Nice to see a video with some more info regarding your screen. It was actually me, who posted that comment on your first vid. I had to check out xiphmont's site, and you are right, it's available again. I am sure it was down for a while, as there was even a discussion about it on Thinkpad forum, and some of us ended up using the wayback machine,. I will try to contact Xiphmont again, see if he will respond, and his kits might be still available. Although I have looked for his most recent posts, and the newest one is from 2018 on Thinkpad forum. But I also see that last he logged in in late 2021, so who knows.
I have the panel in a box but procrastinating the install. I do need the wifi though. Actually you have an X61s? I think that lid is a bit thinner and the panel mounts without the metal frame.
I’m just installing mine from KevinTradeShop and yeah it’s noticeably dimmer than even my original screen. There’s an aliexpress listing for an led mod kit for the x61. But for now I might just try swapping the ccfl’s between the two lcds.
If you ever decide to go ahead with that LED mod, please let us know about your experience (both installation, and final results). I have done LED mods on a couple of T60 Thinkpads, one of them has a very faint ripple now in the backlight diffuser sheet (I have no idea what the correct term is for that part, it's basically the big white sheet in the lcd assembly), and the other one has some dust particles, and the right corner of the screen is darker than the rest (I assume something is obstructing the last 1 or 2 LEDs in the backlight at the bottom). So they are definitely not an easy drop in mod. I am sure with some practice it would become a lot easier, but most of us do this only on that one or two laptops we want to upgrade. That being said, the brightness difference is just insane. I can easily use them even outdoor now, they go super bright. I used Xiphmont's LED kits (bought them a few years ago, when they were still available), so the colours are also extremely nice, and there is no PWM flickering either. I actually made a post about my conversion on Thinkpad forums a while ago (it's in the Thinkpad T60 thread).
@@kosztaz87 I attempted the CCFL backlight swap but it isn’t going super well. 😅 I’m worried I may be shorting something. I’ve ordered the aliexpress led kit. I guess I’ll find out how it goes in a month or two.
@@wsketchy it worked mostly well. I made a video about it on my channel. There’s a link in a comment below. It was just a little tough to squeeze everything back in there. I may open it up again and remove the cellular antenna and see if that makes some more space.
We all know it is Ali-Express, it's the only place to go for extremely old hardware. Sometimes I wonder how they keep hundreds or eve thousands of these kinds of screens in warehouses somewhere. Like who is exactly ordering 768p screens in TYOOL 2022.... there simply can't be MILLIONS of thinkpad enthusiasts, right?
hello, do you have any photos of how you routed the cabling for this mod? for me, the screen does not sit flat enough which means the screen bezel bulges and the lid does not want to close properly. I think the cabling is not routed well for this reason
Ah, I don't have pictures, and left the laptop at home while I am at college. It is not the best solution, but I removed the WIFI antenna and cables entirely to get that extra, like, 1/10th of a millimeter. With the screen's ribbon cable itself I got it as flat as I can and taped it down, and did fold the ribbon cable over once, if I recall. So the best advice I can really give is just fiddling with it until it is satisfactory... Before I did that the bezel pushed against the corners causing a bit of unevenness in the backlight, but now it's tolerable. Sorry if that ain't the best solution, but I hope you can keep your laptop going!
@@Arcrinato thank you! I am waiting on a new inverter & led backlight (was having issues with the backlight cutting in and out) and then I am gonna give it another try. hopefully it works out :)
There would definitely be issues fitting it in a bigger chassis, you'd basically have to figure out some custom solution to hold it in, and the cable would probably be incompatible... I have read on the ThinkPads.com forum of people putting in T60 screens in T4x laptops, but doesn't look like there's a list or anything, and there is probably a difference in the cable. The parts numbers are listed in the T4x Hardware Maintenance Manual, so if there's any second hand screens floating around they'd be listed with that model number. With how old parts are getting and the dwindling supply, it might be a bit of trouble getting something, to be honest.
I have X61 In very good condition ,years ago I tried to replaced the c mos battery ,then the bios lock ,ever since then It sitting in my basement , any solution to this bios lock ?.
Ah, sorry for the late response, but it looks like there's no way around other than using an external hardware flasher to flash a fresh BIOS, unfortunately.

Two years later (in 2024) it does not seem to be possible to get an SXGA+-panel online :-(

How is this 12.1 replacement screen fitting in a spot made for a 14.1 or 15.4 inch laptop? Also, any idea on a replacement screen for a T41?
