Hi Lori, just watched this tutorial and love it. I have a serger but don’t think it has any different stitches i.e for the finished edge so guess I will just add normal binding. Great quilt as you go method without having to use joining strips. I have a couple of jelly rolls so can’t wait to try this. Will make for my young granddaughter ❤Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful skills :)

Not using a serger machine, but I am starting this quilt as my first ever quilt. I have been sewing for eons, but not quilting, and couldn't agree with you more about pressing: It make ALL. THE. DIFFERENCE. Thank you so much for your clear, terse, no-nonsense, concise tutorial. You're a wonderful teacher.

Hi Lori. I just discovered your channel through this video. At first I thought, "Naa" and almost passed up on watching it. Then I almost stopped watching it again when you starting using your serger, (because I don't have a serger.) But I kept an open mind and I'm so glad I did because I really like your method! If I had passed on this video I would have missed out on learning a new technique. I am now another new subscriber to your channel! Thanks for posting it. The pink gingham wd have driven me mad, I find that quite often fabric is NOT printed on 100% straight, you have to be very careful when cutting . The more expensive makes are better but you still have to look carefully at the patterns before you cut. Thanks for sharing this idea.

Sandra, when I teach classes, which I have done in person often, I always work in wiggle room or mistake insurance. If things are done to the tee in the measurement chances are in some cases someone will come up short in their pieces. So feel free to adapt your measurements to your specifics. Once my technique is understood running in your own creative direction is encouraged. :)

Thank you...I am visually impaired but still wanted to quilt for those in need...now I can. What is the best batting to use?

Oh I am so glad this has helped you. It always warms my heart to know I can help others with creative education. I used a lite batting for this project “Pellon Wool Cotton Blend Batting”

How big is the quilt made from one jelly roll? Seems like a bed size would require strips longer than 42".Would s bigger quilt require you to cut strips from yardage? I like the technique.

Hi Carol. To create larger strips for larger projects you would need to miter more than one Jelly Roll strip together. I haven't used a complete Jelly Roll just yet. Not sure where we would be size wise if we used one complete Jelly Roll. You can definitely cut your on strips from fabric also if you want to use your favorite fabrics using my technique. Thank for your comment and watching the tutorial :)

I haven't made any quilts yet, I am just watching videos and trying to learn. I am 78 so just want to see how to do quilting. Can you show some other kinds of quilting doing both sides at the same time. Thank you. Interesting, I would be afraid to try this for my fist quilt.

Did you pre- cut your batting 7" wide? Did it get wider as you got to the outside edges. Loved this video. Thanks for inspiration.

Hi Karen, I am getting ready to make available written instructions for the tutorial project. It will be available on my website. loricollab.com I've had so much interest and questions I am getting that up today. Yes the batting strips will get wider width wise but not height wise. Hope that make sense.

Hi Lori! I enjoyed this video, and feel inspired. When using multiple jelly rolls, at some point, the sides will become too long for one strip. Any thoughts about continuing if you was a larger quilt? What is the size of the quilt you did in this video and how many strips did you use? Might you have written directions for this quilt? (I am full of questions!) Hope this finds you and your family safe and happy! Thank you!

Sue Cleek Sue once your strips are not long enough you will need to join more strips together to get the length you need. If you watch my binding video linked in the comments you can see how I join strips together for binding which will be the same process. 😉. I'm not sure how many strips I used over all, I did have some left over from one Jelly Roll. It ended up 28" x 28". This was sized for a class keeping in mind we were short on time so it was all about technique!
