- US Army Ranger Brad Paulsen earned a Silver Star for valor as a Humvee turret gunner manning a 50 cal. machine gun during the infamous Battle of Mogadishu in October 1993. The struggle to recover injured and fallen US soldiers after a daring assault was popularized by the movie Black Hawk Down.
Brad Paulsen is a decorated veteran and retired carpenter from northern Illinois. During the podcast he talks in detail about the his part in the Battle of Mogadishu, becoming an Army Ranger and many other life experiences.

The Army certainly learned a lot of lessons that day that likely saved some lives in the wars that followed. I'm sure Mr. Paulsen would have loved to have had one of the gun shields they have in turrets today. Glad he came on and told some of his story.
Did they? Cause in the invasion of iraq there still wasnt armor on hummvs....

This guy's experience reminds me of those tail and belly gunners in WWII bombers. Stuck out there with their asses in the open, feeling so disconnected and far from the rest of their crews, but still doing what they had to do.
This might be the best and most enlightening interview I have seen in my 50 years on this rock. Great stuff!

Even though that day was tragic and mistakes were made, there were lessons learned. My son, who is a combat veteran and Ranger, surely benefited from those lessons.

This is my da if you didn't know. I don't know if he tells us this but, in order to tribute Dominick Pilla my middle name is Dominick! He still is the most courageous, funny, and brave person I know. Jeff really wasn't lying!
My da just told me something brutal about Dominicks death. He saideverything Above his head was missing and his skull wa blown out in half. He said he wa trying not to look back but he looked back and saw his helmet hanging behind, prices of skull and flesh., and blood. Dominicks eyes were looking at him while he was getting draggedboff the Humvee.

That's got to be one of the dumbest most uneducated comments I've ever read on UA-cam.
Considering how the kill to loss ratio was literally around 100 to 1 in favor of the Rangers where exactly do you get they had "the brakes beat off of them"?
Considering that they spent the night literally in the middle of an entire city of people who wanted nothing more than to kill them and chop up their remains in front of the world yet they were never overrun and wiped out how do you get they had "the brakes beaten off of them"?
Considering that the "skinnies" probably expended somewhere in the neighborhood of 100,000 rounds of small arms ammo and approximately 100 RPG rounds resulting in only 19 US servicemen killed where exactly did you come up with them "getting the brakes beat off of them"?
What those guy's went through and survived is epic and in the eyes of military forces around the world is looked at with awe and respect and is used as an example to those militaries as proof of what proper training can do for a fighting force's effectiveness.
Typically when someone regurgitates a comment that stupid about those guy's who fought that hard and survived odds that seemingly impossible that certainly don't deserve to have applied to them it creates anger in me, but in your case I feel pity for you, because it must be a real struggle trying to survive the world with an IQ that low.
Fortunately for you there's plenty of organizations and charities that help the needy.
P.S., sorry about some of the bigger words I used that have undoubtedly confused you, I tried to keep them to a minimum but unfortunately I can't think on that low of a level.
