The job doesn’t look too bad, definitely needs time and I’ve also bought the revised mk3.5 heater matrix so I will install that soon on my mk3 when it arrives
Got to change one on a sales car , i must admit even after watching your helpful video i am still not looking forward to doing the job. How long did it take? I guess the book time is tight. I will try to allocate a day or so.
Thanks for the positive comments 👍🏻 not quite a how too but was just my experience really, think book time is 6/8 hours well autodata anyway it took me about a day and a half but I was pulled off of it a couple of times to do mot's it's not too bad a job, just make notes and take pictures only advice I can give good luck 👍🏻
Hello! Is removal of the HVAC as simple as disconnecting the heater hoses and refrigerant lines at the firewall? I have the dash fully disassembled but unsure how the unit itself is held in. Coolant and refrigerant have both been drained/discharged
Great video mate. I am in the process of removing my dash; the same matrix leaking problem. This video has been really helpful. Where did you get the new matrix from? Is it from Ford? Thanks.
Thanks for the positive feedback cheers, didn't do it as a how too but just a quick overview of my experience but I'm glad it's helped as there was bits I was stuck on. Yes a genuine Ford one was used and typically its been updated. I hope you get yours done and sorted soon good luck 👍🏻
@@gaz3359 Sorry to pester you. :( I have got everything removed, wire harness, bolts, steering column etc. But long bolts keep catching on the bottom tube of the frame, like they are not out fully. I don't want to remove the doors, does undoing the black strap allow you to move the door open enough to clear the holes; I know the bolts stay in.
Yes if. You un do the check strap on the door (black strap) it will give you just enough movement to get the bolts clear of the frame but still in place to get the frame out.
FORD must really despise it's customers to place this heater core all locked up under the dash in that dang black box. They knew and were hoping to make a lot of money off of customers who have to pay hundreds of dollars to have this fixed. It down right ridiculous having to remove so much crap just to get to and replace the heater core.

Now currently doing this, and your video was a great help, how long did it take in total in the end? Coz 6hr book time seems a bit of a joke lol
Think it took me roughly about 8/10 over 2 days but I remember I was pulled off the job a couple times

Yes once you have the dash brace bar out the whole heater box comes out.
Great video thanks 👍
