Yes!!!!! The long awaited bromance movie between a pair of hands and their german cnc mill!!!
I am sooooooo excited!!!
It always worries me when you only see one hand, is it Jelious of the Maho?.
Im pretty sure the other is doing nefarious things like running underground lathe fights. I've yet to find any information as to what his third hand does while not on screen.
I think you're underestimating how dedicated your fans are when saying only 3 of us are going to watch the video completely! Personally I enjoy longer formats :)
It gives him more watch time when I loop the videos on repeat as I fall asleep, so soothing and relaxing... (I always see them at least once with my eyes open to enjoy them properly don’t worry)
3 of us ? That'll be

I didn't recognize the reference at first. For people who didn't see the movie, it is called "The Green Mile"

My wife *really* loathes Tony for introducing this one to our household.
We need an autopsy on the bearing when you swap it out.
Destruction of the ballnut usually means a displeased spouse.
@@WhereWhatHuh Ouch! I felt that...
As someone who just had surgery on one ballnut, I don't want to see that.
It looked to me like it was the hose rubbing against the ribbed wire protector making that crunchy noise. You can see the wear marks on it too. @5:28.
I don't know if it's just the vid, but the screw mount on the end looks low, ie, not aligned with the others. You can imagine the force on the screw when it gets to the end and that mount isn't inline with the others.
Tony - Incredible that you could do a 48-minute video, all in one breath!
I don't 'do' CNC, or have much understanding of electronic control systems, but I love your presentation style so much that it's a joy to watch you carefully explain the 'intimate details' of these systems.
Also, hats off to you for the beautiful, almost magic lighting through the whole video!

What lighting? I didn’t notice any “lighting”.
Most UA-cam build explain videos make me feel like "I could do that", this series makes me think I definitely could not do that.
Yea, it’s kind of an overview of all the different systems and he connects all of the dots. Trouble is there’s a lot more dots in there if you look at the fine print!

So so true. You think you like a channel until they make longer uploads. TOT passes the 40 minute test
Not only that. But being able to watch it at 1x speed.
Not only that, but watching them on repeat for 40 minutes straight...
I was gonna say another channel I would watch for that long, but I can’t watch any of those videos more than once... I'm a controls engineer. Loop tuning was always explained to me in a very hand wavy way, and the more I read about, learn and try different loops, the more I realize it is all black magic.
The only way to understand it really is to do the maths, I think. Laplace transform all the way. I don't think it's really useful in practice though, I guess, but only then could I really understand it (beyond regular PID (even though PID tuning is still a little black magic))
"The computer tells what the drive to do and the drive tells what the stepper to do."

Tony, can you please do a garage tour one day, we don't care if it's messy we want to see the interesting things 😉.
The problem with that is his shop is endless and is actually in a void giving him the ability to manipulate it at will notice that we can never see a background it's not coincidence or what some heretics would call "camera placement" it's because all that exists is what tony wants to exist.

I have a confession. I've been watching ToT reruns the last few weeks and lovin it. Tons of laughs and some tears. So excited about this new 48 minute video, I'm drinking my diner with the door locked. Kids are banging on the door and the wife is crying, but I don't care.

Damn it Tony. I am a Dentist, and I do recommend that everyone see the whole video. Great work. As always.
For the y-axis ball nut failure, you may want to check the alignment between the screw axis and the ball nut mounting surface. Ballscrews are very sensitive to misalignment and from what I recall you need to have perpendicularity within around .001" to get the maximum life from a precision screw. You'll have to check the manufacturer's documentation for their specs to know for sure.
You may also want to check if your y-axis ball screw bearing support/mounting plate is deflecting under acceleration or cutting loads, as that may also lead to the same issue. As for the motor fold, I know manufacturers don't recommend that for small screws as the shafts can bend or break, but your components don't fall into that category.
From a dynamic response and accuracy perspective, getting rid of the belt and mounting the servo directly to the screw would be a great call as anything you put between the motor/encoder and the work will increase position/velocity error and decrease rigidity. A stiffer coupling between the motor and the screw may also help in that regard, as would beefing up the standoffs that your servos are currently sitting on to reduce flex, though it might be overkill for your application.
To me, it looks like the flex conduit making the noise.
5:29 looks like the noise is coming from the hoses touching each other ?
Yeah that’s definitely what it sounds like and as kids my brother and I used to run sticks over a similar hose at my dad’s shop and it made the same sound (same as that white hose)
That's some interesting strain relief on those corrugated tubes feeding the servos
That's the new virtual strain relief. It's super easy to install and never fails. Plus it's 100% waterproof. :-)
His day job is making wire coat hangers.
Two 1/4" cables running through a 2" pipe. Obvious.

I had a similar welding experience yesterday. I must preface this by saying that it was late in the day, I was tired and the daylight was dimming. I found this piece of scrap metal that looked like mild steel. Dark grey slag and a little rust from the scrap pile. I cut it, no sparks. That's weird I thought. "let's just get this tacked in before the sun goes down" I said to myself. I start to tack it, It lights up real bright and won't' take a weld. "Enough of this nonsense, I'll deal with this tomorrow." In the light of day, the day after, it turned out to be brass! I never thought that could happen. How did that get into my scrap pile. Live and learn.

hi tony, this oiling system from Vogel we had in the mercedes trucks in the 90s running with thin grease for automatic greasing the truck bearings(except the driveshaft for obvious reasons).this oil distributors have pistons inside raised and filled by the pressure of the pump to an amount controlled by the cap(limiting the travel of the piston inside, codes on the caps tell the amount)).when the pump shuts of the piston releases and drives the amount of oil to the separate oillines.Worked great on our trucks and should also do on the MAHO.Greetings from germany
