The portraits are more beautiful the longer I view them. At first, they didn't grab me, but when I viewed with the lighting in the gallery, they really come alive, with lighting they really pop out....and I am so happy for these 2 intelligent, articulate, talented people....and for this young lady, after all she has been thru, and for her to have this GREAT dream that she "never even dreamed for herself"...the blessings so deserved from the Universe to her worthy talent, to both of these great artists!. BRAVO to you both!!! :)

Christine asks, "What did you FEEL?" Well, Amy Sherald, who painted Michelle, should have felt EMBARRASSMENT. The likeness stinks, the anatomy is horrible, and the background is stark and uninviting. This is not "impressionism" - this is PORTRAITURE! When is someone going to get real on that horrible Michelle painting out loud?!

Seeing the end product was a joke, and of the two who thought a schlock artist like Wiley who doesn't even complete the paintings he signs was the right choice for a Presidential Portrait.

Eloquent.. Capturing the soul takes depth ... These portraits are far beyond the outer appreance. The energy i got from Michelle 's portrait was a woman of great strength who knows when to stand up fiercely and when to be humble with grace. For Obama's.. I saw in his portrait a man who has endured a lot of lessons regarding "humble". The inner strength is more powerful than the out look. Content with "self" is balancing aura..at peace..while weeding out curves life throws..and staying on top while staying humble. This is conquering without zealous

So poignant that a disaster presidency is portrayed in two equally disastrous paintings. These painting will forever be a proverbial reminder of the 8 years so regrettably played on the American People ... and HOPEFULLY, and with Gods will ... never to be repeated again.
How exciting to see the Obama's use their fame and influence to highlight the artistry of great American talent! It captures so many things, gender, diversity, redefining strength, environmentalism, the ancestry of the family. They are both fearless artists that deserve praise, not condemnation. The hateful comments are shallow, divisive, and we can do better as American. It's okay to be different.
Never mentioned the color of their skin. But yes, now that you mention it, let's talk about Race. A black American is more likely to have had a similar lived experience to the former President and First Lady. This is particularly important when hired to capture a person's character, personality, and other traits critical to the success of a good portrait.
Another example would a woman getting a portrait painted on them by another woman. The female portrait painter has an easier time than a man capturing the subjects womanhood, including if they are both mothers having and tasing kids, if they are both business women, working in an traditionally male dominated environment, or just the simple shared experience of being a woman in society sharing similar perspectives such as how it feels to be a female in the community (Good or bad).
Another example would be a man having his portrait painted by another man. They both share a familiarities with concepts of masculinity, fatherhood, etc.
The same goes for Latinos painting other Latinos, LGBT people painting other LGBT people. People identitys' are composed of multiple supporting identities and this drives their perspective of the world. Some identities we both share include our nationality (I'm American), I am assuming our gender (I'm a cis male), and probably the color of our skin (I'm white). These identities have traditionally been in a place of relative privilege compared to others in our community. I hope you can find a way to acknowledge the step forward we've made as a society with the Obama's choosing to depict themselves so proudly, and perhaps just say you don't like the work for aesthetic reasons.

Newsflash: We never had a healthcare system to begin with. We had a healthcare market. And that overpriced and price-rationed market was opened up to vulnerable citizens, many of whom are in the red states and erroneously always vote Republican. Obama gave people affordable healthcare. If the market is raising rates, then it is because of political instability from the Republicans who can't make up their mind on wether they want to limit or cancel Obamacare altogether. And since the healthcare market has to have a backup plan to still maintain profits, they have to raise rates to compensate for any and all Republican mismanagement or defending pf Obamacare.
