  • Many people struggle with hamstring stretches. They are a muscle group that tightens up quickly and depending on your posture can be overworked. One often doesn't realize one has tight hamstrings until movement patterns are affected, or the onset of knee or back pain. Hamstring stretching exercises are a necessary part of training in any sport and are useful in the maintenance of good posture.
Stretching tight hamstrings sometimes seems like a full time job and recurring hamstring injuries are a common source of frustration for many athletes. So why is stretching hamstrings so difficult? It all boils down to our postural habits, the anatomy of the hamstrings, and the way we stretch them.
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is a way of stretching, which involves both the stretching and contracting of the muscle group being targeted. It is said to be one of the most effective forms of stretching for the improvement of our flexibility and range of movement.

I am so happy I found your channel! I just joined it and FB as you have so much info available and so easy to understand and follow. I desperately need to get more flexibility and strength in my muscles so I can perform all the chores I need to do on a daily basis and have become almost impossible lately, and I don't want my animals to suffer from lack of care. Top priority right now will be finding relief from sciatica pain for last 6 mos. with only allows 5 to 10 min. of activity/chores then hours of rest before continuing. Little better since having phys. therapy for past 2 wks, but I can see from your videos, I really need to do some preventive work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us..wish we lived closer, I'd be knocking on your door! ha

Thanks, Dr. Nguyen, these stretches are great, I am in that category of a long sitting office worker, so it is easy to do the standing stretch a few times during my working days...

if you sit for long periods of time it can cause your hamstrings to shorten . definitely give these stretches a go

This is just what I need. Although I do a lot of pilates, my back issues prevent me from having the flexibility and ability to touch my toes which really bothers me. I am going to continue to do these and hopefully help my injury and flexibility.

Thanks doctor for those easy and at-home stretches... and btw is pelvis tilt related to tight hamstrings..? ‘Cause I’ve been suffering with Anterior tilt, which resulted in a awkward body shape , weird walking style and I could not “bend forward and come back to standing position” comfortably and could not lift even smaller weights. Plz help me with this doctor. I would be very much grateful..

For those who are confused how much 30-40% strength is that should be applied on the belt, its about 120N/m approximately so now u dont have to worry about putting wrong strength.
