  • We continue our search for propane while we head north towards Cusco we make a stop off to see the famous Rainbow Mountain, but we avoid the tourist trap and find a way to get the crazy views but with less people and a much lower price tag. We meet some new friends, and enjoy the unique views that Peru has to offer.

    👍 The Scenery is Amazing. White Peaks + Black MOuntains + Rainbow Mountains. That River is full of natural minerals, probably iron or red mud

    What an awesome place! I'm counting down the months until I start my trip down (22.) Plenty of things to go through on my old Fj80 in the meantime. I am currently putting in a new transmission for example lol.

      Fun stuff! We had to put in a new trans before we left as well. Good luck!

      @@DirtSunrise Perhaps the Achilles heal of the mighty 80. My new transmission cooler is basically the size of my radiator now at least!

      @@DirtSunrise Speaking of fueling. I was also wondering what you guys do for filtering. Do you just run the stock setup or have you taken additional steps? I am considering adding a CAV-Delphi filter/water separator similar to a marine application. I can't decide if that would be overkill or a worthwhile investment. Any advice is much appreciated. Cheers!

    Great find! The alternate painted mountain location looks every bit as amazing as the tourist trap one to me.
    P.S. Amy and I just bought tickets to Overland Rally NW and hoping to bump into you guys in person in September! This will be our first overland expo/rally.

      @@DirtSunrise Was that reply meant for me? Seemed off topic. I am close to the Canadian border (northern Idaho), but not sure what other connection that has to my comment. If it was meant for some other poor soul, they'll think you didn't love them enough to reply.

    👍 You finally find a Filling Gas Station ! Did you drive in that direction on purpose or just was a lucky coincidence in your travel ?

      We were headed that way, but had a couple Gas places on the list we were going to try. Glad the first one worked out!

    Do you guys run on petrol or diesel?? If diesel how do you manage the high sulphur issue in South American diesel?

    • @jpk0612
      @jpk0612 4 роки тому

      Their 80 is petrol. However, if it was a diesel version of the 80 Series with any of the diesel engines offered (1HD, 1HDT or 1HDFT) it would not be an issue. I have a 1HDT diesel and as it's an old school engine it will run on practically any diesel out there. Where you run into issues is with new diesel vehicles and their emissions equipment. They are designed to run on ultra low sulfur which we use in much of the western world, it is a fairly recent development in diesel technology. In 2008 the US implemented much stricter diesel emissions. An example would be taking a 2008 or newer diesel vehicle into Mexico from the US, something like a 2012 Ford F250, but it could be anything. Most of Mexico does not have low sulfur diesel (you can find it, but it can be difficult.) If you were to run the "dirty" diesel in a vehicle equipped with DPF emissions technology it would gum things up and cause catastrophic issues. There have been many cases where people have actually destroyed their engines.

    • @jpk0612
      @jpk0612 4 роки тому +1

      The only way you could currently take a newer than 2008 USA spec diesel through Central/S America would be if you removed the DPF system. While this can be done, it makes said vehicle highly illegal in most US states.

      jpk0612 nailed it! We did have to adjust the engines timing in Bolivia and some other areas with poor quality Gasoline/Petrol because the octane was so low.

    • @CG-99
      @CG-99 4 роки тому +1

      @@DirtSunrise yep I am very familiar with the sulphur problem with modern diesel vehicles, which is why I was interested to hear how you had handled it. Using a petrol car is probably the easiest way!!

    • @CG-99
      @CG-99 4 роки тому +1

      @@jpk0612 yep thanks, this was my understanding. They solved it the easiest way possible and that was to go with a petrol car!
