  • ...yeahhhh, the Bare Bone Rides Brothers (a.k.a., The Lang Brothers) have recently unveiled another customer build (April 2013). It started off as a "project" bike that our customer picked-up recently ... needed a crap-load of work however, based on what our customer was hoping for and some old-school BBR elbow grease.vision, the Mad-Max reminiscent KZ1000P "TOEKUTTER" bike was born! Yes, this bike was at one time a KZ1000P Police Bike, similar to the California Highway Patrol (CHiPs) Kawasaki KZ1000P that we recently transformed for a friend in California. Check out more photos and fun at www.barebonerides.com or on our facebook page at barebonerides. Thank you for looking folks, as always, we definitely appreciate your time, your feedback and your interest in our work!

      Goose and Toecutter both rode '77 KZ1000 with a Mk II engine. This here's a KZ1000-P, which has the J model engine... it's a completely different and far more powerful beast. The J model engine was taken off the market in 1983, but it continued to be made and sold for police use up until 2005. I have one... and it irritates me to no end that people look up the stats for the older KZ1000 and tell me my bike can't do what it absolutely does on a daily basis.

    I was never a big fan of the 1,000J engine. But I like the way you made the bike look like an earlier one.
    The pipe, however, is too low and at an odd angle. I know it's an "off the shelf" item. But it needs to be cut and re shaped IMO

He wanted an old school drag race bike look when he brought us his donor bike. Anyone familiar with these old school quarter mile drag bikes will recognize this exhaust ... often called the "sidewinder" pipe. Not ideal for normal street riding but perfect for the drag strips!

    I had a 83 CB 1100 f. Loved the bike, but I like Kawasaki's and Suzuki's. I'm sure I am not the only one that wants to know. How much it would cost someone to roughly fix a bike like this?

    • @barebonerides
      @barebonerides  6 років тому +1

      Thank you for your feedback on this bike and for watching the video, Earl! As you can imagine, it is not so easy to provide an estimate for a build without knowing some details of your bike or the donor bike. That being said, lets say you have a KZ1000 donor bike that is already 100% mechanically sound and running 100% ... for us to replicate this bike (we would never produce two of the same bikes but, can make one similar), one would need to invest roughly $5-$6K with us ... as of March 2018.

    • @barebonerides
      @barebonerides  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for checking her out and reaching out to us. You will need to do some modifications/chopping on the subframe to make this older tail piece fit/mount on to the bike. We have done this many times with other makes/models of bikes - you will definitely need to be able to do some welding to add mounting tabs to make this happen. Fortunately for our customer, he purchased this donor bike with the tail piece already fit to the subframe. We only had to do some clean-up on the subframe and eliminated some unneeded tabs/mounts. Good luck on your project - and if you cannot fabricate/weld steel and if you do not have a friend that can help with this portion of your build, then look for a local metal/welding shop to see if they would be willing to work with you on this effort. It is quite straight forward for someone that knows how to work with metal!

      Hey there, thanks for checking out this video. Pretty certain you will not be able to find a company that is still fabricating stretched swingers for your bike - we recommend you look on ebay and try to source a good used one there. Or, go the a local race track and try to speak with other folks that may have stretched swingers on their KZ's ... they may have a recommendation for a local welder/fabricator who has the ability/skill to extend your swingarm properly/safely. Good luck with your KZ750!

      Hey there, thank you for checking out this video. Although we are not positive as our customer provided the tail-piece and seat combination (we just recovered the seat), we are pretty certain the tail-piece is from a mid 70's KZ1000. Hi.
    Did you change the sprockets or are they standard factory set-up?
    I have a 1990 KZ1000P here in the UK and I find the revs are too high in 4th & 5th gear. I was thinking about changing the sprockets rather than taking out the gearbox to alter the internal gears. What's your thoughts?
    Wayne.

    • @barebonerides
      @barebonerides  10 років тому

      Hey Wayne, this particular bike came to the shop with the sprockets you see ... not sure about the front sprocket but, the rear one is definitely not stock with a few less teeth than the stock Police version. As you know, the stock versions came with some huge rear sprockets ... gave these bikes some awesome acceleration (perfect for police chases). We suggest you check out some KZ forums and see what the folks recommend as the best set-up for all around street riding ... we would assume that many folks even go to a smaller/lighter chain (say a 530 vs the stock 630) and 2-3 teeth smaller on the rear sprocket. Again, before you do anything, check the forums and get in touch with the KZ experts - they will set you in the right direction or at a minimum, give you a good starting point - then tweak as necessary for personal preference/riding performance! Good luck man!

    • @barebonerides
      @barebonerides  3 роки тому

      Hey Joshua, many call that exhaust a "side winder" pipe from back in the day - it was designed mainly for 1/4 mile racing because it really limits the bikes ability to turn/lean right. It is definitely not an ideal pipe for normal street riding. The more traditional 4 into 1 pipe the snakes under the bike is a much better option!

      @barebonerides  Рік тому

      Hey there, thanks for the note. Sadly, there are not many options out there for new exhaust systems for these old machines. You can always try eBay for a decent used system? Mac makes a new 4 into 1 system - not the best out there but good value for money. Check out this site (we order a lot of parts from these folks: www.nichecycle.com/ncs/categories/exhaust/head-pipes/991-0901hp-kawasaki-kz900-kz1000-tri-y-head-pipes-by-mac-performance.html). There is a new Kerker system on eBay that could potentially fit - since the KZ1000P's are slightly different than the standard KZ1000's from that era, you will need to do some research with Kerker first to make sure it will fit your bike! (www.ebay.com/itm/115639048635). Good luck on your search ... great machines!!!

    • @barebonerides
      @barebonerides  7 років тому +1

      That pipe is a Vance and Hines "side-winder" pipe ... keep in mind that these side-winder pipes are designed for the quarter mile race track (straight line racing) as it really can limit how much you lean the bike on right-hand turns! The baffle is removable which can really help to enhance that incredible sound! Thanks for checking her out!

      barebonerides quick question why does it limit how much you lean on the right hand turns?

    • @barebonerides
      @barebonerides  7 років тому

      The side-winder pipe really decreases the ground clearance on the bike (especially the right side). So any sharp right turns could be a problem - you definitely will not be able to drag a knee on the right side but, then again, the makers of the pipe assumed their headers would end-up on 1/4 mile drag bikes!

      Hey Christina, thank you for checking out this project. Our customer brought us this bike with the stretched swingarm already installed. It is quite a stretch - likely around 6-7 inches but, we are not positive. Once in a while, good/used/stretched swingarms do come up on ebay but, not very often for these old-school bikes. Just be a bit careful if you are considering a used one as there are many out there that appear to have some "sketchy" (home-made) welding that may not be very safe. Good luck on your search!
