Screw critics (and especially modern day critics ) What's New Pussycat is an extremely funny and entertaining film, and it has a great soundtrack that I listen to often.
I really wish Peter O'Toole had gotten a chance to do more comedies of this variety as he plays well off everybody in the movie including Peter Sellers -- and it's hard to play along side Sellers in the same scene and be just as interesting to watch.

It's really heartbreaking to think of that chic, funny, charming and beautiful woman aging alone with her cats.
With all the love and friendship she engendered she never believed she was loved herself.
    Tragic.

Capucine was a great friend of both Hubert de Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn. Her acting career was challenging, as you mentioned in détails. Sad about her passing, while her good Friend, Audrey Hepburn, was travelling for her humanitarian works and fighting early stages of cancer, Capucine fought a very deep demon, i hope she found peace at Last.

She was the first movie star I fell in love with...I was 11. Every one of my many wifes to come, reflected her look. It still depresses me that she found no lasting happiness in her life and ended the way it did.

I always admired her and saw many of her movies. She was an entertaining actress. Very few women in cinema have had her almost ethereal beauty that belonged in the Louvre along with Mona Lisa. She made her exit in a dramatic albeit very sad way. Nothing is ever perfect and she (like Marylin Monroe and many other actresses) was cursed by manic depression. The paramount of classic beauty.

I watched all of your presentation on Capucine. I appreciate your dignified and sympathetic narration. Obviously she was underappreciated in general for many years and somehow faulted for not becoming the perfect replacement for Grace Kelly. I've always felt the American public secretly disliked that Kelly married Ranier of Monaco , felt rejected and hurt because she had come to embody cherished ideals. Now I believe Capucine partly became a focus of that public disappointment. Sad that she died as she did , but , somehow , respectable. I would like to comment further but many always seem to hate my perspective on anything. I will say , however , that an American tabloid newspaper recently made assertions that Ranier lied to Grace Kelly in various ways before she agreed to marry him. It was asserted he had no more money , and that Kelly either had money herself he could exploit , and/or her talent, fame and popularity would enable him to restore his wealth and royal stature.

Very good. Can you make one about Alida Valli? And maybe not only about her Hollywood movies but in general as Italian beauty actress who made international and italian movies as well?

There was rumors that she was a man and then she aged. All of that made her feel insecure. Her career was slowing, she was alone and she started developing depression. Her friend Audrey Hepburn ( who dated also William Holden... I can’t wait for the next one about him !) ,lived like her in Switzerland and used to see her and support her when she had mental crises and suicidal idealisation. But that day 1990, she had enough. And jumped from her building. May she find peace in her sleep.

The rumour about her having been a man is still being circulated now. I was going through a museum a few years ago and there was a display about transgender milestones. There in the middle was a massive picture of Capucine.

@@gilgameshofuruk4060 can’t believe there’s still people with that misinformation about her! What led to confusion is that there was a French trans performer also called Capucine. They were two different people that just happened to have the same name.

John Wayne didn’t wear shoe lifts, he wore Cowboy boots.

The jury is still out on this one. Bette Davis, Rock Hudson and others said that he did. He denied it. If the claim that he wore 4 inch lifts was correct, then more would have noted it as it would have been so obvious. However, if it was a open secret, most people would never have commented. I do question why an already very tall man (even today he would tower over most) would want to become excessively tall.

With cowboy boots, John Wayne would have been close to 6'6".

Kind of liked her, though she rarely appeared in films I was watching. Stunning to hear how unhappy and tragic was her seemingly charmed life. She was lucky to at least have had friends such as Hepburn and Holden, both also charmed. Holden's life too, came to a really sorry conclusion.

I feel it would be nice if the pictures matched the captions. For instance he mentions Audrey Hepburn we never see her, and also Brigitte Bardot, and we never see her. A proper editor would be able to do this very easily.

@@trevorstevens2889 true, but the first time when they mentioned the friendship with Hepburn and showed her with a different woman. And they mentioned her husband, then showed Peter Sellers. Just 2 examples of the many unfortunate mismatches.

I was always intrigued by Capucine when I watched North to Alaska with my father. I felt she was extremely beautiful and mysterious. I'm so sorry she had to leave the way she did. Depression is awful. Are there any books written about her? I'm not having any luck finding one. Thank you for your story.

Ironic that Hollywood wanted Capucine as a replacement for Grace Kelly, and yet didn't choose to cast her in the type of roles they would have given Grace Kelly.
I first saw her in What's New Pussycat, a film that allowed a lot of actors that didn't do a lot of comedy (like O'Toole and Remy Schneider) a chance to shine in a film that is still very funny.
