marriage. So, in common usage, saying that someone was “unmarried” implied (if he or she was a Christian) that he was living a “chaste” life. Now, of course, the fact that someone is not in a valid marriage is not seen as automatically implying that he or she is living a chaste life, so referring to someone as “unmarried” or “celibate” is not really of much use. We need to know whether the person is, or is not, “chaste” not whether he or she is or is not married.

    It is correct to exclude homosexuals from the priesthood and, therefore, also from seminaries. Seminarians are our future spiritual shepherds, after all. How will they preach and forgive sins impacting the Catholic family and human relationships if they insist on being gay. The word the Holy Father used may have been a bit pejorative, but he certainly had a message in mind, namely, that Fiducia Supplicans must not be allowed to taint the sacred status of being a priest. Even of gays may be plessed, a priest must remain pure of heart and a person dedicated solely to God. Mary Anne Buhagiar, Malta.

    For those of you who would like some perspective on this new document, research a book written by the Archbishop of Vancouver, J. Michael Miller, that's called, "What are they saying about the Papacy?" It articulates the theological framework for the "ecumenical theology" underpinning this new document. Lastly, this is aimed at returning the Lutheran's and the Anglican's to Rome; the Orthodox are not a serious concern to Rome.

    “Thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church”. This hierarchy has served well for 2000 yrs. This system has kept the dogma pure. The early church fathers did not change teaching when the Heracles arose but met as a body and with prayer discerned Church teaching. Are we forgetting the direction of the Holy Spirit? “United we stand; divided we fall “. Evil prefers division. This Pope continues to divide. Even his statements to “unite” are said in ways to divide- double speak which nullifies their meanings.

It preach truth with kindness takes time for explanation to gain acceptance. 20 minutes is the accepted time frame for adult attention span. People are leaving the Church and going to the non- denominational churches where the sermons are 45+ minutes. People want meat and not intro to subject matter left unexplained.

We don’t jump from “that looks odd” to burning witches like what the Puritans did in Salem. We give the benefit of the doubt and ask if there are any questions. We then give the answer the benefit of the doubt. This is how we love our neighbor.

    The definition of the dogma of “Papal Infallibility” by the First Vatican Council was highly problematic. The Archbishop of Paris spoke out the most strongly against it. Some of the American Bishops said that they thought the proposed new dogma to be blasphemous. Not all Bishops attended the Council, because of the military situation - some left early, before the vote on the new dogma, to avoid being trapped in a possible siege of Rome. After the definition of the novel dogma, some English Catholics left to join the Old Catholics. A compromise was reached to prevent further defections. The dogma would remain “on the books” but would never be invoked. It never has been invoked. By the time Pope John XXIII was elected in 1958 it had become a “dead letter”. Pope John stated formally that he would never invoke the dogma. Cardinal Fernandez recently stated that Pope Francis would never invoke the dogma. However, it still remains, a relic of the injured pride of Pope Pius IX who, smarting from his loss of temporal status following the annexation of Rome and Lazio by King Victor Emanuel II in 1870, attempted to boost his status by attempting to enhance his spiritual authority. It was intended as a snub by the Pope to the King, who had earlier offered the Pope a compromise - abdicate voluntarily and the King would, in return, legislate to confirm his position as Primate of All Italy. The Pope responded by saying that he would define his own authority - he probably went a little too far! The Pope ordered the Swiss Guard into action - 29 were killed before he finally gave the order to surrender. Until 1929, the Papacy had no temporal authority. Pope Francis now wishes to formally confirm that he is a temporal ruler, a Prince, sovereign of the tiny relic of “the donation of Constantine” entitled to the same status as any other world ruler. He is Bishop of Rome, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Rome, Primate of All Italy, President of the Italian Episcopal Conference. He wants a novel title. Not “Vicar of Christ” in the Universal Church, but “Patriarch of the West” instead. There is some historical justification - until 1453, when the City finally fell to the Turks, the Christian Roman Emperor held the title “Vicar of Christ”. The Bishop of Rome had only the Petrine Ministry of “confirming the brethren” - keeping the Church free of doctrinal error. He had no authority of an administrative nature over his fellow Bishops, as far as the Eastern Church was concerned. The Eastern Church was very dismissive of the title assumed by the former Barbarians “Holy Roman Emperor”. They watched with amazement as the Pope and the Emperor squabbled over temporal and spiritual matters. In the East, the Emperor and the Patriarch co existed peacefully.

    •  4 місяці тому +2

    • @Mark3ABE
      @Mark3ABE 4 місяці тому

      @@ΑλξΠλξ The Church was, undoubtedly, one before 1054. After that, the Eastern and Western branches of the Church divided. The Eastern branch took the view that it was impossible to hold an Ecumenical Council unless every Bishop in the Church attended, or, at least, was invited to attend. Since this was no longer possible after the Great Schism, they took the view that they would accept only the first Seven Ecumenical Councils of the Church as valid and binding. Fortunately, these Councils, when the Church remained undivided, decided most important matters of doctrine, such as the Trinity, the Divinity of Christ, etc. Later Councils were held only in the Western Church. The most significant of these was, of course, the Council of Trent, which dealt with the criticisms raised against the Church by the Protestant Reformers. Since there was no similar Reformation in the East, the findings of this Council, which did not more than simply restate existing doctrine, in a way which excluded the Protestant errors, are not directly relevant to the Eastern Churches.

    It was not a good idea to forbid married men to access to the lower clergy in the 11th century, from a mathematical point of view. It reduced the pool of potential priests and raised the % of men with abnormal tendencied among the priests. Simple arithmetic issue.

    • @Mark3ABE
      @Mark3ABE 4 місяці тому

      Indeed - the secular clergy were, generally, married in the Western Church until the later Middle Ages. With the flowering of Monasticism, Franciscans and Dominicans travelled from parish to parish renewing the spiritual life of the Church. These celibate Priests contrasted with the often lazy and worldly secular clergy, more concerned about their wives and families, in many cases, than the spiritual good of their flock. Simony was rife. The Parish Priest would pass on his “living” to his eldest son - often having no vocation to the Priesthood. Introducing the discipline of celibacy for the secular clergy was seen as a way of improving the spiritual life of the Church. However, as Pope Benedict XVI points out in his final book “What is a Christian”, by the 1980s, the experiment had failed. The Seminaries were homosexual clubs, where the seminarians advanced their careers by sleeping with their teachers. When Pope Francis was informed that Cardinal McCarrick, as Rector of a seminary, required young seminarians to sleep with him if they wished to become his “favourites” and advance their careers, the Pope responded that he saw nothing wrong with that, since the seminarians were adults, not children. He only laicised Cardinal MCCarrick when the civil authority prosecuted him for child sex abuse. At that time, the Pope was trying not to “rock the boat”. Now, he has had enough. As Primate of All Italy and President of the Italian Bishops Conference, having personal direct responsibility for the seminaries in Italy, he has finally said “basta” - there is too much “gaiety” amongst the Italian clergy. He used a less polite word than “gaiety”.
