The simplicity in the tools that you use is inspiring.
I don't know. I'm a teenager who has done programming for a few years, and the workloads that I do from time to time justify my 2 setups. I have a main pc build with a Ryzen 9 5950x and a RTX 3070 ti and then a MBP with the new m1 chip (not m1 max or pro just regular one). I use my laptop for school and portable coding and like making websites and stuff which doesn't require too much CPU/GPU usage or anything. I also make games on it from time to time, but sometimes I need multiple vms running, or servers or I need to render a big model or scene or make a graphically intensive game. I worked for both my mbp and my computer by owning a small business when I was 14 selling computer software. I do get distracted a lot but im looking into maybe doing the productivity and entertainment user stuff as holy shit, based on how productive I was before I got these devices to even work for them, it has all went down.

I think it's great that you can get into the world of computers even with little money. Back then, I had to work hard for my first computer and it cost almost as much as a used small car. But it was never a choice between a car or a computer, the computer won the race without having to think about it. I like your space, it immediately makes me want to tinker and set up the next micro NAS or little k8 cluster. Sometimes I long back for that spirit of optimism and everything is possible time.

I really dig it, I love the thinkpads. I have a new thinkpad, 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz 1 TB storage. It's a 16 inch workstation, 3-4 ish pounds. Not heavy but not light. Gonna use it for school (A&M this fall engineering whoop!), and I have a singular monitor I can use with it if I wanted (lenovo q24). I like it, having one laptop for all of school, one monitor that I can use occasionally, and one basic keboard/ mouse. I think anything more like dual monitors, although nice and I have a dual monitor setup at work (where I intern for a Power company as a co-op electrical engineering student) are overkill for just students although some would argue they get better productivity. At work I need two monitors to have emails and multiple spreadsheets/ databases open while I use PSSE software to model power systems, but one at home is excellent. It's so tempting to look at more monitors and stuff, but I'm lucky enough to have one really work-focused nice laptop for it all.
i also own and use one of those older Ipods and the battery life is a beast. Like I used one for 15 hours straight (long bus drive) and the battery life was still at 90%.
I think this goes to show though, just how little you really need for programming and development. Plenty of engineers I know use old lenovo's. You don't need a macbook pro 16 inch with 5 thousand gigabytes of ram and 2 million gb of storage to run netbeans. Not to mention only very specific applications within comp sci / software eng field actually need graphics.
That monitor though. I kinda of wish I had a non wide monitor kicking around. I like the katakana and hiragana too! Trust me though a Mac is worth every penny I don’t regret it at all. It seems more expensive upfront but I save over the long term because I don’t need to keep upgrading the Mac like I did other hardware. Or buying new desktop components adds up very fast. Its easy to not realize how much a new video card, ram, storage adds up to money wise. Not being able to upgrade my Mac has been freeing in a minimalism sense because I’m not constantly wasting time looking at new hardware or spending the money buying said upgrades.

I find that using a laptop that isn't your own helps. You keep it minimalistic as you have to give it back eventually. So I find that I only install what is needed.
Hey man I saw towards the end of the video you wanted to combine the two laptops, and i also saw in a more recent video you had another macbook. First thought that popped into my head was establishing a base or home network server or NAS and file sharing remotely from your productivity laptop when you have access to wi-fi.
I'm more into digital optimization. still using a 12 year old laptop with few upgrades for majoring in computer science lol. still using a cheap android to get through my mails and messages, that's it. I understand this guy, lots of features and potentials in today's machines that we might not need. And for extra computation power, we got collab and kaggle. U might actually end up saving a lot on gadgets and devices.
Love the ThinkPad's. I was going to buy a used T480 with a i7-8th Gen CPU for $250. However this guy was selling a T14 Gen3 with a i7-12th gen CPU for $400. Couldn't pass that up. Upgraded the RAM to 40GB and HDD to 1TB. The shared Intel IRISxe graphics work decently well and it can do some light gaming. That being said someone like you deserves a high end laptop. You would get so much use out of it.

hi, man. i feel relieved to know that im not the only one in the world with focus issues lmao. but what about tools for blocking sites or blocking apps. have you tried em? i heard about one, i think its focal filter (think its a chrome extension). nice video btw!
I can't tell if you are into retro tech, or just like to budget, or older tech is better for digital minimalism. There are many ways to get around distractions on a modern device. Still wondering why your using a CRT monitor in 2021 lol.
I have never used a TI in college. Used it in high school to draw THICC cardioids for fun. Never had actual use for it. Could've used the money now to get 4-5 months worth of ramen. But no regrets. The THICC cardioids were worth it.
I have a thinkpad T560 and an external screen, thats it. The laptop itself has a big screen and I have my second screen to pull up things I need to just see and not work on. Its pretty heavy but I dont mind, and it has a great battery life. I mostly study out of house because it makes it easier to get things done for me, so I normally just use the laptop but in a lot of areas of the uni I can use other external screens to display stuff. (I display like worksheets and lecturenotes) I run windows and linux subsystem for some developing. In total like 300 Euros which I am very happy with. Oh and I have like 5 year old huawei running android but just to stay in contact with my family not for working.
You remind me of me 30 years ago, except my equipment back then was bulky. Having a 3 gig hard drive on a 10 pound laptop was the norm. And of course there was no WIFI. I had a wired network in my dorm room. You young folks have it easy. It took my all night to download linux redhat. I think it came on 16 1.4meg files that I downloaded using the schools dial in 56k modem, although I typically would only get a 38k connection. Oh the memories. Have fun in whatever career you find yourself in.
Honestly i’m inspired to get a mac/ a lower end laptop to prevent myself from distractions since i do struggle with school, especially since i had Autism, and in general just can’t stay focused easily, but the problem is I honestly game on pc and when i have off time that’s what prevents burn out

I recommend the moondrop chu if you need something better than earpods otherwise I still use them because the comfort and being able to hear your surroundings
I find that using a laptop that isn't your own helps. You keep it minimalistic as you have to give it back eventually. So I find that I only install what is needed.
Mika moves in front of camera
*everyone liked that*
Hey man I saw towards the end of the video you wanted to combine the two laptops, and i also saw in a more recent video you had another macbook. First thought that popped into my head was establishing a base or home network server or NAS and file sharing remotely from your productivity laptop when you have access to wi-fi.
its amazing how the stuff u own all serve a purpose and able to last this long
mika be like : oh the man talking with the camera again...I want to sleep 😾
him: showing off his technology
me: looking at mika the whole video haha
I'm more into digital optimization. still using a 12 year old laptop with few upgrades for majoring in computer science lol. still using a cheap android to get through my mails and messages, that's it. I understand this guy, lots of features and potentials in today's machines that we might not need. And for extra computation power, we got collab and kaggle. U might actually end up saving a lot on gadgets and devices.
Loving this set up!
This video made me appreciate my device more...
I don't think im technologically advanced enough to watch this video even though his techs are so ancient. super satisfying to watch though.
You would get so much use out of it.
he is using what he has, he is using what is available at his disposable to get a task accomplished without spending more money buying more stuff resulting in more technology and technology that is not being utilized. you've inspired me friendo.
mika really likes taking the spot uwu
Half tempted to ask this bloke for a Hackintosh tutorial now. XD
i'm so jealous of your set up bruh :33 I NEED
I love that he has a Zune and an iPod. I have the same as well. They're still great for music!
You know what? Your video suddenly appears in my UA-cam recommendation and I don't know who you are, but hey I like your cat, and also the video of course. I expect more interesting things from you.
I find curious and funny how popular are Thinkpads and GNU/Linux among young people nowadays, in contrast with darker ages (and of course, using Arch btw).
Hey cheers man for the vid. I am starting my first year of computer science this year :)
you deserve an upgraded set up! keep up the good work
hi, man. i feel relieved to know that im not the only one in the world with focus issues lmao. but what about tools for blocking sites or blocking apps. have you tried em? i heard about one, i think its focal filter (think its a chrome extension).
nice video btw!
I can't tell if you are into retro tech, or just like to budget, or older tech is better for digital minimalism. There are many ways to get around distractions on a modern device. Still wondering why your using a CRT monitor in 2021 lol.
unironically one of the best videos i ever seen
such a cozy vibe i love it
I have never used a TI in college. Used it in high school to draw THICC cardioids for fun. Never had actual use for it. Could've used the money now to get 4-5 months worth of ramen. But no regrets. The THICC cardioids were worth it.
It's so surprising our setup is almost the same. The only difference is I feel the need to upgrade everything :/
(I display like worksheets and lecturenotes)
I run windows and linux subsystem for some developing.
I never see this kind of videos of technology but if is jame's technolpgy stuff here i am
3:52 WHEN YOU SEE IT
what old iphone??
@@shadowman6309 nah, you must play osu! to get it
WYSI
Honestly i’m inspired to get a mac/ a lower end laptop to prevent myself from distractions since i do struggle with school, especially since i had Autism, and in general just can’t stay focused easily, but the problem is I honestly game on pc and when i have off time that’s what prevents burn out
Respect for that ThiccPad.
I'm using L512 with upgraded RAM to 8Gb, 120Gb SSD and i3 370m. (run Ubuntu LTS, Xubuntu, Mint Cinamon and sometimes Windows 10 on it).
This cat has an Intel Core 2 Duo and 8 gigs of RAM.
Oh i thought it was the high end version with a core 2 quad
😂
This guy is sooo Vintage-gyy ....keep it up buddy! love love
0:34 that's a really nice equipment right there. can't go without it.
Hell yeah, I've got an X61 too. Been sitting in storage for a bit, makes me want to take that beauty out again. Think I have Mint running on it.
when your cat is on your front left, i thought i have a cat on my front left too. it's crazy that i always want to pet my non existent cat on my front left
you just made me realise how precious my i3 laptop is
Thanku
yea in Windows 10 , I use new desktop feature for work vs leisure. that way I customize the icons as well and there's no need to logout and log in
I loved every aspect about the video and was totally sold when you have "arurian dance" as the only song in that phone
the technology I use for school :
"so First, the cat !"
