    So it looks like for the full set I need to buy the 8 color set you have linked and then buy sepia and Marron brown. Am I forgetting any other colors you use?

    speaking from experience, artist acrylic inks are not good for this technique in most cases, they're way too heavily pigmented. Maybe if they were more heavily dilluted they'd work better. White Ink is pretty good though.

    From experience, I wouldn't honestly recommend that people use their nice expensive brushes like the W&N Series 7's for this technique unless they are older brushes and have lost their tip. No matter how hard you try inks (and shades and glazes) will always find their way up into the ferrule even if you are carefully causing the brush to split. As you mentioned a citadel shade brush is a good alternative as they come with relatively sharp points alternatively picking up a set of cheap brushes that can be easily replaced isn't a bad shout.

    Hi. great summary and a good alternative to GW contrast paints. When you use the inks, are you thinning them down at all? If so, with what product?

    • @TheMiniJunkie
      @TheMiniJunkie  4 роки тому +1

      Nope - if I ever thin ink (which is almost never) I just use water. But mostly I use it out of the bottle.

      @@TheMiniJunkie thanks. Question for you. If you were to spend your hard earned loonies on some contrast paints, which ones would be your go to ones? I need to paint a bunch of HATE figures. Lots of fur, straps, flesh and weapons. I have some inks like sepia, umber, burnt Siena, red earth, ochre.

    Great vid man. Something to help with those large areas and even a little blending action.. Game "Inks" are not "Inks" and are just acrylics, so you can use acrylic extenders to slow down the drying time. Its easy to over use the extenders tho, so just a drop kids.

    Any chance these inks work in an airbrush?

    • @TheMiniJunkie
      @TheMiniJunkie  5 років тому +1

      G1 Blaster they do, but would not create a good shading effect as they need to pool a bit to create shadows.

    I used this on Reaper's Blacktooth Terror from Bones 4, over a gray primer and he looks great. It worked so well on the Nolzer's a T rex I figured it would work on the bigger Reaper dino and it does. He has lots of scales and ridges though.

    Great video man! After watching the Skaven and Folk Raider videos you have, I purchased a set of Vallejo Inks. I haven't speed painted with them yet but I've used them for various other techniques that I wouldn't have had them for before hand- like making washes, glazes, and using them to tie in a wet blended base coat. All sorts of stuff. So thanks for turning me on to these!

    I suspect the contrast paints are made of highly pigmented liquid ink mixed with a proprietary light medium to get the effect of a diluted medium combined with an something that evaporates quickly (alcohol?). I also wonder if they will be purely water based, or if they will require a GW specific thinner.
    New Bones models are light grey instead of white, and despite what they say, I'd still prime them.

    • @alcovitch

    This video was definitely helpful and I'm really interested to try this style out. I have a giant truck load of Harry Potter minis I dread the thought of painting, especially since I'm slow so this will be a great experiment. I was planning on tackling the death eaters first, which is mostly blacks and dark grays. Would you recommend I still start with a white primer?

    • @TheMiniJunkie
      @TheMiniJunkie  5 років тому +1

      Matt Cappelli just depends if you plan to use inks or regular paints. If reg paint you could prime them black.
