Climbing Peru's Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain: We Couldn't Breathe! 🇵🇪

- For our one-year wedding anniversary, we had to choose between visiting the more well-known Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, or the lesser-known Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain. We chose to go with Palccoyo for a number of different reasons, and the choice most certainly didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a full day exploring a magical place where mountains were rainbows and alpacas roamed free. After a twelve-hour tour, we returned to the city of Cusco, where we enjoyed cuy (guinea pig), a traditional Peruvian delicacy, pisco sours, anticuchos de corazon, and a slice of tres leches cake. Everything about this day was wonderful and memorable, and we would relive it all over again if it was possible! 🇵🇪

I just did the Rainbow Mountain hiking (Jan 4th) Horrible 😂It’s my country but I think is not ready for lots of tourist yet. They need to be more organized and put more signs. Hiking it was very hard I couldn’t breath , I thought I was gonna end up in the hospital 😂 . But I’m happy that when I got to the top I could take some good photos with the Alpacas ! ❤ It was cloudy and it was also raining time to time but I’m glad I could make it to the top ! I’m proud of myself 😂❤😂❤

Perú has three regions: Coast, Highlands and Jungle, that is why it has so many touristic places to visit. Cuy is eated in the andean parts of Perú, Bolivia y Ecuador. I am peruvian but i don't like cuy, also it doesn't have much meat to eat. Thanks for visiting my country and welcome back anytime!
Thank you for this recommendation! We chose Palccoyo, and it was a good experience. There were no crowds so we really got to enjoy it.
The only thing about this day experiences is that if the overall trip is short, this tours are a bit far. More time on the bus than on the mountain.

I have seen videos of Red Valley that is like a mile from Vinicunca and for me is much more beautiful than any other mountain trek, just wait until people start going there it will become the next hot spot.

I noticed you went into Cusco to book your tours which is what my husband and I were planning on doing as well. Could you tell me where you went to do this? Did you just find a local agency on the streets/ in the city or did you have a certain group you worked with?
Hey Sarah! We walked into a tour agency that was very close to Plaza de armas. Here are the coordinates. It did not have a name on google maps.

I don't know if you don't care what other people feel. But there are more and more people who avoid animal suffering wherever possible because animals are terribly afraid of dying violently at the hands of humans. To see a roasted animal corpse, of a sentient creature that did not want to die for the 10 minutes of taste explosion on the tongue. Whether the mountain dwellers of Peru are dependent on animal protein, I cannot judge. But in the industrialized nations, we can now eat a completely healthy, cruelty-free diet, so why should you still choose cruelty? If you still decide to use the violent variant of a diet, please don't show the victims. Peace begins with what is on our plates 💚🌱
