GGD needs it's own interface, similar to SSD or Superior. That way you can make these frankenkit's through drag and dropping samples, also avoiding the horrendous Kontakt.
GGD doing that interface idea and ditching Kontakt completely would be amazing

I've started to like Kontakt after using it for a while. It's like Steam, except for my plugins. Got a bunch of libraries all in one spot. Got the routing down, so it's not a big deal.
I know talking to a lot of people, when they say they don't like Kontakt, what they really mean is that they don't want to pay for Kontakt. Concerning GGD though, you can still use it with the free version of Kontakt.
@@crummockiphail9720 I think its mostly got to do with the performance and optimisation, maybe im wrong but kontakt always seemed to me to be much more unstable and heavy on the pc resources than other software virtual instruments that i tried which have their own interface and engine, at least from my experience, and for ease of use i have always preferred a vsti with its own interface, it just feels like a less of a hassle.
The interface isn't that terrible, but Native's support is garbage, does it even run on the new M1 Macs ? Superior does run through rosetta flawlessly from what I've seen.

Quick tip: the Guru zebrawood snare in M&M blends with the VP signature snare in the Invasion perfectly, identical pitch (C), same live room, same resonance. Give it a go.

I did this out of necessity after buying a second GGD kit. Modern And Massive REALLY helps with some of the more dynamic parts of songs when using invasion

I'm definitely doing this ASAP. I have my Modern Metal Ezdrummer Kit routed to trigger Invasion so I can use the song creator in Ezdrummer. Now I'm gonna add a frankenkit
Awesome video, I've been doing this for the last year or so and it's been giving me great results
What a dope timing on this one, hasn't been a week since I started to think if my PC could have the horsepower to do this but it seems a lot easier than I initially thought.
HEADS UP EVERYONE: Be wary you'll need a very good spec PC/Mac to do this sort of thing as there will be a tonne of samples to load in and to run each of the interfaces. I currently run a Macbook Pro 16" with a 6-core 2.6 i7 and 32GB RAM and I have seen my Logic Pro X struggle in places with this technique even when using the maximum bus setting in the Logic Pro X preferences, so o hopefully everyone will understand this before using this technique.
If you've got enough horsepower however then definitely do it, all my songs have layered snares and kicks and when Misha first showed this technique on his livestream I jumped on it and it was a complete game changer - Legendary stuff over here with the GGD crew!!
One way to mitigate, if the extra processing is giving grief in a full mix - program all your hits on a single kit so you have the songwriting aspect sorted.
Make your Frankenkit in its own session without any additional processing/instruments so it gets the full brunt of your available processing, and then bounce everything down to wav stems and bring them back into your main mix.

Or you could write with one kit, bounce everything to audio, and then use the TCI files to trigger layered kicks/snares/rooms/whatnot...

Ive just started doing this recently, blending M&M with Invasion, getting great results. Just make sure that you check the phase between the different kits for each element that u are blending
Another favorite thing I do is stacking kicks in the same library. I use two instances of the same library, flip the L/R of kick in the OH in one instance, keep the kick OH level identical, now the kick in the OH is right down the middle instead of tilting to the right. This isn’t useful by any means but feels so nice for my OCD

But will this also mean that if you're using multiple libraries in conjunction with each other, that the room (near and far) samples will also be combined? So let's say I want to use multiple snare sounds from different libraries, can I route them to just one room fader? If I like the room in the halpern more, that I can route a snare from invasion into that room without the rooms combined?

I get that you can use samples from multiple kits at the same time, but can you link them to the same room sound track? Or even the same overhead track?
Like for example if I use cymbals and the kick from the invasion kit and a snare from m&m is it possible to route it on the same room track as if they were in the same room?
If you route them correctly, yes. You have to route all of the overhead tracks to the same output, all of the rooms to another, etc.

Only problem I see combining snare drums is each snare sound has it own fundamental ring that most of us notch out. Each snare has its own annoying ringing sound in a different frequency independent to the other snares layered. So if you send all the snares to a single output in Kontakt they are all now combined making notching that frequency out of each individual snare impossible without notching the other combined snares in the same area that don't need it. If I send all the snares out on different channels in Kontakt to individual channels in logic, then notch them all in the different "problem areas", and bus them together. Will there be phase issues with different eq settings on each channel before they are summed together on a bus?? Old video I know but hopefully someone could help out?

are you able to bypass the Overheads output on the invasion cymbals? Like would I be able to mix an individual cymbal by themselves within the multiout of kontakt or would I have to bounce the cymbals to audio?

Another trick is to use 2 kontakts and flip the stereo image of the other, so you can have for example ride on both sides of the kit, a floor tom on the left and an x-hat with any kit and not just invasion.
Also, always check phase coherency. Kicks in M&M are NOT phase aligned with the rest of GGD kits, so flip the phase if you use M&M kicks, better yet, use a phase alignment plugin
actually the antiphase kick smaples give it a very "focussed tone" if you know what i mean. Really scooped and can sound great with a bit of work.
@@rohanahlawat5809 I know what you mean but this isn’t the case. In this case you lose pretty much all low frequencies.
@@rohanahlawat5809 Nolly did a video on out of phase kick processing, but he did it to scoope out midrange with a different microphone on the same kick. Idk how that would sound with 2 different kickdrums. Never tried it, but you'd have to go about it with a plan of what frequencies you'd want to cancell out. I could imagine just loosing all low end with 2 regular already good sounding kickdrums.
*Raises hand* Hey, Misha/the rest of the GGD crew. I know this is a small thing, but can we get a fully-sampled right hi-hat? For a Travis Orbin-esque cymbal setup. It's odd to pan the second hat to the right, only for the overheads and room to treat it as if it was still on the left.
You could always load an instance of a kit with a hi hat you like, disable everything else, and then flip the stereo outs so it's panned to the right!

Does this work with the One Kit Wonders as well? I loaded up Aggressive Rock and Modern Fusion in the same Kontakt, routed it so they don't overlap each other but seems like only one kit works. Does anyone have a solution to this??

I started doing this a couple of days ago, Me and my drummer like invasion but I found it hard to get the snare to sound really fat so I decided to have the invasion kit with an invasion and modern and massive snare and now it sounds great!

Sorry but this GGD layering ,recommends a tone of processing power from the Mac or PC what have you.

You don't need that much. I have an i7 with 32gb ram and I stack 2 kits in kontakt, plus superior drummer. Everything runs fine with those specs. If you're only using 16gb of ram, that's considered bare minimum now a days for a descent computer in the audio/video world

Any thoughts into why after mapping everything I can still only hear one kit? I've got M&M layered with Invasion but It's still only triggering the M&M kit.
You might not have it set to Omni. Look for an “i” button on the interface of kontakt and you should see an option that’ll let you switch to Omni.

like ill map the kick to C-1 and it will work and then ill clear the map and assign kick to C-1 again and it wont work. at a loss
